ST. MARY’S CHURCH PARIS, IL www.stmaryschurchparis.org October 8, 2017 TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Dear friends,

This month we remember with great love and devotion our Holy Mother of Fatima. This

month on the thirteenth is the 100th anniversary of the greatest miracle of modern times.

Along with our Lord's resurrection the miracle of the sun was an event that was

prophesied at a designated time and place for all people to witness. Over 70,000 people

came on that day and many were healed and converted.

Later our Lady revealed to Sr. Lucia that our Lord wished in these last days to reveal the

devotion to the heart of His immaculate mother. She promised her special protection to

those who faithfully prayed the rosary every day, wore the brown scapular, and

consecrated themselves to her Immaculate Heart. Lucia said that our Lady revealed to her

that,

"There is no problem too great that it cannot be solved by praying the rosary."

As we celebrate this, "month of the rosary," let us renew our commitment to our mother

by daily reciting this prayer. She promised the conversion of many sinners through this

devotion. And our Lord and Lady have both revealed that the prayers for the conversion of

sinners are the prayers that please them the most and consoles their united hearts. May

our Holy Mother lead us all closer to the heart of her son, Jesus.

May God give you peace,

October is Respect Life Month. We will be praying the rosary before Mass on Saturday & Sunday to end abortion. Please come a little early & join in this prayer.

24 HOUR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION St. Mary’s Church

Every Tuesday starting at 3pm and ending on Wednesday at 3pm.

Everyone is invited to spend some quiet time with the Lord anytime during these 24 hours.

Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Vineyard and Cornerstone. The Bible stories today are pretty straightforward. We are the vineyard – the owner is God. The cornerstone is Jesus – we are the build-ing. What does it mean to be the cherished plant – to be watered and pruned and hoed by God? What does it mean to be laid brick by brick on the one and sure founda-tion of Christ Jesus?

How will I be fruitful, be generous, be good? How will I stay attached to Jesus? How will I cherish my chosen place on vine and in building?

Word of Life

“The knowledge and realization of how deeply we are loved by God elicits a response of love that simultaneously draws us closer to God and at the same time impels us to share his love.”

USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities “How to Build a Culture of Life,”

At the time that she confided the Fatima Secret to the three seers, the Blessed Virgin also promised that God would work a great

miracle the following October "so that all may believe." On October 13 1917, a miracle was worked in the sky above Fatima at the

exact moment and in the precise spot that the children had announced earlier. Witnesses recounted that the sun appeared to actual-

ly "dance" in the sky and seemed to fall to the ground before resuming its normal place in the heavens.

This event has now become known as "The Miracle of the Sun" and has been justly characterized as the greatest supernatural oc-

currence of the 20th Century.

In the years since the Queen of Heaven’s appearance at Fatima, innumerable books, pamphlets, recordings, films and video pro-

grams have been produced as part of a growing worldwide movement of faith and devotion. Many theologians believe that Our La-

dy’s message is uniquely designed for the difficult and trying times in which we live today and suggest that it is Heaven’s interven-

tion to save the world from war, hunger and need; the Catholic Church from apostasy and chaos; and the souls of countless millions

from eternal damnation. While stern in its warning of the terrible punishments for sin and disobedience, Fatima remains funda-

mentally a life-affirming and faith-building message of hope and peace for all Catholics and others of good will everywhere.

“Only I can help you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.”
