DENR identifies landslide-, flood-prone areas in CALABARZON
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has identified 59 areas inCALABARZON to be highly prone to landslides, and 57 more areas to be highly susceptible toflooding.DENR-CALABARZON Executive Director Reynulfo A. Juan said the areas found to be prone tolandslides in Cavite province based on geohazard assessment made by the Mines andGeosciences Bureau (MGB) include Tagaytay City and the municipalities of Maragondon,Ternate,Silang,Alfonso, and Corregidor in Cavite; and Calamba City, Los Baos, Alaminos,Rizal, Nagcarlan, Majayjay, Famy, Mabitac, Sta. Maria, Siniloan, Kalayaan, Cavinti and Paete inthe province of Laguna.In Batangas, the critical areas are Laurel, Mataas na Kahoy, Cuenca, Lipa City, Tuy, Calaca,Mabini, San Juan, and Rosario; and in Rizal province -- Antipolo City, Taytay, Rodriguez, SanMateo, Angono, Binangonan, Cardona, Morong, Baras, Majayjay, Tanay, Pililia and Jalajala;and in Quezon -- Gen. Nakar, Infanta, Real, Mauban, Panukalan, Burdeos, Pagbilao, Atimonan,Lopez, Buenavista, Mulanay, San Andres, San Fransisco, Tagkauayan, Sampaloc, Dolores,Tayabas, Lucban and Gen. Luna.Areas found to highly susceptible to flooding, on the other hand, include the municipalities ofKawit, Noveleta and Cavite City in Cavite province; Mabitac, Santa Maria, Famy, Siniloan,Pangil, Pakil, Paete, Kalayaan, Lumban, Cavinti, and Santa Cruz in the province of Laguna;Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Tuy, Balayan, Calaca, Lemery, Taal, San Luis, Bauan, San Pascual,Batangas, Lobo, Laurel, Talisay and Tanauan in Batangas province;San Mateo, Cainta,

Taytay, Angono, Binangonan, Cardona, Morong, Baras, Tanay, and Antipolo, in Rizal; and inQuezon province -- Infanta, Real, Mauban, Pagbilao, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, Macalelon,Catanauan, Mulanay, Buenavista, Lopez, Guinayangan, Tagkawayan, Calauag, Polilio,Burdeos and Lucena City.Juan reiterated the call of DENR Secretary Ramon J. P. Paje on local officials to revisit thegeohazard maps provided by the MGB in order for them to plan ahead of time on measures tomitigate the impact of calamities, urging them to involve their constituents in their planningsessions to get their full support.
