DEPARTMENT OF NUCLEAR ENGINEERING
MissionThe Nuclear Engineering faculty and staff are dedicated to theadvancement of learning through inter-disciplinary teachingand research, to produce graduates who form a superlativecadre of nuclear engineers to meet the needs of the UAEindustry and society.
ProgramsNuclear Engineering Minor in BSc Engineering ProgramsThe Minor in Nuclear Engineering is designed to provideundergraduate students from other appropriate engineeringprograms (mechanical, electrical, chemical etc.) with thefundamentals of nuclear physics and engineering theory andpractice, necessary to equip them with a sound understandingof the nuclear engineering that underpins a nuclear energyprogram.MSc in Nuclear EngineeringThe M.Sc. in Nuclear Engineering program was established tosupport the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy program. Educationin Nuclear Engineering is of paramount importance for thesafe construction, operation, maintenance and eventualdecommissioning of nuclear reactors.PhD in Engineering (Nuclear Concentration)The PhD in Engineering is designed to provide students withadvanced research level capability and interdisciplinary skills. It has a common format across the main engineeringspecializations within the university while allowing thestudents to focus on their chosen concentration. Areas ofnuclear specialization are as stated for the MSc.

Key Stakeholders
The NTC’s mission is to conduct research in the main thematicareas of nuclear technology necessary to provide a riskinformed decision basis for the safe operation of the nuclearpower plants, while estimating the consequences should faultsoccur. Our research in the main thematic areas of: Theme-1:Nuclear Safety and Systems, Theme-2: Nuclear Materials andChemistry and Theme-3: Radiation Safety in the Environmentwill provide data for informed decision while innovation inmethodology and practices will aim to minimize the faults risks.
With Stakeholders
A major focus of our group is the development of robust methodologies to predict thermal hydraulicphenomena in single component and integral nuclear power plant systems to minimize the risks of faults. Ourtools lead the way for more detailed design optimization approach to enhance the safety and the economicefficiency of nuclear power plants with the nuclear sector stakeholders’ research priorities in mind.

Reactor Design and Analysis Group
Major research interests of our group center on the integrity of structural materials in Nuclear Power Plants andfacilities. By aging, all structural materials in NPPs suffer from various degradation phenomena such as; corrosionand stress corrosion cracking in reactor coolant conditions and external conditions. Since such materialdegradation could affect the safe operation of NPPs, it is very important to identify possible degradationmechanisms for components and structures, to investigate their kinetics, and to evaluate their consequences.

Nuclear Materials Science Group
Nuclear Environment and Waste Management is a branch of nuclear engineering/science concerned with theapplication of interaction between the Nuclear Engineering, science and environment technology. The researchareas of our group includes environmental radiation monitoring, environmental impact assessment aroundnuclear facilities, fuel cycle policy, spent fuel management, radioactive waste treatment/disposal technology, performance assessment of waste disposal sites and so forth.
