EQ:• How do letters help us create words that will give us a message?• Would you like to know how to put letters together? What

words do you know?• Where have you seen words in school, at home, in the store, on

the way to the store, in books and magazines?

• It is the instructor’s desire that students begin their educational experience recognizing the letters in their names as well as other alphabet concepts. We will build on prior knowledge from home, preschool, community connections and family events.

What is the topic/process/activity you want your learners to learn?

Page 3: Design project

Who are your learners?

• 5 and 6 year old Kindergarten students

Page 4: Design project

What are the learning objectives for the topic/process?

Students will:• present a bagged item brought from home that relates to an alphabet letter/sound

that was introduced and highlighted during the beginning of the week.• create a verbal/visual presentation of the clues to their object• listen to three spoken clues and following appropriate wait time will offer a guess as to

what is in the share bag if called on by the speaker. The hidden item will be displayed upon receiving the correct response from a peer. If no correct response is given, the child will hold up the item for all to view.

Web tools utilized include Spell With Flickr, Wilispaces, Google Images, Discovery Education Clip Art, Vocaroo and the additional software, Activinspire.

What is the assessment methods I will use to confirm that learning has taken place?

• A checklist will identify students that were able to create three written and verbal clues to describe the hidden item they brought from home. They will then select pictures to illustrate the clues and verbally list the clues for the benefit of their classmates, who will hopefully respond with an educated guess that fits the clues.

• We will assess how students are progressing by listening to their responses and determining if they have answers that match one or more of the clues. If they are giving an incorrect response (the letter/sound is not a match) then we know we need to work on some interventions to teach letters/ sounds.

What is your instructional activity to achieve the learning objective and what learning theories are you utilizing?

• Distributed practice – spreading study time over several occasions – weekly share bags

• Bloom’s – creating and understanding• Knowles – using other forms of assessment• Bandura – modeling• Vygotsky – scaffolding (specific guidelines for accomplishing the task• Skinner – Operant Conditioning (student bringing clues & share bags art rewarded

by creating on the Wiki)

What type of learning technology could be suited to support learning for each learning objective?

• Students will be using technology tools with the aid of a teacher

The tools include • Spell with Flickr• Wikispaces• Google Images• Discovery Education Clip Art• Vocaroo • software from Activinspire.
