One of the things that distinguish the Catholic Church all over the world is our love and devotion to our blessed mother Mary. It is evident as we look at the many feasts we celebrate for our Lady throughout the liturgical year. This coming week we have two celebrations; the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. While the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is an obligatory celebration for all of us Catholics, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a celebration of love and gratitude to Our Lady for the many miracles and favors she grants under that title. I particularly have enjoyed all of our Lady’s feasts, but since my ordination as a priest, I have become very fond of the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, not only because of the many supernatural things associated with Guadalupe, but also because there is a personal reason to be grateful that day as I celebrate my birthday as well. I have to confess that as I grow older, I have become more and more marveled with our Lady of Guadalupe, as I see her protective hand upon me and upon so many thousands of people who come to her asking for help. I can only say that I have been blessed to witness so many miracles and powerful signs of Mary in my life and especially in my ministry for the church. There are many things to consider in our meditation of Guada-lupe. For instance, the fact that Our Lady makes her presence known as an expectant mother in the midst of a culture of death makes apparent her mission to protect our lives and to protect all human life, since all of us are children of God created in His image. In this way, it is important to remember that for almost five hundred years, Our Lady of Guadalupe has taught us about her love and protection for all human life. She has done it through her presence and the miracle of her image, but more especially with her continued care for all those who have been humble enough to ask for her help. On the other hand speaking about the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, I feel it is important to say that this celebration is often misunderstood. I have found many people in my ministry who have the idea that what we celebrate at this feat is the conception of Jesus. However, the solemnity of the Im-maculate Conception is a feast that commemorates the concep-tion of Mary, in which she was kept free from original sin. This is not only a celebration, but a dogma of faith or in other words, it is something that we Catholics have to believe and it was officially recognized by the Church in 1854. I invite you during this Advent season to take some time to meditate about our heavenly mother and her continued mission to protect us, as well as to guide us to follow Jesus Her son and Our Lord. I invite you to spend time talking, thanking, honoring, asking and praying with Mary. Let us remember that Mary is the most relevant person during the advent season or the season that the Catholic Church presents us with, in preparation for the nativity of Jesus our Lord. On the other hand speaking about the Solemnity of the

Uno de los aspectos que distingue a la Iglesia Católica en todo el mundo es el amor y devoción que tenemos por María, nuestra Madre Santísima. Esto es evidente cuando miramos las muchas fiestas y celebraciones que tenemos en su honor durante el año litúrgico, esta semana que viene tendremos dos celebraciones. La solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción y la Fiesta a Nues-tra Señora de Guadalupe; siendo la solemnidad de la Inmacula-da Concepción una celebración obligatoria para todos nosotros los católicos, la fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe es una celebración de gratitud y amor por los muchos milagros y favo-res que Ella ha concedido bajo ese nombre. Yo particularmente he disfrutado todas las fiestas dedicadas a la Virgen, pero desde mi ordenación como sacerdote, me ha empezado a gustar mu-chísimo la fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe, no solo por los mu-chos aspectos sobrenaturales asociados con Guadalupe, sino porque tengo una razón personal especial para estar agradecido ya que ese día celebro mi cumpleaños también. Tengo que con-fesar que a medida que me voy haciendo mayor, mi admiración y devoción por la Virgen de Guadalupe crece al ver su protección sobre mí y sobre miles de personas que vienen a ella pidiendo su ayuda. Solo puedo decir que he sido bendecido al ser testigo de los muchos milagros y los signos poderosos de María en mi vida y especialmente en mi ministerio en la iglesia.

Hay muchas cosas a considerar cuando meditamos acerca de la virgen de Guadalupe. Por ejemplo, el hecho que la Virgen hace su aparición como una madre embarazada en medio de una cul-tura de muerte, muestra su misión de proteger nuestras vidas y proteger la vida humana, ya que todos somos hijos de Dios crea-dos a Su semejanza. De esta manera, es importante recordar que por mas de quinientos años, la Virgen de Guadalupe nos ha en-señado acerca de su amor y protección por la vida humana, ella lo ha hecho a través de Su presencia y el milagro de su imagen, pero mas especialmente por el cuidado continuo que tiene por todos aquellos, que son lo suficientemente humildes para acer-carse a ella buscando ayuda.

De otra manera, hablando de la solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción, siento que es importante decir que esta celebración ha sido mal entendida. He encontrado muchas personas en mi ministerio, que tienen la idea que lo que nosotros celebramos en esta fiesta es la concepción de Jesús. Realmente la solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción es una fiesta que conmemora la concepción de María, en la cual ella se mantuvo libre del pecado original. No es únicamente una celebración, es un dogma de fe, en otras palabras, es algo en lo cual los católicos tenemos que creer y esta oficialmente reconocido por la iglesia desde 1854.

Yo los invito durante esta temporada de adviento a meditar acer-ca de nuestra madre Santísima y su misión continua de prote-gernos a nosotros, como también de guiarnos para que sigamos a Jesús Su hijo y Nuestro Señor. Yo los invito a dedicar tiempo para hablar, dar gracias, honrar, rogar y rezar con María. Recor-demos que María es la persona más relevante que tenemos du-rante la estación del adviento o la estación en la cual la iglesia católica se prepara para el nacimiento de Jesús, nuestro Señor.

NAMI Douglas will meet on Tuesday,

December 8, 2009 for their annual Christmas Party

from 7-9 pm. Please bring a dish: meat, salad,

vegetable, or dessert. The meeting place is located at

the Alpha Fowler Community Building on O’Neal

Drive off Hospital Drive, in front of Douglas County

Courthouse. Nami Douglas is a grassroots, self-help,

support, education, and advocacy organization for

family members and consumers dedicated to

improving the lives of people with severe mental

illness

NAMI Connections is a weekly recovery support Group for people living with mental illness in which people learn from each others experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other encouragement and understanding. Nami Connections meets every Thursdays from 6-7:30 pm at the Douglas County Library, 6810 Selman Dr. For information please contact: Cheryl at 770-942-1196 or

RCIA Explanatory Mass Father Bill will be saying a special Explanatory Mass Monday evening, December 14th at 7:00 pm that will include a de-tailed explanation of the prayers and actions of the Mass.

nity to help you understand more fully the beauty and mean-

We would like to extend our great appreciation to all the people in

the past who have given so generously of their time and talent in

maintaining the Church and Rectory Grounds. We especially

thank Phillipe Rodas and Antonio Margarita for the generous

amount of time they gave recently in achieving this goal. Also,

Thank You to Edwin Avila for his hard work in cleaning the carpet

in the Church. And to Nelson Cruz of Cruz Pest Control for donat-

ing his time and materials at the Rectory. We appreciate all our

parishioners do for the support and maintenance of our parish.

And Thank You so very Much to Emilia Daniell for all her hard

work and dedication in the office.

Queremos extender nuestro agradecimiento y gran aprecio a todas

aquellas personas que brindan de forma generosa su tiempo y

talento para mantener nuestra iglesia, edificio de oficinas y la rec-

CHRISTMAS FOOD DRIVE

The Teen and Middle School programs at St. Theresa are partnering up with

the St. Vincent de Paul Society to help feed the hungry. We are collecting

food items for Christmas dinner.

Below is a list of what we need by grade:

6th- Cream of Mushroom Soup

7th- Canned Green Peas 8th- Canned Cranberry Sauce

9th- Canned Corn

10th- Canned Green Beans

11th & 12th- Boxed Stuffing Mix

Please have your child/teen bring in these items to class during the month of

December. If each person brings 3-4 items a piece we will have enough food

to serve entire dinners to many of the hungry in our community. Thank you

in advance for your cooperation in this event!

CCW Woman of the year Nominations

The Council of Catholic Woman of St Theresa is asking for parish-

ioners to nominate a woman to represent our Parish at the Annual

Recognition Day Mass and Reception to be held at Christ the King

Cathedral on January 30,2010.

The nominee should be active in Church and/or community work, be willing to accept the position of Woman of the year and not have already been chosen for this position for St. Theresa Parish. Please give us a short biography of her activities. For more information, please call Rosemary Crockette at 770-942-1422. Please bring your letter no later than December 13, 2009 and place

it in the lobby of the church.

beginning at 6:00 pm to Midnight; and on Saturday, December 12th at 6:00 am. Donations are Greatly Appreciated!

Todos están invitados a la celebración de la Virgen de Guadalupe, empezando el viernes 11 a las 6:00 de la tarde y el sábado 12 a las 6:00 de la mañana. Aun necesita-mos postres, bebidas frías y calientes para los dos días; especialmente tamales para el día 12 a las 6:00 de la mañana. Al final de la misa pueden anotarse con algún servi-dor. Children’s Christmas Party The annual Knights of Columbus Children's Christmas Party will be held in the Parish Hall after the Saturday 5PM Mass, December 12. Fun, food, games and Santa. All children are welcomed.
