RADIO CONTROL PIONEERS WALT GOOD AND BILL GOOD
BOTH WERE MEMBERS OF THE DCRC CLUB
Their historic R/C model airplane, which they affectionately named the “Guff,” was
presented to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., in May, 1960,
where it can be seen today. Both brothers continued their education and subsequently
earned doctorates in physics. After pursuing careers in electronics research and teach-
ing, they retired, but they’re still very active in electronics.

fill their plates with turkey, dressing,
mashed potatoes and veggies. A truly
wonderful repast! The membership ex-
pressed its appreciation with a resounding

About 3-4 months ago Roy
Day called me to ask if I wanted to
finish a model of an airplane dear
to him, that had been on the draw-
ing board for a few years, and he
had a partially built prototype.
Of course I said yes, and that I
would finish it by Christmas... a
considerable challenge considering
that I had not built anything of sig-
nificance since 2014, when I lost
my capacity to see from my left
eye.
As you can see from the "before
and after" pictures, the Bellanca Jr.
came together nicely, and not only
was I able to help a friend com-
plete a project, but helped me re-
gain confidence in building and
return once again to my favorite
hobby.
I was planning to do the usual
"show & tell", but I also asked
Roy, and he agreed, to come to the
meeting on January 20th and talk
to us about his motivations and
dreams not just about this model
but also from the standpoint of a
NASA Engineer with a quite a sig-
nificant airplane modeling back-
ground.
We only ask for 15-20 minutes...
and although some think that "no
one builds anymore," I can assure
you that some still have the heart...
the audience will not be disap-
pointed.
Regards,
Gus
