Re: Book Lists For the Academic Year 2021/2022
Dear Parents,
The book lists for the coming school year for all sections are now available on our school website
under: https://www.esffm.org/en/secondarv/booklists . You are kindly asked to purchase the booksas listed (specific to dass and language section) for the academic year 2021/2022.
The lists for Languages 2, 3 and 4 can be found under Foreign Languages".
With regard to the use of a calculator in years S3-S7, as well as with regard to the use of a deviceallowing GeoGebra Suite Software or GeoGebra 6 Software (years S5-S6), please note the following(Memorandum Ref.: 2021-04-M-6-en, also uploaded on the website):
1/ In accordance with the arrangements for acquisition of the technological tool with thecharacteristics required by the mathematics and physics syllabuses, as defined in documents 2010-D-242-en-3 and the annexes thereto, ap roved by the Board of Governors, and 2020-01-0-76, approvedby the Joint Teaching Committee, and following an analysis of develo ments in the hardware andSoftware available, the group of experts charged with choosing the technological tool, whichconvened remotely on 23 April 2021, recommends the following: 2021-04-M-6-en2/7
• To accompany the mathematics and physics syllabuses for year s4 of the European Schools,for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September 2021, a non-graphing and non-
programmable scientific calculator (the mode used in s3, where applicable, is sufficient).
To accompany the mathematics and physics syllabuses for year s5 and the new mathematics
and physics syllabuses for yearsS ofthe European Schools (entering into force in September2021) for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September 2021:
a device allowing GeoGebra Suite Software or GeoGebra 6 Software to be used in theclassroom and in the second semester examinations, at least in offline mode (seecharacteristics ofthe device below);
a non-graphing and non-programmable scientific calculator for the first semesterexaminations of the 2020-2021 school year (the mode used in s4, where applicable, may be
sufficient).
From feedback on experience of implementation ofthe recommendations for the 2020-2021 schoolyear and detailed analysis ofthe hardware and Software available, the group of experts charged withchoosing the technological tool recommends avoiding the Chrome OS and Linux OS, in its differentdistributions, for the following reasons:
for those operating Systems, examination mode is neither available nor announced;
no develo ment of GeoGebra Suite Software, the Version adopted for the long term, is
ptannedfor the time being.
It should be noted, however, that:
for devices using the Linux OS, the 'Installation of Windows Software via a dual boot enables
this problem to be resolved;
for devices using the Chrome OS, an in-house solution might easily befound.
• To accompany the mathematics syllabuses for year s7 of the European Schools, for the 2021-2022 school year beginning in September 2021, Tl-Nspire CAS Software:
in Version 4.5.4.48 for students equipped with the Tl-Nspire CX CAS calculator;
in version 5.3.0.564 or higher for students equipped with the Tl-Nspire CX ll-T CAS
calculator
Minimum recommendations for devices running GeoGebra Suite or GeoGebra 6 in the classroom /
examination room:
GeoGebra Suite or GeoGebra 6 can run on several devices (tablet or laptop) online or offline. Thegroup of experts does not specify a model. However, the group recommends at least the following, foradequate use of GeoGebra Suite or GeoGebra 6 (these are minimum specifications, but the choice of
more powerful devices would allow for more diverse and in-depth uses):
Operating System: any operating System supporting GeoGebra Suite or GeoGebra 6 (complete
name in EN: GeoGebra Classic 6)Minimum RAM: 1 GB for a tablet and 4 GB for a laptopMinimum storage: 16 GB for a tablet and 32 GB for a laptop
• Screen size and resolution: 7" can be allowed rovided there is a good display resolution(minimum 720 p), but at least 9" for comfortable iewing with minimum 1080 p. resolution.
As operating System, Win 10 and Mac OS seem to work reliable at the moment, however furtherGeogebra versions are planned to allow for alternative operating Systems.
For educational reasons, we recommend purchasing a convertible: members of the relevant workinggroup recommend for example the Surface Go 2 with 8GB RAM including keyboard and pen.
Please note that this device is one of many that meets the above requirements. We strongly do NOT
recommend this de ice as the only solution.
For pupils with mother tongue tuition different from their language section, please find the followingbook lists: „SWALS, LI (students without a language section) and „German/English Section, differentMT(SWALS)".
In certain subjects and year groups it is not yet possible to give details of the titles required. In suchcases individual subject teachers will indicate the titles in September, or during the course of the
school year.
Teachers for Music and Sports will let you know in a separate letter, which books and/or materials, if
any, they would like to use.
The titles listed can be acquired either via a local book shop (recommended for all German titles) orthrough an on-line provider of your choice.
Should you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Eirini Pantazi (tel.069/ 92 88 74-13, email: [email protected]).
Kind regards,
Minna Laatu
