Delta To Intr oduce Automated Fare Col lection In State-owned The transformation vision of the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan administration in the stat e transport sector is set to recor d additional feat as the st ate government has opened discussions with two foreign firms f or the introduction of Automat ed Fare Col lection (AFC ) in the state-owned commer cial b uses. The firms ar e TAPT OPAY Automatic Fare Collection i n Hong Kong and the Management of Kigali Bus Services Limit ed, Kigali, Rwanda.  Addressing journali sts shortly af ter a closed door m eeting with represent atives of the f irms in  Asaba, t he stat e Commissioner f or Transpor t, Hon. Benson Igbakpa, said that given the advantages and imperatives of the AFC in el iminating corruption in the transpor t syst em, t he state government was ready to adopt it in its transport syst em. He, however, noted that given the peculi ar nature of t he state tr ansport syst em which he said is being op erated based on Publ ic/Private Partnership (PPP ), st akeholders i n the transport system must be consulted and carried along in the new system. “I have contacted our key operators in the state transport sect or because in Del ta State, we operate our buses based on P ublic, Pri vate Partnership. We need to bring them into the scheme and as soon as that is done, we wi ll ki ck off ,” I gbakpa said. The Busin ess Development Manager, TAPT OPAY Automatic Fare Collection, Hong K ong, Mr . Brendan Maguire, who spoke alongside the Executive Chairman, Kigali Bus Services, Kigali, Mr. Charles Ngarambe, said they are ready to partner the state government in its drive to transf orm the state transport sector. The du o i n their sep arate remar ks, commended the state government for its landmark achievements in the stat e transport sect or, with particular emphasis on the A saba International  Airport as well as the procur ements of big Macopolo buses for commer cial purpose.  According to t hem, the AFC, when f ully operational in the st ate t ransport sector, would , among other things, help in the elimination of corruption, address the challenge of arbitrary fare charges, as well as help the state government in planning processes. “With this, everything wi ll be transparent for the state government , the commuter s and the bus operators,” they said, adding that the system will also ai d the cashless economy of the Federal government in the state. The AF C, according to them is a form of credit card which, without the elements of a machine or electricity to function, makes use of a contact lens inbuilt in the smart card.

The transformation vision of the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan administration in the state transportsector is set to record additional feat as the state government has opened discussions with twoforeign firms for the introduction of Automated Fare Collection (AFC) in the state-ownedcommercial buses.

The firms are TAPTOPAY Automatic Fare Collection in Hong Kong and the Management of 

Kigali Bus Services Limited, Kigali, Rwanda.

 Addressing journalists shortly after a closed door meeting with representatives of the firms in Asaba, the state Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Benson Igbakpa, said that given theadvantages and imperatives of the AFC in eliminating corruption in the transport system, thestate government was ready to adopt it in its transport system.

He, however, noted that given the peculiar nature of the state transport system which he said isbeing operated based on Public/Private Partnership (PPP), stakeholders in the transport systemmust be consulted and carried along in the new system.
