EARLY YEARS
British author who was born Charles John Huffman Dickens.
Date of Birth: February 7, 1812 in Portsmouth located on the southern
coast of England.
Charles’ mother: Elizabeth Barrow
Charles’ father: John Dickens
In 1816, the family, Charles, his parents, and siblings moved to Chatham,
Kent.
In 1822, they moved to Camden Town in London.
His father was sent to prison in 1824 because of his debt, so Charles had to
work at a boot-blacking factory to help his family.
DICKENS KNOWN FOR
He became a celebrity because he expressed his beliefs
about slavery. People looked up to him and believed what he
said.
He expressed his opinion about the Americans’ in American
Notes and on his second tour, he made the comment that he
wanted to praise the United States.
