DESIGN OF A GPRS/GSM-BASED MOBILE PATIENT-CARE SYSTEM

IEEE - 2011

AIM: 

This paper presents the design and implementation of a patient information real-time

feedback and monitoring system with wireless network communications based on GSM/GPRS,

Medical institutions as the information processing terminal and Server/client structure as the

mode of information exchange within the medical institutions.

PURPOSE:

With the problem of global population aging increasing, lack of medical hardware,

inadequate patient monitoring system performance and other related issues have become

increasingly prominent.

This project consists of wireless communication for communication with the patient and

the medical institutions. The different blocks of the medical institutions are communicated with

the Zigbee technology. The project is divided into three parts.

The main part is the medical institution unit, which acts as an Information processing

unit. Individual patient is equipped with a system called as patient care system. The information

of the patient like temperature and the pulse rate are measured by the microcontroller used in this

section. Location information of the person is tracked using the GPS module. The information of 

mobile patient is transmitted to the medical institution by using the GSM module in the short

message format.

The medical institution section consists of the microcontroller with the ZIGBEE and

GSM module. The GSM module in this section receives the short messages transmitted from

each of the patient. The location information and parameter information is transmitted to the

server or client section using the wireless Zigbee technology of IEEE standard IEEE 802.15.4

with a frequency of 2.4Ghz.

The location of that patient is displayed on the PC. The information of the patient is

stored in the memory. The mobile parent care system using GSM/GPRS is effective than the

existing system.

TECHNOLOGY:

ZIGBEE:

Zigbee is new wireless technology guided by IEEE 802.15.4 Personal Area Network 

standard. It is primarily designed for the wide range controlling applications and to replace the

existing non-standard technologies. It currently operates in 868 MHz band at a data rate of 

20Kbps in Europe, 914MHz band at 40kbps in USA, and the 2.4GHz ISM bands Worldwide at amaximum data-rate of 250kbps. It is used to verify whether user’s truncation is possible or not.

One of the main advantages of this ZIGBEE communication is that it provides a noise free

communication, the amount of noise added in this type of communication is very less compared

to the other wireless communications.

RESULT:

This system is easy to reuse, good internal information exchange using the wireless

communication technologies.
