What will you leave behind when you leave this world? Life is all about changing and here at Demur we havetaken it into our hands to plaster metamorphosis as our theme this month.

ART COLLECTIVE
The dynamic craft of African cloths such as,Kente and Ankara, art and culture has be-come trendy and inspirational, also a source forthe Western Fashion Designers. African fashion
has been diverse in creativity, for example the useof patterns and designs in tribal wear, and floralprint. African art is amazing because it has its
colourful patterns and symbolic meanings whichmakes it more than just art. According to Dr. KwesiYankah, Professor of Linguistics at the University
of Ghana, “they are used not just to praise political heroes, to commemorate historical events, and to assert social identities, but also as a form
of rhetoric--a channel for the silent projection of ar-gument” he says. African patterns and prints influ-ences can be seen in the latest spring collections:maxi dresses, leggings, jumpsuits, skirts, purses, bags, wedges, jewellery. You can see many trend
setting celebrities embracing the traditional African wear. Trend setters such as
Gwen Stefani, Solange and Rihanna seem to pro-mote the art and creativity of Africa. The tribal in-
fluence can be used on any product, such ashouse hold materials, the art is beautiful becauseit can transform from one culture to another, not
only does it look and feel good but you stand out.You can simply purchase material from any African
clothing market and make any design of yourchoice whether it be a, wedding dress or a more
complex style, shoes, trainers, hat, scarf’s let yourcreativity shape your cloth – Debby Osami.

The H&MSaga
We absolutely love anything fromH&M , stylish and affordable two
words we literally live by. When weheard they were launching a new
store chain we were over the moonand sources confirm the store willbe called ‘& Other Stories’. H&M’spress office confirmed through a
Dutch Newspaper “We see the newchain as a complement to H&M. It
will be at a slightly higher pricebracket and with a little better quality, but still stay within the
framework of our business concept- fashion and quality at the best
price.” Well we are counting downalready.
‘Who is Next?’ No matter how much we try andhide from it Facebook is power-ful interaction tool After receiv-ing311 “LIKES” on Facebook forher collection Elias Moussa wascrowned the competition winnerfor “Who is Next?” a competitionfor young and upcoming designers held in France.Eliasis currently a student at IFAParis.

feminine side as he is often seenat the end of his shows in a skirt.Marc Jacobs is taking it one step
further by bringing out a cos-metic/make up line. Although
nothing is set in stone, talks havealready started between him and
the cosmetic store Sephora.

The much-loved Ritzy cinema in South London marks its 101st birthdaythis month and we visited the creative hub to find out what it is all about.
The theatrical attraction is located at the heart of 21st century culture - Brixton. The cin-ema is surrounded by crafty markets, creatives, musicians and aspiring artists, it is SouthLondon’s oldest cinema and one of the longest running theatres in the country.Ritzy first opened its doors in March 1911 titled the Electric Pavilion and commissionedby then cinema-chain owner Israel Davis. Initially it was looked down upon, as a cheapbasement alternative to more upmarket venues, but ironically, what makes the Ritzy sounique today, is its history. It has managed to outlive all but its most resilient contempo-raries, as in periods of crisis most of London's cinemas fell victim to wartime bombing orrecession. But the Ritzy remained.Today we know it as a ‘Little Bit Ritzy’ - a popular art-house with a distinctive identity.Since 2003, it has been part of the independent cinema chain Picturehouses along withits sister company Picture House in Clapham. Both cinemas are renowned for theirscreening of exclusive blockbusters and independent films despite being juggled throughvarious companies over the years. The Ritzy cinema makes something of a change from regular multiplexes, because notonly is it cheap, but it also provides nice, conformable seating, a great selection ofmovies and mouthwatering food. It even has a quirky, sociable bar. There is also a small café on the fourth floor, perfect for hanging out with friends, listen-ing to jazz and drinking coffee.Dedicated fashion followers would be jealous as this particular evening's screeningtells the story of influential fashion designer Ozwald Boateng. The behind the scenesdocumentary was titled: A Man's story.Boateng is one of the fashion world’s most influential menswear designers. At the ageof 23, he became the youngest designer, and first black male to open a shop on therenowned Savile Row.
www.demuronline.com 14
The film spans 12 years - starting in 1998, which was a “really tough year” for Boateng. Amid the stress of designing he faced a divorce, and a disappointing 1999 collection. His Savile Row offices were also burgled, and his collection went missing. The documentary also follows the momentous stages of Boateng’s life, including his appointment as Givenchy’s creative director, and the moment he was awarded an OBE for services to the clothing industry.Ritzy provides a great atmosphere, full of bright colours, potted plants, and lovely, livelypeople. Monday nights are the cheapest with tickets ranging from £6 onwards insteadof the usual £10. Tickets can be booked online, which can help to avoid lengthy queueson the night itself. It is also worth nothing that the ritzy rarely screens ongoing productions so it is worthvisiting the venue’s website beforehand to find out what is going on and what is beingscreened.Overall, a really nice period cinema with a laid-back vibe. The Ritzy adds well to thecultural attractions in Brixton and is well-worth popping into just to see if anything'sgoing on! One not to miss. - Emma Munbodh

Loewe´s hashtag
Loewe is a well known brand that represents the very best of Spanish luxury specializing in leather goods, ready-to-wear, accessories and perfumes. Established in 1846, in1996 the company joined LVMH, the world´s leading luxury goods group, which already works
with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Mac Jacobs, Hublot or Möet&Chandon. In an attempt to approach to youngsters,Loewe have approached their latest cam-
paign differently byincluding funky young people who cer-
tainly do not match with the typical marketassociated with this brand and its targeted
audience of affluent socialites. This unexpected twist
created so much buzz it has the brand atrending topic on Twitter.
Could this be a new way of market-ing on social networks? Well without
any news since the bombshell campaign was published we ask
have they achievied their purpose?Well at least everybody is talking
about Loewe and that what’s matterswhen it comes to branding. -Chari

BUSINESS makes sense ...The small detail that speaks volume. Your business card isyour key to many doors it is the thing that most people willremember you with after meeting you, so it should speak
lots about you and your business.
Make it sociable
You may have seen them on many ad-verts or even on other cards. What we
speak of here is QR codes (quick responsecodes) these look like bar codes and are
readable by Smartphones. Seeing as every-one has a Smartphone these days they are be-coming more and more useful as they directly
link to website, email and phone numbers, social networks it helps increases the re-
sponse you get from giving out yourcard and the main important thing is
it saves time of which we are allshort of these days.
Use the space
Although a business card may seemlike a small space to speak about your-
self use the space provided including theback. Think of all you have to say about
your business and try and include it. Whatwould you want the person you are givingyour card to remember. You can use the
back of the card to show examples ofwhat you can do. If they have enough
information on your card they maynot even need to spend so much
time trying to look you up.
Personalise your card
You need them to rememberyou. Make your card standout by giving them a per-sonal touch to each event
you go to. It will make it eas-ier for people to remember
who you are and where theymet you. It could read, "Hi,
you met me at the xyzevent." It's just another wayof helping to jog the memoryof the people who took yourcard, as chances are theyprobably met tons of otherpeople on the same day.
Have FunTurn your card into a handy tool that reflects
your business. Perhaps if you are designer youcan carve out a dress, that will certainly stick insomeone’s memory and show your creativity.
