School Prayer Families We believe in the power of prayer! Because we know that prayer can impact lives and

families, each week we choose different families to pray for. This week we are praying for

the Arboleda, Englebert, and Loughrin families.

Fourth and Fifth Grade Band Concert

The band concert was a great success and the students sounded wonderful. A big

thank you to Mr. Sawall for his work to make this event possible. If you were not able

Christmas Concert DVD

If you would like to order a DVD of the Christmas concert, we do have order forms in

the office. Viva La Video will fill additional orders as needed. However, orders that

were placed after the 18th of December may be filled after Christmas break.

Out of Uniform Passes

If you ordered an out of uniform pass and asked for it to be sent home with your child,

it will be in a sealed envelope in their backpack. All other orders can be picked up in

the office. We do have extra passes available if you would like to order one and pick it

up before Christmas.

Winter Escape Challenge

Your child came home with a sticker on Monday about our challenge for Winter

Escape. It is our biggest fundraiser and allows us to provide students with additional

tools, such as technology, in the classroom. If 80 tickets are sold by January 8th, all students will receive an out of uniform day …. we will even allow leggings on that day.

Help us meet our goal and invite family, friends and neighbors.

Legacy Families

Our school has been graced with multiple generations of families. We would like to

invite all of those families to be recognized at Winter Escape on January 25th. Please

fill out the attached form if your family has been a part of SMCS for 3 or more

generations. Please share this form with other families as well so that no one is

missed.

Enrichment Update

2nd Semester Enrichment classes start Wednesday, January 3. Registration is

now open and the Semester 2 schedule is posted on the SMCS Enrichment

Webpage. New this session are “Boosting your Brain Power” taught by Dr. Richard

Klamm, Magic – Transforming the Ordinary into the Extraordinary, Nerf Club, a

Parent Child Hip Hop class and NEW STEM classes that include: Club Invention at all 3

campuses, Wonder Workshop Robotics and a Drone Workshop. We are proud to

announce that we are now a Let Me Run site! Let me Run is a 7 week program for

boys similar to Girls on the Run program.

The curriculum addresses physical, mental and emotional health for boys in Grade 4-6 and uses running as part of the

Classroom Highlights

Students have been practicing object control skills in phy. ed. class. They have practiced catching, throwing, kicking,

punting, & dribbling a variety of objects such as different types and size balls, bean bags, & Frisbees) while aiming at

different types of targets (pins, crates, wall targets, hula huts, and more). Additionally, they have been introduced to several

game activities in which they were able to put these skills into practice. A game the students seem to really enjoy was the

Rock, Paper, Scissor Showdown. Students jump through hoops until they meet up with another student at which point they

do a rock, paper, scissor battle. The student who wins the battle continues down the path of hoops trying to reach the

opposite end. If the battle was lost the student returns to their team and another student begins down the path of hoops.

St. Mary Grade School is celebrating 150 years!
