Fourth Annual
“’Round the Table Sing” Led by Bob Ivey
Wednesday, December 9, 2015
7:30 pm Community Hall
For the past three years led by our own Bob Ivey, Cypress
members have responded enthusiastically to the old English
tradition of gathering around tables and singing the familiar
carols and Christmas songs of the season. In the beautifully decorated
Community Hall on Wednesday, December 9 at 7:30 pm, a delightful
time of singing will be led by Bob at the piano, joined by Brad Clark on
percussion and Doug Burns on bass. Back again will be the Ivey
Handbell Ensemble and the opening handbell procession. The Hall will
resound with songs from Silent Night to White Christmas, and from
Deck the Hall to We Wish You a Merry Christmas. This is an audience
participation program, fun for all who attend as we share in the The
Twelve Days of Christmas, Must Be Santa and the exciting rendition of
Jingle Bells. And who knows, if the singing is good enough, the Chef
may once again surprise us with his famous flaming “figgy pudding!”

“A Dickens of a Christmas” by Professor Elliot Engel
Saturday, December 19, 2015 2:00 pm
Community Hall DVD Run Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
A Dickens of a Christmas brings together
drama, insight, and humor to tell the story of the
influence Charles Dickens has had on our most
celebrated holiday season. Professor Elliot Engel, ably
assisted by the character-portrayal of actress Quinn
Hawkesworth, provides an engrossing and little-known
glimpse into our time-honored Christmas traditions. A
Dickens of a Christmas is a holiday treat for the entire
family, and will provide a deeper understanding of why we
celebrate this season with the symbolism and traditions that we all know and
love. It is filled with humorous and entertaining passages from various
literary works and the dramatic and energized readings by Quinn
Hawkesworth are sure to delight one and all.

Lunch Bunch visits
“Bentley’s on 27th” Thursday, December 17, 2015
Depart at 11:15 am Bring money for lunch
Stunning panoramic views and world-class service
come together on the 27th floor of the Charlotte Plaza
Building at Bentley's Restaurant on 27. Executive Chef,
William Schutz, prepares traditional French dishes, created at
each table by the use of mobile cooking carts known as
gueridons. The gueridon, a mobile cooking cart used in French
tableside service, is rarely seen in dining rooms today. In
response to the casual bistro style, now
ubiquitous in restaurants, Jim Emad, sole
proprietor, wanted to bring some excitement
and theater back to the dining room. Both
private and corporate events are welcomed
as the setting can accommodate both a
romantic dinner for two and a wedding reception of over 300.
With an extensive wine list, Bentley's is ideal for a special
holiday lunch out on the town.

Charlotte Holiday Lights Tour Amelie’s French Bakery
Monday, December 7, 2015 Depart at 7 pm
Bring money for dessert & coffee
Let’s go see the most spectacular Christmas light displays in the
uptown and south Charlotte areas. We have scouted out the best
Christmas lights for 2015 Christmas
season. Some of these displays are
synchronized to Christmas music through the
radio, are put on by regular people at their own
expense and are very creative. It takes an
incredible amount of time and energy to
produce these seriously amazing light displays. We will enjoy driving through
the city streets and neighborhoods making a stop at Amelie’s French Bakery
for some special, sweet treats.
