Dear Parents and Carers, 1 st November 2019 (8) We hope all of our Eversley parents and children celebrating Diwali had a wonderful few days. I would like to thank Prafulla for organising the Diwali coffee morning, where parents and children were able to come and share food, traditions and take part in art work. Thank you to our governors who attended and enjoyed the celebrations. Halloween Cake Sale I hope everyone enjoyed their Halloween cakes. Thank you to EPSA for organising another successful event. All the parents/carers involved do this role voluntarily and work hard to help raise money for our pupils. As a result, pupils are provided with resources that the school is currently unable to fund. Makaton Lucy and Yesim will be sharing 2 signs each week during Monday assembly. Please encourage your child/children to use them at home, so we can communicate with non-verbal children and adults. General Election The London Borough of Enfield has advised us that they will be using Eversley Primary School as a polling station on the 12 th December 2019 for a General Election. We have been informed that as a Local Authority School we are legally obliged to allow the use of our premises as a polling station. Once again, we have expressed the huge disruption this causes to the school day and to families. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. Eversley Finance Committee The Finance Committee have been working hard this week writing letters to companies asking if they are able to donate food products to support them setting up a ‘Tuck Shop.’ Isaac (5E) wrote a great letter to McVitie who have already responded.

Thank you very much for your letter. You mentioned that you needed our help so, here we are!

We will be sending you 700 packets of Gingerbread Men to make sure you all get one and to help raise lots of money for your school.

We hope you enjoy them and good luck with your tuck shop!

Yours sincerely

'Mr McVitie' 🍪 We would also like to congratulate Aleyna (4G) and Andrew (3P) who wrote lovely letters to Sainsburys in Highlands Village. We have received an email response from Sainsburys confirming that they are happy to help contribute to the schools tuck shop and help promote healthy living. They have kindly provided us with a £15 gift card towards purchasing packets of mini breadsticks. Well done to the Finance Committee! Safeguarding Video sharing Musical.ly is becoming more popular with children sharing videos online. Please be aware of the following dangers.

Apps such as Musical.ly and YouTube let you create and upload short videos.

You can choose to lip-sync, perform dance routines, sing, or show off other talents. People who see your videos can also like, comment on, or share them.

What are the risks for your child?

o they could receive nasty or negative comments from other users

o they won't have control over who see's it. It could end up being shared via other social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp

o they may hear explicit language or see adult content from videos other people have shared.

Please remember to check which apps your children are accessing and make sure the stay safe online. I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the fireworks! Best wishes, Samantha Williams Headteacher

Our value of the month is Friendship

This month’s artwork is by Indian artist Jiaur Rahman. It is one of a series of paintings entitled ‘Friendship’. Jiaur Rahman's painting shows the spirit of friendship in a very colourful way. The contrast of the background in a brick red with the bright yellow and blue worn by the children is very powerful. Friendship quotes; poets unknown:

F.R.I.E.N.D.S Fight for you Respect you

Include you

Encourage you

Need you

Deserve you

Stand by you

Friendship isn’t how you forget but how you forgive. Not how you listen but how you understand. Not how you see but how you feel. Not how you let go but how you hold on. (Mrs Whitehouse)

Music Lessons with Enfield Music Service

Would you like your child to learn a musical instrument in school? We can offer lessons to children from Year 2 and above. The deadline for applying is Friday 8th November. Applications can be made via the Enfield Council website or alternatively forms are available from the school office.

For those already having lessons, it is time to renew payment to continue lessons in the Spring term.

Year 4 Forest School This week Year 4 began their Forest School journey, by firstly exploring our new Forest School site. They learnt about the importance of supporting each other, staying safe and having lots of FUN! The focus was Autumn fruits and specifically pumpkins and squashes. The children discussed the many different ways to use and celebrate pumpkins aside from Halloween traditions. Some children made a delicious pumpkin soup, which many of the children

tasted. Other children built the fire on which to cook the soup. Some children created unique pumpkin bird feeders. We look forward to more adventures next week Year 4! Please don’t forget your wellies and your coat.

** Date Change

One of the areas the school is working hard to improve is the attendance of children at Eversley Primary School. The United Nation Convention on the rights of the child entitles them to a Right to Education (Article 28). If the attendance drops below 95%, this could potentially affect any future Ofsted judgement, as well as children missing vital learning which reduces their chances of success. Please help us to continue the upward trend by ensuring your child comes to school every day and on time.

The overall school attendance to date is 97.62%
