Sports Camps arehappening at DelbartonWelcome to the fifteenth year of Delbarton Sports Camps!We are proudto offer this summertime extension of the successful GreenWave athleticprogram, where young athletes learn the keys to success in sports and intheir personal lives.

Our weekly sports-specific and general sports camps are held on thebeautiful 200 acre Delbarton campus and continue the 73 year traditionof athletic excellence of GreenWave sports. Coaches emphasize thepleasure of playing each sport while developing athletic skills and goodsportsmanship. Our program offers two advantages not usually available insummer sports programs: an outdoor pool and a nutritious buffet lunchprepared by Delbarton School’s Sage Food Service.

TheWhole Day Option: In keeping with Delbarton’s commitment to developingthe whole person, male student/athletes in grades 3-9 who are registered in8:15 Summer Sessions classes are welcome to join the camp when it beginsat 10:00 AM.

Kent MannoCamp Director, Delbarton Sports Camps

Kent Manno has been a member of the Delbarton

faculty and coaching staff for the past 29 years.As

a coach, Kent served as HeadVarsity Swim Coach

for 16 years and Head Freshman Lacrosse Coach

for 10 years. He also coached J.V. soccer for eight

years at Delbarton. During his career as Head

Varsity Swim Coach, Kent was named Coach of theYear three times by the Daily

Record; led the team to 11 Morris County Swimming Championships; the 1999

NHC Championship; the 1999 State Prep School Championship; and won the

State Sectional Championship in 1986. He holds the NSCAA Regional Coaching

Diploma and the NSCAA State Goalkeeping Diploma. Currently, Kent teaches

European History, and serves as the School Librarian and Director of

Transportation.

Swimming Pool:Campers will have the opportunity to use our

fully staffed swimming pool.

Dismissal Procedure:Campers will be dismissed from theAbbot

Brian Clarke Gym at 3:30 p.m. For the security

and safety of the campers, please park inthe lot across from the gym and walkin to pickup your son. In addition, weask that you do not park on the sidesof the roads as this causes a safetyand emergency hazard.

• JV Group - Entering grades 5-7

• Sports Experience - Entering grades 3-8

*Third and fourth-graders may only

participate in Sports Experience.

Facilities:All programs will use Delbarton School

sports facilities, other than Ice Hockey, which

takes place at Aspen Ice Arena.

Camp Rights & Responsibilities:Delbarton Sports Camps have all permits to

operate as required by law.Annual state and

county inspection reports are on file.We

adhere to all requirements for camp, health,

and fire safety.

Transportation:Delbarton does not provide transportation

for the Sports Camps.A list of all students

by town is available on the first day to

facilitate the formation of car pools or

other arrangements.

Sports Camp Information

Medical Information & Treatment:• A doctor’s physical is required to participatein camp.The physical must be done within365 days of starting camp. A complete list ofimmunizations must be provided.

• Our experienced trainers and camp nursewill handle minor injuries. MorristownMemorial Hospital and the Morris MinuteMen First Aid Squad are ready to provideemergency treatment.

Equipment:• Each camper will receive a camp shirt foreach week registered.Additional shirts areavailable for purchase at $10 each.Each camper is expected to wear thecamp shirt every day.

• Each sport has a listing of equipmentto be furnished by participants.

• All personal equipment should have thecamper’s name on it.

The camp is not responsible for lostor stolen items.

Dual Enrollment in Sports Campsand Summer Session:Students may dual enroll in the DelbartonSports Camps and the Summer Session. Boysentering grades four to nine may take oneclass in the summer Session at 8:15 and jointhe camp at the start at 10:00 am.

both forms to the campoffice along with theappropriate camp fee.You will receiveconfirmation by mailof your registration.

The Delbarton football camp is designed to provide instruction and

opportunity for young athletes to develop both fundamental and

advanced football skills. Based on individual experience and skill level,

players will receive basic and advanced training in the most current

techniques and aspects of football training in an environment that will

allow the player to have fun. Emphasis will be placed on passing, receiving,

running back development, line play, blocking, pass and run defense and

special teams play. In addition, 7-on-7 and team “razzle dazzle”

tournament games will be held for camp fun.

Head Coach: Brian Bowers, 9th-year Head Coach at Delbarton, hascoached the offensive line, defensive line, and quarterbacks for the past

thirteen seasons. During this time, the Green

Wave has won eleven Northern Hills Conference

Championships, one state championship;

numerous players attained All-Conference,

All-Area, and All-State recognition and have

gone on to play in prominent college football

programs. Before coming to Delbarton, Bowers

coached college football for five years atWilliams

College (offensive line), the University of

Pennsylvania (offensive line and tight ends), and

the State University of NewYork at Stony Brook

(running backs and wide receivers).

Staff: Coaches and players with professional,college, and high school experience.

Equipment: As a teaching and instructional camp, no footballequipment is required. However, players must bring their own cleats.

Football CampDates: 6/25 – 6/29/2012 &7/23 – 7/27/2012

This camp is designed to enhance the development of the total soccer player. It will

introduce young players to the many dimensions of the game. Emphasis is placed on

individual skill technique, offensive and defensive strategies and team tactics. Players will

learn the skills necessary to dribble, pass, shoot, and defend in match play. Developing the

fundamentals of control shooting, passing, running with the ball, heading, crossing, and ball

control necessary for effective execution is also emphasized. Practice sessions will be

organized using drills, exercises, and scrimmages created to challenge players in their

positions as forwards, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers.

Delbarton Head Coach: David Donovan, DelbartonVarsity Coachsince 1993; career record of 321-67-21; four state championships; five

county championships; thirteen conference titles. Donovan holds the

Premier License from the National Soccer Coaches Association of

America. Recognized multiple seasons as All-Conference and All-Area

Coach of theYear; 2003 recipient of the New

Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association’s

Award of Honor; 2006 inductee into the New

Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of

Fame.

Head Coach: Ken Cherry, Ridge High School,2006-present. NJ Rangers FC – SuperY Coach;

PDL head coach 2008, and 4 years U23 head

coach. 36 years coaching experience and a high school record of over

300 wins, 5 state titles, 3 Morris County titles, 12 conference titles; 1998

Star-Ledger Coach of theYear; NJ Olympic Development coach, and NJ

State staff coach; U.S.S.F. and Scottish F.A. coaching licenses; 20 years

soccer camp director. 2011 inductee into the NJSCA Hall of Fame.

The basketball camp will stress the development of fundamental skills of

individual and team play. Campers will receive instruction in shooting,

ballhandling, passing, rebounding, defense, and team concepts from some

of the finest coaches in the area. Every camper will have an opportunity to

play in games every day. Each camper will participate in fun games such as

free throw contests,“hot shot” contests and ballhandling races that will

enhance not only player development but also enjoyment of the game.

The lacrosse camp is designed to give instruction to young lacrosse playersranging in age and ability. Beginners as well as advanced players are welcome toattend.The philosophy of the camp is to learn the great game of lacrosse fromsome of the best players of the game, while having an enjoyable time.Allcampers will receive the same amount of instruction and play. Fundamentalsand individual skills will be stressed.The objective is to introduce and analyzeskills and provide game experience in a round-robin format.

Our baseball camp is geared to the player who is interested in improving

his baseball skills.Through drill work and demonstration, we will develop

the basics like throwing, fielding, and hitting, and also offer specialty

instruction for the young pitchers and catchers in the group. In addition,

campers will have the opportunity to try out their new skills in various

games and contests.While the focus of the week is on skill development,

we want every camper to enjoy his experience at Delbarton and have fun

playing baseball.

Head Coach: Bruce Shatel is in his fifth year asthe Head Coach of the GreenWave baseball

team.Over the last four years, Shatel has guided

the team to a 93-27 record. In 2008, Delbarton

captured the Morris CountyTournament

Championship In 2009, they won the Non-Public

A North State Sectional Championship. In 2008,

Shatel was named the Daily Record Coach of the

Year. Prior to 2008, Shatel served as Brian

Fleury’s pitching coach for 9 years. Shatel is a

graduate of Deerfield Academy and the

University of Delaware ’94 where he earned his

B.A. in economics. Shatel played for his late

father, Harry Shatel, at Morristown High for

three seasons before leaving to attend Deerfield Academy. His father is

regarded as one of the most respected coaches in New Jersey High

School baseball.

Staff: High school and college coaches, and college athletes.

Equipment: Glove, cleats, baseball hat, baseball pants, sneakers andprotective cup. Catchers should bring their own gear if possible, since

complete sets are limited. Baseball bat is optional.

The hockey camp is designed to enhance the overall skill development of its players.

Implementing a European philosophy, the camp utilizes a number of small ice games and

activities to be played at a high tempo to reinforce individual skills.Through the small

games and activities, each player will enjoy more opportunities to handle, pass, and shoot

the puck. Lastly, the camp will focus on improving each player’s skating proficiency

through over-speed training drills.

Head Coach: Head Coach: Bruce Shatel hasguided the GreenWave the past ten seasons to

an overall record of 237-29-23. His teams have

won 6 NJISAA State Championships, 3 Mennen

Cup Championships, and 4 NJIHL Gordon Cup

Championships. In 2002, 2006, 2008 and 2009-

2011 the GreenWave took home the Star Ledger

Trophy, finishing their respective seasons ranked

#1 in New Jersey. In 2008, 2009 and 2010,

Delbarton set a state record for wins with 27

victories each season. They also finished the

2008 season ranked #6 in the country, and the

2009 and 2010 season ranked #2 nationally.

Shatel was named the State Coach of theYear in

2002, 2008 and 2009-2011 for his team’s success.

A Morristown native, Coach Shatel graduated from Deerfield Academy where he

captained the 1990 ice hockey team and earned All-New England honors. He later

accepted a scholarship to attend Providence College.

The GreenWave wrestling camp is designed to develop basic wrestling

skills in all three positions of scholastic wrestling, with an emphasis on

the neutral position.Wrestlers of abilities will benefit greatly from the

techniques taught by our coaches and clinicians. Matches will be set

up between wrestlers with common ability to provide a fun and

competitive atmosphere.Nutrition and the dangers of weight loss

will also be discussed.

Head Coach: Bryan Stoll is coming off hisseventh year as the head coach of the Green

Wave wrestling team. In those years the Green

Wave has won 2 Northern Hills Conference

titles, District IX titles 2009-2011, and Morris

CountyTournament Championships 2009-2011.

In 2010 they finished #21 in NJ, the Green

Wave’s second year in theTop 25. 2009-2011 NJ

AC Champions, 2010 District 9 Coach of the

Year, 2011 NJ State Champions. In 2011 Coach

Stoll was named Morris County Daily Record and

Star Ledger Coach of theYear. Coach Stoll was

twice named NHC Coach of theYear. In his

short time here he has also coached several

individual state champs and placers, including

Mike Grey, NJ’s only 4 time State Champion. In high school, Coach Stoll

was a 3-time region finalist, 2-time regional champion and a third place

finisher in the NJ state tournament. He went on to Duke University

where he was a varsity wrestler and graduated with a B.A. in sociology.

Equipment:Wrestlers must bring wrestling shoes, head gear, and 2pairs of shorts and t-shirts.

Wrestling CampDates: 7/23 – 7/27/2012

This week-long camp will provide athletes with the basics in throwing

the shot put, discus, and javelin for track and field. Each throw will be

broken down and taken step by step to ensure understanding of the

body’s movement and positioning.Throughout the week the athletes will

also go through a series or body weight exercises that help develop their

bodies.At the week’s end there will be a competition among the campers

to see how they have improved during the week.

Head Coach: Sean Rose, Asst. CoachDelbartonTrack and Field. Sean Rose is in his

first season coaching the Delbarton throwers for

the winter and spring track and field teams. Prior

to arriving at Delbarton, Sean coached at

Chatham High School and had one thrower

place fourth in the state at the Meet of Champions for discus.

Assistant Coach: Mike Beach, Head of Strength & Conditioning andAsst. Football Coach-Defensive Coordinator, Linebackers. Coach Beach

has been teaching and coaching at Delbarton for the last 12 years. He is

currently the Head of the Physical Education & Health Department, Head

of Strength and Conditioning, and Assistant Football Coach-Defensive

Coordinator, Linebackers.

Before coming to Delbarton, Coach Beach was the Head Football Coach,

Head Boys & Girls Track Coach in 1994-95 and the Head BoysTrack

Coach from 1995 to 1997 at Morris Catholic HS.While at Morris

Catholic, he won the Northern Hills Girls ConferenceTrack

Championship and Morris CountyTrack Championship in 1994-95. In

1996 & 1997, he won the Northern Hills ConferenceTrack

Championship. Beach was twice named Daily Record Coach of theYear.

Track & Field Throwing CampDates: 7/16 – 7/20/2012

The tennis camp’s goal is to improve a player’s technique, physical fitness,

and love for the game.The camp will develop the athletes’ proficiency in

their groundstrokes, volleys, overheads, and serves through rigorous drills

and instruction. Campers will work on preparing for match play using a

variety of drills and competitive tournaments to achieve this goal. Finally,

the camp will improve the athletes’ physical conditioning through a

variety of exercises including footwork drills, abdominal exercises,

and plyometrics.

The Delbarton Sports Experience provides boys an exposure to multiple

sports and athletic experiences.Through instruction, game play and fun

activities, boys will develop an understanding of the basic skills and

strategies involved in soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, tennis and

baseball.The camp will emphasize participation and an understanding of

the rules and skills of the games, while fostering in boys an appreciation

of these sports and athletics in general.The Delbarton Sports Experience

is an excellent opportunity for the young athlete to explore a variety of

sports interests and athletic experiences.

Summer Sessionis happeningat DelbartonThe Delbarton Summer Session is a co-ed academic experience forstudents entering grades three through twelve.Held in air-conditionedDelbarton School classrooms, the session offers a wide range of academicopportunities to advance or enrich the education of its students.The collegeprep courses mirror Delbarton’s traditional curriculum and small classsizes assure personal attention.Delbarton teachers and carefully selectededucators from other schools are highly qualified in their fields andconcerned about the personal as well as academic progress of each student.

We offer three types of courses: Advanced Credit Courses meet for four hoursdaily from June 20 - July 27. Each course advances a student’s standing in thefield and is equivalent to a full-year Delbarton course.Enrichment Coursesreview and strengthen academic skills or broaden a student’s education. SkillsCourses are designed to meet specific needs of students.

Camp Director, Delbarton Summer Session

Kelly Gleason has been involved with the

Delbarton Summer Session since its inception

twelve years ago. Prior to being named

director in 2003 she taught various courses in

the program including Discovery Science,Algebra 1, Geometry and the Math

Clinic.This fall will mark her 29th year as a member of the Delbarton faculty

where she currently serves as Junior Guidance Counselor and mathematics

teacher. Past mathematics department chairperson, she has taught a wide variety

of both math and science courses during her tenure at Delbarton. She has

served on the Dover Board of Education where she chaired the Curriculum

Committee and was responsible for initiating and aiding in the redesigning of the

Dover Middle School.

General Information

AccreditationDelbarton School is accredited by the Middle States Association of

College and Secondary Schools.

SchedulingAdvanced credit courses (six weeks) will be conducted from June 20

through July 27. Enrichment courses (5 weeks) will be conducted from

June 25 to July 27 unless otherwise noted in the course description.

Skill courses will be held as noted in the course description. Meeting

times for all classes are listed in the course descriptions. Classes meet

each day, Monday through Friday.There are no classes scheduled on

Wednesday, July 4th.

Academic CreditWhen approved by a student’s home school, students may receive

credit for their work at Delbarton. Students seeking academic credit for

summer study should make arrangements in advance with their own

schools. Upon request the Summer Session gladly forwards grades to the

student’s home school. Grades and written

comments will be mailed to each student two

times during the session.

Tuition and FeesA $50 non refundable application fee isrequired. This is a separate charge and is not

included in summer session tuition fees.Tuition is $575 for enrichment

classes and $1,100 for advanced credit courses except where noted

differently in the course description. All tuition is due by May 1.If a student has an unpaid tuition balance after May 1, his/her place in the

class may be forfeited. Students may enroll in a class after the May 1

deadline but must pay the enrollment fee and full tuition at that time.

Books and other materials may be purchased through the school

bookstore.

RefundsThe $50 application fee is non-refundable. During the first half of your

child’s enrollment, a refund of 50 percent of the remaining balance will be

allowed for dropping a course. No refunds will be granted after a student

has completed half of his/her course.

TransportationDelbarton does not provide transportation

for the summer session.A list of all students

by town is available on the first day to facilitate

the formation of car pools or the making of

other arrangements.

RegistrationStudents can enroll by completing the application to the right and

forwarding it along with the $50 non-refundable application fee to

Delbarton School Summer Session.

The application should be filled out and promptly returned to Delbarton

School with the non-refundable $50 application fee.Application should be

made as soon as possible due to limited class size.The Summer Session

reserves the right to cancel courses with enrollment of four or fewer

students. For advanced credit courses, approval by a school official where

the student is attending school is necessary; applicants should contact

their school’s guidance department for approval.
