In the days immediately following Thanksgiving, The Penn Club magically transforms as we roll out all of the trimmings of the holiday season. With the club abuzz, I love being able to connect & reconnect with members who come into the city for the holidays. Members speak of how we, The Penn Club, are part of their family’s holiday tradition. Recently a member commented to me on how The Club was such a sense of pride for her. This beautiful Club at her disposal on New York City’s esteemed Club House row is a touchstone to stay involved with the University.

I am pleased to note that donations to our Penn Club Employees Fund have been coming in at a steady rate. Since the Penn Club House Rules prohibit tipping, this is your annual opportunity to express your appreciation to the outstanding staff that makes your Penn Club experience so special. Our staff deeply appreciates your thoughtful generosity.

On behalf of the Penn Club family, we wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday.

15th Annual Robert Burns DinnerFriday, January 22nd, Reception 6pm, Dinner 7pm

The Penn Club will honor the spirit of Scottish poet Robert Burns at a traditional celebration of Burns’ birthday. Not for the fainthearted — but certainly not to be missed — the evening will include the parade of the Haggis, accompanied by reading of Burns’ poem “Address to a Haggis”—a mainstay of many Burns dinners. For the uninitiated, Haggis is a Scottish pudding comprised of organ meat, oatmeal and onions, traditionally cooked in a sheep’s stomach, which is ceremonially sliced open with a sword at Burns dinners. It is said to be an acquired taste. Fortunately, the rest of the evening will include a Scottish-inspired menu that would have caused Burns himself to wax poetic. Rest assured that the Penn Club will have enough Scotch whiskey on hand for you to invoke your own poetic impulses. Over the years our Burns Supper has evolved into a mainstay of our Penn Club social calendar, and it is always exciting to welcome both familiar and new faces to our truly unique event. $84++ per person. Includes meal, scotch tasting and bagpipe music. For reservations call Tony Kontos at 212.403.6628 or email [email protected] or RSVP online. Please note there is a 48 hour cancellation policy.
