What an amazing turn out
for this year’s Christmas
concert. All in attendance
were treated to a truly
fabulous show. Our stu-
dents did an amazing job
preparing and performing
3 masterful concerts
(10am, 2pm and 6:30pm).
With the help of Mr. Kow-
alik, and many of the Pol-
son staff, our students
were able to memorize
song lyrics, scripted lines
and a little choreography.
Thank you to everyone
who made this event a
huge success.
2018 has been a blur! I am
sure we can all say that
this school year has been
moving extremely fast,
and as I look back, I can
say it has also been a fun
filled start to the school
year with so many learning
opportunities for our Pol-
son students.
It was great to see so
many parents join us for
Student Led Conferences
in November. I hope you
were able to experience
some of the learning your
child has been a part of
this trimester. Students
were working hard to pre-
pare for this evening and
afternoon event. I also
hope you were able to ask
any questions you may
have had this trimester.
These opportunities are
great for classroom teach-
ers and families to visit
Speaking of huge success,
thank you to everyone
who supported our PAC
raffle, bake sale and stu-
dent created item sale.
Families supported our
PAC , and our “cooking in
the classroom” budget by
contributing almost a
$1000 the day of the con-
cert. Thank you, Polson
Community!
Families were also very
generous with our hamper
drive this season, and do-
nating to the silver collec-
tion the day of the con-
cert, with almost $200 in
spare change collected.
These funds will support
our Christmas Hamper
drive this year.
On behalf of all at Polson
School, I wish you all the
best in the holiday season!

Thank you to every-one for coming to Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences. Working together to help your child have a successful year is our number one goal!
With the cold weather here (or somewhat cold) please make sure that your child comes to school pre-pared for the outdoor
weather.
Winter Break Home-work: Please make sure to review letters, sounds, words and printing during the winter break. Please spend 10 minutes a day so as to ensure an easy transition into the start of the new school year.
This magical time of
year is an excellent time for readers to be drawn into a good fic-tion book. When read-ing please make sure to focus on the setting, characters and retelling of the story for proper un-derstanding.
Happy Holidays from my family to yours!
ronment.
We have settled into our
routines nicely and are
ready to take our learning
to the next level! In math,
we are beginning to look
at the importance of place
value by investigating with
manipulatives and using
center-based activities to
understand how numbers
are made of groups of
tens. We are also learning
that each group has a
name: ones, tens, hun-
dreds, thousands, etc.
Thank you again to every-
one who came out and
made our Christmas Con-
cert a smashing success.
The students were all
amazing and I’m proud of
the way the grade twos
sang! We are already
looking forward to the
next performance. May
you have a very merry
holiday season. See you in
2019!
Happy holidays,
Chad Harms
Holiday greetings from
grade 2! Winter is in the
air and we are busy this
time of year preparing for
the fun of the holiday sea-
son. We have been learn-
ing about symmetry by
making symmetrical snow-
flakes that we will hang in
our classroom. Also, to
celebrate the season, we
are learning how to re-
create a classic holiday
story: Frosty the Snow-
man. The students are
learning how to make a
storyboard, write a script,
and film a short movie. All
the snow, ice, slush, and
puddles have been amaz-
ing for talking about our
new topic in science: Wa-
ter in the air and the envi-

Wow! Can you believe it us already December and we are half way through the school year. We have had an incredible amount of
experiences and learning opportunities. It would be impossible to tell you about everything but, here are a few of our highlights... our
biggest undertaking was to once again prepare and plan the annual Christmas craft sale. These kids are amazing!! We did a great deal of
learning as we dehydrated fruits, used aroma therapy to create stunning ornaments, make bees wax candles, grape jelly, decorate all the
jars, make apple cider mix, apple cider vinegar, paint the glass bottles, learn about the process of fermentation, make a hearty soup mix...
Oh and we even tried to make honey taffy but that was a bit of a,”sticky situation”, but, did we give up? No, we found a new recipe and
made honey granola.
On Nov. 1st Agriculture in the City filmed us to promote the Little Green Thumbs and Agriculture Canada wide! Believe it or not we did all
this and still kept up with all of our other subjects. Mathematically we really started to, “figure things out” as we explored numbers in our
lives, check out our bulletin board to see how we “measure up”. We continue to work on our daily math, covering all 5 math strands. We
have focused on place value, addition and subtraction and now we are borrowing and carrying. In January we are going to take a closer look
at multiplication.
In health we are continuing with our Roots if Empathy lessons and our adorable teacher Matayla who is now almost 6 months old. Matayla is
an awesome teacher, she visits us every month, of course her amazing mom comes along to help her answer our many questions and her
big brothers CJ and Journey like to help too. On December 6th we celebrated Matayla’s upcoming first Christmas. We are also continuing to
learn about Zones, our feelings and how to regulate and understand our feelings. We are also learning about nutrition and we have become
Super Heroes of nutrition using the Power to Play program. In Language arts we just finished writing our class book using
patterns and our knowledge of farm animals.
Daily we are practicing and developing our skills of reading, writing and speaking. In Social studies we have been learning
about wants and needs it took a while and I am not sure I have convinced them but, they know now that video games are a
want not a need. We are practicing and building our citizenship skills. Scientifically speaking we are still sticking to our
lessons on magnets.
Our indoor garden is growing strong as we continue to learn about plant life cycles and sustainability. Like our garden we
are growing and learning everyday. The students also successfully completed their first student led conferences in
November and a huge thank you goes out to all of you, their wonderful, supportive parents. Your support and
encouragement is greatly appreciated. Then only weeks later the students put on an awesome Christmas concert!
These are just a few of the highlights from the last few months, it always amazes me when I look back at all we have
accomplished in such a short time. I am so proud of each and everyone of my students!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy holiday Season, Merry Christmas from Mrs. Baines and the terrific grade 3/4 class!
Grade 3/4 News Mrs. Baines
We started out the month of December with our Unity Tree Celebration, where we sang many Christmas carols, took part in the official lighting of the tree, and even saw Santa! Back in class, the grade four stu-dents all made their own ornaments for the Christ-mas tree, and enjoyed can-dy canes from Santa.
The Christmas Concert was fantastic and many of the grade fours took on large roles in the play. I am so proud of them for all their hard work and practice, as we all are! I think it really showed in all three perfor-mances they did on the 4th! In the classroom, the kids have also been learning some new French Christmas words this month.
We have spent this month taking a much closer look at pollution, and the impacts
subtraction skills in-cluding some problem solving. The students will be revisiting their skills in multiplying and dividing next as well as some graphing. They will continue to build on their problem-solving abilities. In science, we are contin-uing our weather in-quiry and will be devel-oping a building pro-ject that incorporate our learning. As well the students created a sway project about a weather phenomenon
Where is the time go-ing? It is hard to be-lieve that we are gear-ing up for the Christ-mas season. The Grade 3’s, 4’s and 5’s audi-tioned for parts in this year’s production “Jingle Bell Hill” worked hard memoriz-ing lines and songs and did a fantastic job per-forming on December 4th! Thank you to eve-ryone who came out to watch and supported our fundraising. In the classroom we are just finishing polishing up our addition/
that interested them which they will present to their classmates. In Social Studies we are coming to the end of our brief inquiry on Canada. Our new in-quiry is on the First Nations with many hands-on projects. As we move into the holi-day season we will be doing some crafting – if anyone has old Christmas cards that can be donated – we could use them for a class craft! Happy Holidays to all!

that we have on our en-vironment. Students are encouraged to have dis-cussions at home with their families about some of the things they have learned in class, like the impacts of chemicals, cleaning agents, and lawn fertilizers, how we can minimize water us-age, ways to keep our air and water clean, and the importance of properly recycling old technology from our homes. Your child has a lot of great knowledge in these are-as, so I encourage you to talk about these topics together or do a home search over the holidays for things that could po-tentially be harmful to our environment. We also have a guest speak-er coming in from the Green Action Centre this month for a presentation
called "Holidays that Don't Cost the Earth" on December. 19th, where we hope to learn how holidays can be made more earth friendly too!
To end the month we are teaming up with Ms. Uzat to partake in some cool new technology learning!
Have a great holiday, and let's all try to keep reducing, reusing, and recycling in mind this Christmas,

It's hard to believe that this first term is coming to an end so quickly. We have had a busy and exciting time with all of our activities thus far. From the start with the Cross Country Run to Flag Football to Indoor Soccer Club to the Volleyball tour-nament we have met with success at every step of the way. To be continued after
Another Christmas Con-cert behind us, and anoth-er reason to be very proud of our students! The per-formance of “The Lights of Jingle Bell Hill” was out-standing, and it was a huge success. I would like to express a sincere 'Thank You!' for everyone who made our Christmas Con-cert possible, especially to our Polson students for their involvement and dedication. I think that by singing and dancing we set a good mood for our fami-lies and friends for the Holidays. Thank you to the Administration and staff at Polson for making this concert possible.
Thank you for all of those who supported our Silver Collection. We managed to collect over $200 in sup-port of Christmas Ham-pers!!! Thank you again!!!
I hope that everyone en-joyed our play as much as the students and I!!!
