Anointing of the Sick—Anyone facing surgery or dealing with a serious illness should contact the parish office or Fr. Kevin for the reception of this sacrament. December 17, 2018 Dear Community Service Guild:
The Transition and Care Management (TCM) pro-gram wanted to share our appreciation to all of you for the wonderful Christmas stockings filled with candy and thank-you cards from the cub scouts. We passed the stockings out to all our Post 9/11 Veterans who came into the program over the last few weeks. These Veterans served in Opera-tion Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn (OEF/OIF/OND). All the Veterans commented on how special these gifts made them feel. We believe our Veterans are America's Heroes, and believe they need our support and encoura-gement for the work they do for America. The gifts you make remind them how much you care and appreciate the work they have done. Happy Holidays to you all!

17 de diciembre de 2018 Estimado Gremio de Servicio a la Comunidad: El programa Transition and Care Management (TCM) quería compartir nuestro agradecimiento a todos ustedes por las maravillosas medias navide-ñas llenas de dulces y tarjetas de agradecimiento de los cachorros exploradores. Pasamos las medias a todos nuestros Veteranos Post 9/11 que ingresaron al programa a través del las ultimas semanas. Estos veteranos sirvieron en la Operación Libertad Duradera, la Operación Li-bertad Iraquí y la Operación New Dawn (OEF / OIF / OND). Todos los veteranos comentaron lo especiales que les hicieron sentir estos regalos. Creemos que nuestros veteranos son los héroes de América, y creemos que necesitan nuestro apoyo y estímulo para el trabajo que realizan pa-ra América. Reflexión del la Solemnidad de Maria
Llamar a María Theotokos, la "portadora de Dios", es cele-
brar el papel único que ha desempeñado, y continúa
desempeñando, en el plan de salvación de Dios. Y como
honramos a Theotokos en nuestra celebración de la so-
lemnidad de María, Madre de Dios, el 1 de enero, también
celebramos el Octavo Día de Navidad, recordando la cir-
cuncisión y el nombramiento de Jesús el octavo día des-
pués de su nacimiento (cf. Lucas). 2:21).
La icónica imagen navideña de María soste-
niendo a su Hijo pequeño encarna el miste-
rio del nacimiento del Señor, ya que reúne a
los elementos humanos y divinos de la En-
carnación. Y, sin embargo, al honrar a María
como la Madre de Dios, también estamos
invitados a considerar otra imagen: la Madre
acunando el cuerpo de su Hijo asesinado. Las
mismas armas que mantenían al Príncipe de
la Paz en un establo en Belén recibieron el
cuerpo del Salvador crucificado del mundo
en una colina fuera de Jerusalén. El Hijo de esta Madre es
la verdadera fuente de paz entre las naciones, dentro de
las familias y las comunidades, y en lo más profundo de
nuestros corazones.
En su Mensaje para la Jornada Mundial de la Paz
(también observada el 1 de enero), el Papa Francisco ha-
bla de la violencia que afecta al mundo actual: “Jesús mis-
mo vivió en tiempos de violencia. Sin embargo, él enseñó
que el verdadero campo de batalla, donde se encuentran
la violencia y la paz, es el corazón humano ”. Y fue en lo
más profundo de su corazón que María contempló todo lo
que le estaba sucediendo a ella y a su Hijo. Mantuvo esta
postura contemplativa durante toda su vida y encontró
paz en su contemplación y oración. Y, como ha reflejado la
hermana Barbara Reid, OP, “Una actitud fundamental pa-
ra hacer nacer el sueño de paz de Dios para nosotros es
vivir como María, en maravilla contemplativa, viviendo en
el misterio, confiando en los caminos del Santo” ( de la
palabra permanente: año A).
Al celebrar esta gran fiesta de la Madre de Dios, en última
instancia se nos pide que nos unamos a María para con-
templar el regalo de su Hijo y permitir que la gracia de
estos días santos nos cambie, para que el Príncipe de la
Paz pueda reinar en nuestros corazones. y en nuestro
mundo.
Reflection on the Solemnity of Mary
To call Mary the Theotokos, the “God-Bearer,” is to celebrate the unique role that she has played—and continues to play—in God’s plan of salvation. And as we honor the Theotokos in our celebration of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, on January 1, we also celebrate the Octave Day of Christmas, recalling the circumcision and naming of Jesus on the eighth day after his birth (cf. Luke 2:21).
The iconic Christmas image of Mary holding her infant Son embodies the mystery of the Lord’s birth, as it brings together the human and divine elements of the Incarnation. And yet, in honoring Mary as the Mother of God, we are also invited to consider another image: the Mother cradling the body of her murdered Son. The same arms which held the Prince of Peace in a stable in Bethlehem received body of the crucified Savior of the world on a hill outside of Jerusalem. The Son of this Mother is the true source of peace among nations, within families and communities, and in the deepest recesses of our hearts.
In his Message for the World Day of Peace (also observed on January 1), Pope Francis speaks of the violence that plagues the world today: “Jesus himself lived in violent times. Yet he taught that the true battlefield, where violence and peace meet, is the human heart.” And it was in the depths of her heart that Mary contemplated everything that was happening to her and her Son. She maintained this contemplative stance throughout her life and she found peace in her contemplation and prayer. And, as Sister Barbara Reid, O.P., has reflected, “A fundamental attitude for bringing to birth God’s dream of peace for us is to live like Mary, in contemplative wonder, dwelling in mystery, trusting in the ways of the Holy One” (from Abiding Word: Year A).
As we celebrate this great feast of the Mother of God, we are ultimately being asked to join Mary in contemplating the gift of her Son and allowing the grace of these holy days to change us, so that the Prince of Peace may reign in our hearts and in our world.
