Fall Timeline

Do a Graduation Check –make sure you have all the courses you need to meet graduation requirements

Apply for a social insurance number if you do not already have one

Begin your personal file: reference letters, personal letters, resume, copies of all documents, etc. (note: students new to Canada require certified copies of immigration papers for post-secondary applications)

Book an appointment with Career Resource Facilitator, Ms. Moorhouse if you need help with applying

EAL students: register to write the TOEFL EXAM if you have been in an English speaking country for less than3-4years; check each post-secondary institution for their English language requirements and second language requirements.

for local awards and scholarships. Ensure you have everything in order for Grad Transitions

12(DO NOT leave it until the last minute!!!)

APRIL Let the office know of any changes in your address Semester 2 midterm marks and semester 1 final marks are

electronically transferred to post-secondary institutions; offers of admission are made in April/May

If your are taking an online course via COL, 50% of the course must be completed by April 1st for Universities to consider it for admission purposes (note:UBC’s policy differs- deadline is end of Sem I )

Quantitative Placement Test recommended to be taken within the first semester;

OR 60-69% in in the applicable Math course plus

direct registration in Foundations of Analytical and Quantitative Reasoning (FAN X99).

For the grade to be used in the calculation of the UBC admission average, all Grade 12 courses must be completed by February 1.

If the course is in progress after February 1 (i.e. in second semester) the final grade from an equivalent Grade 11 course may be used as a substitute

2016 Self-Reporting

Self Reporting for UBC will need to be done between March 2, 2016 to April 7, 2016. Self-reporting is mandatory .

You must use the following for self-reporting:A. Unofficial transcript of grades -from your Student Secure Web

(BC Ministry of Education Website)

B. Most recent high school report card If you attend a semester school you will use your Semester 1 report card. It may not show which courses you are taking in your second semester, so

list your Semester 2 courses as “interim,” with no grades associated with them.

UBC encourages semester students to self-report by March 16.

University of Toronto’s Policy on Repeated Courses:

Individual programs at U of T reserve the right to give preference to students whose marks are the result of a first attempt at each course, particularly in prerequisite subjects

Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering generally consider first attempts ONLY.

Rotman Commerce Program will ONLY consider the first attempt in all courses.

English Language Requirement If English is your first language- you must complete English 12 If English is not your first language but you have studied here for 4

or more years you must include complete English 12 If you have studies in Canada for less than 4 years you must present

proof of English facility (eg. TOEFL, IELTS)

English Course Requirement If you are required to present proof of English facility based on the

above criteria, you may present a different academic Grade 12 course in place of English.

If you are required to present proof of English facility, yet you complete Grade 12 English as an extra credit, we would include your English mark in the admission average only if this improves your average.

Specific Intake Program (Technology): Academic – different high school course requirements for each program (some programs require some post secondary) Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee you a seat in a competitive program Applications accepted until program seats are filled

Continual Intake Program (Trades Foundation & Technical): Must have completed the minimum admission requirements for first available seat (will be put on a waiting list – Electrical Trades has a 2 year waitlist! Check length of waitlist by contacting BCIT.)

It is important that all Grade 12 Students planning to attend a post-secondary institution after graduation must complete this document online

Students' PSI selections must be submitted by April 30th for Interim transcript information to be forwarded to BC and Ontario Universities Application Centre.

  The PSI Selection form is now available online for students graduating

this year. Students can access this online form by logging into the student secure Web site.
