I hope that you all enjoyed a restful term break and are ready to tackle term 3.

GYMNASTICS MCC Holiday Program

A Helping Hand!

e [email protected] www.mordialloccommunitycentre.com.au Mordialloc Community Centre Inc. 115A Warren Road, Mordialloc Ph 9580 3675

During our July school holiday Program the kids were very busy! We took on the “Minute to Win it Challenge”, getting to eat yummy donuts in under a minute with no hands! We baked delicious goodies such as cupcakes decorated like fish and choc chip cookies. The kids learnt all about our Australian wildlife animals and got to pet a real dingo and hold a python!! We joined the circus and gained some new circus skills like acrobatics and juggling.

We can’t wait until the next school holidays! For some more awesome and new activities!

Term 2 at MCC gymnastics has been going along smoothly with all classes at capacity. Our level 3’s attended the Judges Invite competition in early June. Placing 3rd on Vault and bars with 4th place overall! Our level 3, 4 and 5 girls have multiple competitions coming up in term 3, and have been training really hard in preparation.

Our junior coaches Chanelle, Giulua and Tara completed their beginner coaching course in early June as well as Bec and Laura completing their intermediate coaching course. Congratulations on your achievements.

Coming up in term 3 we have plenty of competitions and a disco fundraiser for all our gymnasts to attend. Stay tuned!

DANCE NEWS

MCC Panthers

Please email Jess McKenna with any enquiries you have regarding netball at [email protected] PANTHERS!!!

Please email Jess McKenna with enquiries you have regarding basketball at [email protected]

Welcome back to dance for Term 3! On Thursday 6th July, many of our Junior, Inter C, Inter B, Inter A, Senior and Advanced level students participated in our MDS Winter Workshops. This was a sensational day where students participated in strength and conditioning, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, ballet and acrobatic workshops, taught by current teachers; Jess Cogley, Nicole Kelly, Sophie Sheppard and Maddy Smith, as well as special guests; Nadia Tornese and Jodie Thornton.

Many students participated in new styles and developed new skills. We were very impressed with our students enthusiasm and hard work – all students left the day feeling inspired, excited and exhausted. This will certainly be the first of many workshop days to come.

Our Under 15 Elite students will be performing at the charity event DanceAid on Sunday 21st July – this event brings together studios from across Melbourne who will be performing to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation. The MCC has been proud to support this event over the past 3 years.

The remainder of Term 3 will be a very busy one – with concert preparation, plenty of costumes and dance competitions.

Keep working hard MDS dancers xx

The Mordy Flyers School Holiday Clinic was a great success with a huge turnout of players who came along to work on their skills!

Mordy Flyers was “Club of the Week” at SBA’s NBL1 Game on Sunday 21st July. We had a great number of players representing Mordy Flyers by taking part in both half time matches, shooting comps and pre-game introductions for the Men’s Team and Women’s Team.

Our main annual fundraiser is this Saturday Night. We have booked in Allan McLean Hall in Mordialloc and will hold our club Trivia Night there to raise funds and celebrate the Mordy Flyers Basketball Club.

We are half way through our Winter Season and all teams are travelling brilliantly! Finals weekend will take place in September Semi Finals will begin on 7th of September! Grand Final Weekend will take place over the 14th & 15th of September! GO FLYERS!

Panthers would like to welcome all new players and families to the club and welcome back all existing Panthers!!

Season 2 is underway and our NSG Diamonds won their VERY FIRST EVER game on Saturday!!!

What a great way to kick of the Season! Good luck to all Panthers Teams for Season 2, we look forward to another successful season.

We had a successful holiday skills clinic, ran by Mel Quigley and assisted by Leah Hale, Tara Shimmin and RachelIsles. This was a great turn out of players, as youcan see, and a special guest player/coachto pass on some knowledge to the playersSam Silvester (Player - Wilson Storage Southern Saints / Mentor/Coach - Inspire Sports Group).

Smiling faces at our MDS Winter Workshops

Here at MCC we have a wonderful contingent of senior members who love to stay active both physically and socially. MCC is proud to offer a range of programs that meet the needs of our senior community members.

Our amazing bike riding crew turned 7 this year! A fantastic achievement and we are grateful to our team of bike riding leaders that support this amazing group.

Our bus trip program has proven to be very popular with full coach loads of seniors spending delightful days visiting the many wonderful sites of Melbourne. Last term some of those trips have included a Christmas in July celebration at Fortnum’s in Sassafras and a tour of the beautiful Beluera House and gardens in Mornington. If you are keen to get notifications on our upcoming trips please email Kathy at MCC to be added to the email list.

Our Mordi Munch Christmas in July Lunch was held on July 10th with 65 seniors enjoying a fabulous traditional Christmas dinner followed of course with Christmas pudding. “Putting on the Ritz” entertained our guests with lively fun songs to sing and dance to. Thanks to our team of amazing volunteers for supporting this program we could not do it without you!

Our Gymnastics Victoria affiliated Fitter for Life seniors program pilot in term 3 was a huge success and we are delighted to be able to offer this program on going to our active senior members. This class which runs on a Thursday morning in term 3 aims to improve mobility, strength, balance, coordination and flexibility in a fun, social and welcoming environment. Thanks to our coach Gayle for providing this valuable opportunity to our seniors!

MCC is so lucky to have over 100 volunteers helping us out at any one time. We admire the dedication and passion of these wonderful people and acknowledge the work they doing in helping to make our centre great.
