Demo of WeatherMan WeatherMan is a system in production by PIs to assist in preparing content for the hearing impaired. PIs can embed multiple videos in a PDF file and define a set of master control systems for them so that the videos stay synchronized. Two videos will be embedded. One video is a regular screen recording of a lecture. The second one is to be created with the same technique that is used by weathermen. A qualified interpreter (for example someone who is proficient in both American Sign Language, ASL, and mathematics) will stand in front of a green screen in a media lab, point to the main video, and sign the original lecture. The performance will be captured and embedded in the PDF file alongside the first one. In contrast, a typical video prepared for the deaf has the interpreter in a corner subset window detached from access to the lecture screen. Here a generic video is embedded twice to show the synchronization and the action of custom control buttons. The usual video player buttons are defined but in a way as to control both videos. The next step in this project will be to combine WeatherMan with SUB T E X, PIs’ subtiling system. Credits: First Video: Bruno Kammerl, LINK.
