Dear Friend,

Can you imagine the emotions of a five or six-year-old child who is facing their first Mother’s Day or Father’s Day without the mommy or daddy they lost to cancer? While their school peers are creating art projects to express heartfelt tributes, these children must publicly face the grief of their loss and the feelings of being “different” from their friends. Earlier this year, there was a need for such a grief support program at Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach (CSCRB). We were able to swiftly react to this emergent need by implementing an ongoing support group, fittingly called “The Littles” Grief Group. In our homelike setting and under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals, these boys and girls received age-appropriate therapeutic support to face a major hurdle in the acceptance of their terrible loss. Thanks to generous philanthropic donations, when we identify a new need or trend in our cancer community, we are able to nimbly adapt our programming to ensure that anyone touched by a cancer diagnosis can receive the support and services they need - immediately and without any additional financial burdens or onerous paperwork. CSCRB is commemorating its 30th anniversary as a source of psychosocial support, educational programs and hope, for all cancer patients and their loved ones, ages five and up. Over the past four years, we have increased our programs 25% to meet our community’s growing needs, now offering over 200 programs each month - all FREE OF CHARGE – to over 1,800 individuals annually.

Will you please consider a year-end donation to Cancer Support Community Redondo Beach? As we approach the holiday season, we reflect upon this year and greatly appreciate all of our donors for their ongoing support. Thanks to you, we are here for “The Littles” as they enter this season without a beloved parent, and for all who need us “so that no one faces cancer alone”®.

Gratefully,

Judith K. Opdahl Executive Director/CEO
