December 2018 Newsletter

Eastbourne [email protected]

Due to a shortage of target pins, the club hasdecided to offer an “AMNESTY” to all thosemembers who are hoarding said target pins.

You may be keeping these pins by accident, having put them in pockets of coats and

forgotten to take them out again, or, they canbe hiding in your quiver, tackle box or

anywhere else that you put your archeryequipment.

They are not really intended for use asfoot-markers because quite often they get

forgotten and not picked up and eventually getburied in the ground and so disappear forever.

These are becoming an endangered species andwe would not like them to become extinct

otherwise we will have no target faces to shootat.

You can return them anonymously, just putthem back where they belong.

A message from our club secretary.

As some of you know, we received a request from theHampden Park Sports Centre to repair arrow damage to theend wall of the sports hall,.

A small team of volunteers got to work on the 2nd Decemberwith filler, trowels and scrapers and we made good thedamage accumulated over several seasons of indoorshooting.

My thanks go to Liz Turton, Nick Royall, Dave Chadwick,Mike Kershaw who volunteered to help me in making therepairs.

The club has now purchased three more OSB sheets so thatwe can form a complete barrier behind the bosses tominimise further damage in the future.

But, please, the intention is to hit the targets, not the wall!

Finally I would like to wish you all the compliments of theseason have a good Christmas and Happy New Year andsee you on the shooting line, weather permitting.

A message from our chairman

Dear all,

As you are probably all aware, I am stepping down asChairman of the club at the AGM in February, so for thelast time as chairman, I want to wish you all a very MerryChristmas, and a Happy New Year. May your arrows flystraight in 2019, and your archery aims and ambitions berealised…..

My first cheeky ambition is for one of you lovely people tocome forward and have a chat with me about possiblybecoming the next chairperson. As it is panto season, if Ihad a magic lamp I would rub it and see what the geniesays, but I only have a torch, and it’s not quite the same!!!

But seriously, if anyone is interested, please drop me anemail to [email protected] or call/message meon 07818 688044

Happy Christmas, and I will hopefully see you on the linenext year

Ian

Proposed new tournament for 2019

Dear Members,

It can be quite daunting for new and novice, and sometimesintermediate archers when it comes to competitions. To gosome way towards remedying this, I am introducing atournament purely for the novice/intermediate archer nextJuly.

As a club only shoot, there is no entry fee, but depending onthe success of this next year, we may throw it open to otherclubs.

I hope to encourage the beginners of the 2019 courses toenter as well. To be eligible to enter, you must be a secondclass archer or below on your chosen bowstyle.

I am afraid that if you have ever shot the chosen bowstyle asa first class archer or above, you are not eligible to enter,(unless it is on a different bowstyle for which you have notearned a first class badge)

There will be medals for gents and ladies in each bowstyle, with the longest target at 60m. I hope that everyone will getbehind this tournament, and if you are not eligible to enter, then I would ask you to please come down and help out onthe day.

Many thanks,

Ian

Indoor Xmas Fun ShootThe second indoor fun shoot of numbered baubles on a Christmas tree causedquite a few laughs this afternoon. Five teams took part, with four in each team(maximum of 12 arrows per team) and a fairly even spread of bowstyles across theteams. (I did try!!) However, one team (Team 5) dominated (Diane Billenness (Rec);Mike King (Rec); Kirsty Davis (BB) and Rene le Bouedec (LB) winning two of theplanned three rounds. The third round was won on a tie-break between DavinaForward of Team 2 and Martin Taylor of Team 4. Three arrows each and closest tothe middle of the star to win the tie-break. Davina just managed to beat Martin. Witha little time in hand, we then shot a fun round at the boxes at the bottom of thetarget. I asked for two arrows in each box and, Team 5 won yet again in a time of 15minutes.First place: Team 5: Diane Billenness (Rec); Mike King (Rec); Kirsty Davis (BB);Rene le Bouedec (LB)Runner-up: Team 2: Davina Forward (Comp); David Gates (Rec); GiorgiaD’Abbraccio (BB); Lyn Core (LB)2nd Runner-up: Team 4: Martin Taylor (Rec); Liz Davis (BB); Liz Turton (BB); ChrisEvans (LB)It was agreed that this fun shoot will be part of the indoor fixtures next year and shotjust before Christmas. If you are interested in shooting next year, watch out for thedetails and sign up to be included in a team.
