DELGEME NEWSLETTER

Welcome to this first edition of a new mode of communi-

cation that DELGEME is initiating in order to better reach

out to its constituency and other stakeholders.

As you know, DELGEME is in its second year of imple-

mentation and is reaching a stage of maturity that re-

quires increased communication on the numerous on-

going activities. This newsletter will be one of the vec-

tors of the information that you all expect. We will thrive

to ensure the regular publication and distribution of

upcoming editions. We welcome your comments,

wishes and expectations regarding the content, which

our Communication team will take into account for con-

tinued improvement.

The Developing Excellence in Leadership and Genetics Training

for Malaria Elimination in sub-Saharan Africa (DELGEME) held its

launch events on Thursdays, August 18th, 2016 in Bamako, in

Mali.

This program aims at training young scientists of Plasmodium

Diversity Network Africa (PDNA) countries but also scientists

from the National Malaria Control Programs. During the next five

years the objective will be to train at least (90) ninety scientists

in different relevant areas of expertise.

Dr Alia Benkhala, Pasteur Institute Tunis,

visits DELGEME offices

This visit is part of our collaboration with Dr Benkhala’s

Laboratory of BioInformatics, bioMathematics and bioSta-

tistics (BIMS) Institute Pasteur of Tunis.

On April 11, 2017, Dr. Benkhala a member of DELGEME

Scientific and Training Advisory Board (STAB) visited

DELGEME offices in Bamako. She was met with the pro-

gram Director, the program Manager and a MSc student.

Discussions evolved around plans for a training visit by the

MSc student Miss Assétou Diarra to Dr. Benkhala’s labora-

tory.

As part of strengthening the collaboration links bet-

ween the partners of the DELGEME program, Professor

Alan Christoffels, Director of the National Institute of

Bioinformatics in South Africa, visited DELGEME offices

in Bamako from 19 to 22 April 2017.

He was welcomed by Professor Abdoulaye Djimdé,

Professor Djibril Sangaré, STAF and DELGEME fellows

and students. Professor Alan Christoffels was responding

to an invitation from

The DELGEME program is moving forward and focusing on

the capacity building activities of future PhDs and Post-Doctoral

students. Our first workshop for the development of research pro-

jects for the new PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellows was organized

from May 8 through 13, 2017 in Bamako, Mali at the Hotel Laïco

El Farouk ex Kempeski.

DELGEME PhD students, Post-Doctoral Fellows and Fac-

ulty from different institutions of higher education and

research Institutions from Mali, Gambia, Ghana, Came-

roon, Tanzania, Gabon, Spain and Côte d'Ivoire partici-
