Year of St. Joseph - On the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Pope Francis announced a Year of St. Joseph in honor of the 150th anniversary of the saint’s proclamation as patron of the Universal Church. The year began December 8, 2020, and concludes on December 8, 2021, according to a decree authorized by the pope. The decree said that Pope Francis had established a Year of St. Joseph so that “every member of the faithful, following his example, may strengthen their life of faith daily in the complete fulfillment of God’s will.” It added that the pope had granted special indulgences to mark the year. In addition to the decree, Pope Francis issued an apostolic letter entitled Patris corde ("With a father's heart") dedicated to the foster father of Jesus. To read the apostolic letter, go to vatican.va/content/vatican/en.html and click on "Apostolic Letters."     CATHEDRAL ANNOUNCEMENTSIn today’s Gospel John the Baptist says, “I am the voice of one crying in the desert; make straight the way of the Lord.” Let us ask for the grace to help others to know the love of the Lord. Christmas is a time of love and gift giving…please give to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that the poor and lonely in our community can share in the blessings of Christmas. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will have only one meeting in December which will be held Tuesday, December 15 at 5:45 PM in the Cathedral lower level. If you are interested in joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, please feel welcome to attend this meeting.

    The Retirement Fund for Religious Collection is this weekend, December 12 and 13. This fund helps to provide prescription medications, nursing care, and more for thousands of elderly religious. Envelopes are located at each entrance. Please take one home, enclose your gift, and deposit in the collection basket or one of the drop boxes next weekend. Thank you!

    Designated Mask-Only Areas: We have two dedicated spaces during certain weekend Masses for those who desire to be seated in a mask-only area of the church. The adoration chapel (located adjacent to the sanctuary) and the cafeteria are designated as mask-required areas during the Saturday 5:00 PM and Sunday 8:00 AM Masses. As is our practice, a priest or deacon will bring Holy Communion to these areas.
