These cases were reported at Asarwa Civil Hospital and private hospitals in Paldi, Gandhinagar, Thaltej, Vastrapur, Gurukul, SG Highway and Bopal. Civil Hospital alone admitted seven dengue patients. In just 12 days in September this year, Civil Hospital has recorded a staggering 119 cases and one death. In September last year, there were just 36 patients. Last month, a 10yearold St Xavier's student had also succumbed to the dengue sting. Senior consultant physician Dr Manoj Vithlani said: “In some cases dengue patients get redness in the palms, feet and face. There is no itch but rashes remain even after the fever abates.“ Civil Hospital medical superintendent Dr M M Prabhakar said: “We have got patients with boils on their arms and legs. Patients initially tend to overlook them as mosquito bites, but these are actually symptoms of viral infection and need to be treated promptly.“ There was a sixfold increase in dengue cases in the city in August this year as compared to 2014. In August this year, 176 dengue cases were reported as compared to 28 in the same month last year. Civil Hospital in Asarwa alone treated 120 dengue cases this August as against 18 cases in the correponding period of 2014. 15 contract conjunctivitis As if dengue and swine flu were not enough, Asarwa Civil Hospital and Shardaben Hospital have also reported 15 conjunctivitis cases in past two days. Patients suffering from lower respiratory tract infections and viral gastroenteritis are also on the rise. Both the hospitals have registered 37 cases of lower respiratory tract infections and viral gastroenteritis thisseason. TNN Saraspur resident tests H1N1 positive A 45yearold Saraspur resident tested positive for the deadly H1N1 influenza in Asarwa Civil Hospital on Sunday even as five swine flu suspects were reported from AMCrun LG Hospital. So far, three people have succumbed to H1N1 influenza virus in the city this season. This has mounted the total number of swine flu cases to a staggering 2,289 and 132 deaths since January 1 this year. Generally, low temperatures aid the growth of H1N1 virus and rain does not allow the virus to ebb. Since July, 27 people have died of H1N1 in Gujarat, of which Surat alone accounts for 17 deaths.
