Filmed in Dominique-Abel and Fiona Gordon’s signature whimsical style, LOST IN PARIS stars the

filmmakers as a small-town Canadian librarian and a strangely seductive, oddly egotistical vagabond. When Fiona’s

orderly life is disrupted by a letter of distress from her 88-year-old Aunt Martha (Emmanuelle Riva) who is living in Paris, Fiona hops on the first plane she can and arrives only to discover that Martha has disappeared. In an avalanche of spectacular disasters, she encounters Dom, the affable, but annoying tramp who just won’t leave her alone. Replete with the amazing antics and intricately choreographed slapstick that has come to define Abel and Gordon’s work, LOST IN PARIS is a wondrously fun and hectic tale of peculiar people finding love while lost in the City of Lights. 83 minutes. Not Rated. Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David (Hugh Grant), the handsome newly elected British Prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Matine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary. 135 minutes. Rated R for sexuality, nudity and language.

A Healthy Holiday Plate Here are some of my favorite ways to help

make your Christmas dinner a little more healthy and help make you feel a lot less guilty... ● Ditch the pork and roast beef. Instead use organic turkey, wild caught fish, or quinoa. ● Use sweet potatoes instead of traditional

mashed potatoes smothered in butter. ● Pile on extra veggies like green beans and carrots, instead of all the bread and stuffing. ● Cook using coconut oil instead of butter. Also, use

it as a topping instead of butter. ● Ditch the milk and drink water or almond milk. ● Avoid the cookies and pies. Instead do grass-fed

yogurt with apples or buy vegan cookies.

Thank you Handy Crafters $2000 HBCOA Donation

The Handy Crafters had two holiday sales last month and from the sale of their hand crafted items, donated $2000 to the HBCOA. This money supports the Holiday Meals program as well as

purchases the supplies for craft classes such as Morning Masterpiece & Cardketeers. This crafty bunch of volunteers meet on Friday mornings at 10:30 am.

Until we Meet Again Dear Volunteers, I am retiring at the end of this year and joining my husband in Seattle, WA. I will miss you, our mission and the good work we do. I have enjoyed working with all of you and am inspired by all you give the community every day. I will miss being a part of such a dynamic team. I cannot imagine a better work experience than to work with such caring individuals. I know that you will keep the center running smoothly while the City recruits a new volunteer coordinator. In the meantime, you may direct any concerns or questions to Kathy Pace, [email protected] 714-374-1520. There will be a Retirement Reception on Tuesday 12/19/17 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parkview Room. Surf City Flags! Brett Siciliano (right) is the master craftsman behind Surf City Flags, a Huntington Beach based company that produces handmade wooden flags in many shapes and sizes. Brett and Bill Cimarusti, who handles sales, approached the Senior Center with a wish to donate a large flag. After looking around the Center, it was decided that the transportation lounge would be the perfect spot for Old Glory. Participants waiting for rides, as well as drivers and volunteers in the transportation program are very impressed with the beauty and craftsmanship of the 5’ flag. Stop by and check it out! If you would like one of your own—or for the perfect gift—visit Brett’s website, SurfCityFlags.com. The prices are affordable for such a unique, Made in America gift. Much thanks for Bill and Brett for thinking of us!
