SWD Website is Up!

The new Southwest District website was launched on December 26, 2014. This is the first change to the website since 2013, so rather than just updating the old site we took the opportunity to do a complete redesign. The long-term goal for the site is to make it a central place for everyone to access district information, so a lot of the design process was about finding a way to make it easy for people to add and modify content without needing to write any code or go through overly complex technical procedures. In the end I chose to use a content management system called Joomla to make that possible.

One of the site’s primary functions is to make event

registration available, so Taylor and I worked to make sure that DCON registration was one of the first working parts of the website. People

will see it soon when they register for DCON. Other

things people can find on the site now are pages with

information about the district board and an archive

of this year’s Southwest Suns.

I would love to get comments

and input on the website from anyone in the district;

my email address is [email protected].

Bedtime Bags ENMU Service Recognition

Over the past couple of months we have been working on a project called “Bed Time Bags”. For this project we collected money (about $300) as well as donations including books, blankets, toys, coloring books, pillows, and other small things that all fit into a backpack. We assembled the bags at a CKI social, and are planning on giving the bags to children at the Baptist Children’s Home and the Heartly House. We wanted to do this project as a way to give children, especially at the Heartly House, something that is just theirs and can give them the comfort of a warm blanket and maybe something that makes them feel more at home. The whole club worked hard on this project, but the committee heads Rachel Tripp (above) and Christel Hessa (below) really did most of the work and came up with the idea, and are finishing it up over Winter break. If you would like any more details or to know anything else about this project, feel free to contact Rachel Tripp at [email protected].

The 2015 Southwest District Convention is fast approaching! With a Masquerade theme, SWD CKI will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico on February 27th through March 1st. The district will have an opportunity to complete service together, elect new leadership for next fall, and so much more! Please take some time to read the important information about DCON.

Important DCON Information:

• Registration will be $95 until February 11th, after

which it will be $105. There is also an option for guests to attend just lunch or dinner. To register yourself or a guest for DCON, simply follow this link: http://www.swcki.org/events/dcon/dcon-registration-form

• Hotel rooms will cost $99 per night. This means

that if you bring 4 people, the cost will only be $49.50 per person for both nights. Please note that hotel rooms MUST booked by Jan. 26th using the link listed on the registration page, otherwise the price of the room becomes full price, and not the discounted CKI rate.

• Potential district candidates can access their

candidate packet by following the link below. Keep in mind you will need to be sending these things to Taylor Engleman (see pg. 11 for contact info).

• For clubs eligible and seeking awards, the award

packet should be downloaded, completed, and brought to the convention. Be sure to start early on these as they require multiple signatures!

packet: http://www.swcki.org/events/dcon

Hello southwest district and welcome to 2015!

Thank you as always for taking the time to read our publication and for staying informed about what's happening in our district. 2014 was a

great year for CKI. We have a wonderful board that is working hard for the district and fantastic clubs with members who are dedicated to the advancement and betterment of the world. I am beyond proud to say I am a part of such a wonderful organization full of dedicated members

who sacrifice their time to help others. This year is just another opportunity to show what we can do! I look forward to seeing many of

you at district convention where we will celebrate all our accomplishments. Continuously recruit and good luck with the year

ahead!

Yours in service, leadership, and friendship, Katie Merrill

Members of the Month

NAU: Banna Tesfy Banna’s service hours constituted ALL of the service hours for NAU in December! Great job Banna!

GCU: Hanna Culver As a freshman and new time member, Hanna has worked very hard to become GCU’s best secretary so far! She works extremely hard to complete her officer duties, attend all meetings, and still be involved in our service projects. Thank you for everything you do Hanna!
