Plain Rows1. Sew the Fabric V 21⁄2" x WOF (6.35cm x

WOF) strips together end to end to make a long strip. Cut the strip into (2) 21⁄2" x 721⁄2" (6.35cm x 184.15cm) and set aside as Row 1A and 1B.

2. Sew the Fabric V 11⁄2" x WOF (3.81cm x WOF) strips together end to end to make a long strip. Cut the strip into (4) 11⁄2" x 721⁄2" (3.81cm x 184.15cm) and set aside for the Dash Rows.

5. Lay a 51⁄4" x 51⁄4" (13.34cm x 13.34cm) square right side up and pin two marked Fabric V squares right side down in opposite corners of the larger square, so that the marks align and the corners of the small squares overlap.

6. Sew 1⁄4" (0.64cm) from either side of the drawn line through all layers. Cut apart on the drawn line into (2) units. Press open towards Fabric V. (Fig. 2)

30. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each remaining Fabric U 11⁄2" x 11⁄2" (3.81cm x 3.81cm) and 31⁄2" x 31⁄2" (8.89cm x 8.89cm) square. 31. Pin Fabric U 11⁄2" x 11⁄2" (3.81cm x 3.81cm) squares, right sides together with lines oriented as shown, on both ends of each 11⁄2" x 31⁄2"

32. Pin a Fabric U 31⁄2" x 31⁄2 (8.89cm x 8.89cm) square, right sides together with line oriented as shown, to a bottom corner of the 61⁄2" x 51⁄2" (16.51cm x 13.97cm) piece listed above. Note: Pay close attention to the orientation of Fabric A, B, and C. Be sure to pin the Fabric U squares in the bottom corner, so the motif is centered and the bottom of the motif is framed by the triangles after sewing. Sew along the line through all layers. Trim the seam allowance to 1⁄4" (0.64cm) and press open. Repeat with the opposite corner to make (1) unit of each 61⁄2" x 51⁄2" (16.51cm x 13.97cm). (Fig. 25)

Quilt AssemblyRefer to Figure 29 to assemble the quilt top.

36. Sew Row 1A-10A together in order as shown to make half the quilt. Repeat with Row 1B-10B.

37. Sew Half A to the top of Row 11 and sew Half B to the bottom of Row 11 as shown to make the quilt top.

38. Layer the backing, batting, and quilt top; baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim the batting and backing even with the quilt top.

39. Sew the binding strips end to end to make one continuous piece. Fold in half wrong sides together and press the length.

40. Sew the binding to the quilt top, mitering the corners. Turn the binding to the back of the quilt and hand-stitch in place.
