This vertical hyper-mall on the Las Vegas Strip uses the formal device of the spiral to create endless space for exchange around a celebratory void. The project is simultaneously a critique of the density driven sprawl-as-mall typology, as well as a satire of the perpetual consumerism that has become a trademark of American society.

The Highline-7 Train connection was conceptualized as a hybrid infrastructural park that combined the characteristics of the Highline Park and New York subway. This vertical parc de la villette becomes a new infrastructure which employs circulatory paths of varying speeds and spaces of varying programmatic specificity, to bring pedestrains from the slow-paced, green space of the Highline down to the high-speed, loosely programmed space of the subway.

  • The Mall is a unique entity and destination in American culture. The Mall itself is an enticing object in which people instinctively embark on a journey to reach. This behavior can be classified as an architectural phenomenon in which Mall becomes ritual. The behavior in which Americans flock to the Mall can be categorized as ritualistic. Going to the Mall is a social norm among Americans: Everybody does it, and Nobody can deny it. Thus the fact that Americans do flock to the Mall under predictable social circumstances and regardless of distance can lead us to conclude that traveling to the Mall is Ritualistic and the Journey that is made is a Pilgrimage.

This project was conceptualized as two blocks, the private vertical dormitory tower, and the public student commons block, which collides with one another, and are connected with a draped screen. As a result of this collision, the programmatic blocks deform to create pockets of communal space that exist within the screen. These pockets created through variation in section enable passersby to see into communal spaces and encourage interaction.

San Miniatos original theater was destroyed during WW2, however, it was never rebuilt and its site left empty. Instead, performances now take place within the towns piazzas, in which existing infrastructure such as stairways are adapted as stage and seating. This project not only explores the evolution of formal theater, but challenges what theater is within an urban context. It investigates the informal theater condition by employing the typical italian piazza as a model for urban theater, submerging the user within two folding brick surfaces which create a variety of display and performance spaces.
