AIM systemsLong supported by standards
› DIN EN 50667 Based on ISO/IEC 18598
Information technology – Automated infrastructure management (AIM) systems
Specifies the minimum functionality for an AIM system to enable data exchange with other
systems or to integrate an AIM system with other systems.
› DIN EN 50174-1 Information technology – Cabling installation – Part 1
Installation specification and quality assurance specifies the functional scope of an AIM system
and recommends its deployment in data centers with over 100 connections and generally
for regional or branch offices.
› DIN EN 50600-2-4 Information technology – Data center facilities and infrastructures – Part 2–4:
Telecommunications cabling infrastructure.
Recommendation: an AIM system increases availability in data centers (chapter 11)
› ISO/IEC 14763-2 Automatic monitoring and management of patch connections in data centers
with over 100 connections
There is now a supplement to ANSI/TIA-606-B regarding specifications
for the basic functionality required when using an AIM system.

LEONI DCpatch means■ Security■ Cost optimization■ Real-time documentation ■ Structured, calculable processes ■ Optimum capacity utilization of resources
New challenges are now faced on a continual basis as part of
digitalization, efficient energy and data management, smart
cities, and the Internet of Things.
DCpatch – the modular AIM system– developed with intelligent software from LEONI
For successful and dynamic companies, a high degree of flexibility
and security in their IT infrastructure is a must-have. The greater
the performance offered by a data network, the more complex
its infrastructure and the corresponding modules in the various
network cabinets and switches.
Frequent changes to the network often lead to unintended
errors or oversights in the documentation.
Due to time pressure or capacity bottlenecks, changes may
be executed with errors or not in full. At the time of the next
change, these errors can lead to downtime, since the wrong
assumptions are made and the wrong ports addressed.
With its intelligent software and modern, modular RFID
technology, DCpatch gives you all of the following:
›Peace of mind›Put an end to manual data entry
This leads to a wide range of errors that can cause downtime
in the future. As a result of a lack of concentration, distractions,
stress, and personnel churn, error rates of 10 to 15 percent or
more have been identified.
›Every port is monitored
No-one can patch in unnoticed and “eavesdrop” failed connec-
tions are detected and reported immediately, also offering extra
security. Experience shows us that up to 10 percent of downtime
is due to incorrect backplane work.
›Cost optimization – time is moneyPlanning and modifications to rack units and network infrastruc-
ture can be executed quickly and efficiently. With assemblies
and active components (Visio shapes) already configured and
present in the database, changes can be implemented as
a simple, rapid process. Once configured, assemblies and active
components are stored in a database, and can be reused at any
time for new planning work and ongoing modifications.
›Efficiency with real-time documentationNetwork modification or expansion work can be planned
once and then implemented straight away.
Integrated asset management functionality helps with the
checking and procurement of required materials (patch cables,
assemblies, active components, etc.). Time-consuming docu-
mentation edits are a thing of the past – and no longer a source
of errors. Execution times can be drastically reduced, offering
potential savings of as much as 30 percent.
› Structured, easily costed processesPopulation charts for panels and active components plus
data-rich diagrams and reports give administrators an accurate
picture of their networks. Integrated asset management
functionality offers a full overview of stock levels and port
assignments, while supporting administrators in their work to
procure missing materials and services.
Visualization in the data center– brings transparency to documentation
The DCpatch software includes two important software
modules:
› DCpatch – patch management tool■ End-to-end visualisation of all connected patches■ Automatic routing■ Automatically generated patch job list■ Definition, selection, and documentation of the right
patch cable type■ Export of patch list to Microsoft Excel worksheet■ Automatic module detection
› DCpatch – Visio shapes Straightforward data network and rack component
management■ Large, pre-installed symbol library■ Each component is preconfigured with useful and
appropriate parameters■ Built-in editor for the creation of user-defined components■ Easy options for importing and exporting Visio shapes
■ True-to-scale floor plans based on CAD drawings■ Real-time interaction with CAD tools■ Dynamic calculation and colour coding based on
user-defined criteria, e.g.:
› Unused copper or optical fiber ports per panel, enclosure,
corridor, room, building, etc.
› Unused and contiguous units per enclosure
› Occupancy based on user-defined criteria■ Planning mode: What-if analysis

DCpatch – a retrofit option without any downtime
One of the most important features of DCpatch is the ability to
retrofit without taking systems offline. This is why LEONI has also
designed the assemblies (racks, modules, antennas, and antenna
modules, plus clips for the transponder fiber optic and copper
patch cables) so they can also be hot-swapped without the need
for any downtime.
From an entry-level introduction to AIM systems with
AIM-ready to a full rollout, planners and users can choose
from three iteration levels that build on one another:
› DCpatch ready Deployment of assemblies and modules designed specifically
for retrofitting enables the subsequent hot-swapping of
electronics (bus cables) and antenna modules.
››DCpatch basic
Comprises the assemblies and modules from DCpatch ready, the
antenna modules and bus cables, the clips for the transponders,
the controller unit (control system and monitoring), and their
configuration software.
›››DCpatch full
Consists of DCpatch basic plus an integrated AIM software suite.
This software includes several modules that offer the user a
wide range of benefits in relation to processes and security:■ Process are optimized ■ Each process step has an audit trail ■ Outages are shown immediately■ Documentation is updated in real time■ Work orders can be planned and monitored■ Resources (unused ports, unused connections, etc.)
become immediately visible
In practice:
The greater the performance offered by a data network, the
more complex its infrastructure and the corresponding modules
in the various network cabinets and switches.
Frequent changes to the network often lead to unintended
errors or oversights in the documentation. Due to time pressure
or capacity bottlenecks, changes may be executed with errors
or not in full. At the time of the next change, these errors can
lead to downtime, since the wrong assumptions are made and
the wrong ports addressed.
› Which connections have been changed?› Is the documentation up-to-date?› What happens if I pull the wrong port?
To give users the peace of mind that they require while
also offering even greater flexibility by using a
modular structure, LEONI has developed the
innovative DCpatch AIM system, which is
based on the modular DClink system already
in use in many data centers.
This extensive AIM system can do a
lot more than simple network monitoring:
it closes and monitors the current security hole
between active and passive network components
– just as is required by the German IT Security Act.

Planning mode and work ordersDirect implementation is quick and effective
The planner or user has the option of using planning mode
to complete planning and changes, and then to generate
the corresponding work orders directly from the system.
■ Planning mode can be applied to all types of objects
and procedures■ Each change made in planning mode automatically creates
a work order■ Continuous monitoring of work order statuses

Protects critical infrastructure in network systemsThe 2nd German IT Security Act (2019) demands greater security while expanding its scope
www.leoni-data.com
9 DCpatch
Data security and process reliability are now top priorities
for many companies. In Germany, lawmakers also saw
the need to take action – which is why the Bundestag
proceeded to pass its IT Security Act in 2015. In 2019, the
provisions of the existing IT Security Act were tightened
up and expanded to cover more areas.
The amended Act of 2019 was adopted to increase the security
of IT systems and was aimed in particular at operators of critical
infrastructure:
■ Digital service providers
(online shops, electronic payment services, …)■ Energy (energy suppliers, power station operators …)■ Public drinking water and sewage disposal utilities■ IT and ICT
(telecommunications providers …)■ Financial institutions and insurers
(banks, building societies, insurance companies …)■ Transport and logistics
(aviation, maritime shipping, rail, freight forwarders …)■ Food, health and nutrition
(hospitals, the food supply chain …)■ Government and administration (parliament, courts,
disaster control agencies, etc.)■ Media and the arts (TV, radio, cultural heritage, etc.)
The IT Security Act requires these organizations to maintain a
minimum level of IT security. To do so, suitable technical and
organizational measures must be implemented and docu-
mented. The Act also makes it mandatory to deploy an Informa-
tion Security Management System.
The IT Security Act requires the use of organizational and techni-
cal measures that reflect the latest technical standards. The basis
for this technical state of the art is formed by numerous national
and international standards, such as those from the DIN, ISO,
DKE or ISO/IEC standards series.
