For over 135 years, David C Cook

has embraced new and creative

ways to communicate the un-

changing truth of God’s Word. As

we look forward to the 2012 spring

season, we are thrilled about what

God is doing through our newest

line of resources.

Perhaps the clearest reflection of

our heart for today’s generation

is our thriving line of V Books.

For the first time ever, our catalog

has a separate section for video

resources that communicate the hope of

Christ in creative, life-changing ways. These beautifully

produced films include the final video in the seven-part

BASIC short film series featuring New York Times best-

selling author Francis Chan. Titled BASIC Communion,

this video continues Chan’s profound look at what God

envisions church to be.

We’re also pleased to launch visionary leader and

communicator Erwin McManus’s film series Signs.

The first in this five-part series explores the newness

and wonder that God promises through the metaphor

of earth. Finally, Ed Dobson’s video series Ed’s Story

concludes with Grateful and Healing. An honest look at

what it means to turn a life-threatening disease into a

life-giving journey, these remarkable films give hope to

anyone who is struggling through difficult circumstances.

In addition to our video resources, our new releases

include can’t-put-it-down fiction from Travis Thrasher

and Kathy Herman. Our best-selling The Toddler’s

Bible and Someone I Love Died, two great children’s

resources, get a fresh look with all-new art and design.

Lastly we introduce the heartwarming books To My

Sons and Never Stop Holding Hands by adventurer

Bear Grylls and his wife, Shara.

As you can see, we are releasing resources from new

voices speaking timeless truths and seasoned voices

speaking in new ways. One thing that hasn’t changed is

David C Cook’s commitment to letting God’s Word shine

through our books, curriculum, visual media, and music.

May the season ahead bring fresh life to your soul as you

look toward the new things that God is ready to do

through you.

ERASING HELLWhat God Said About Eternity, and the Things We’ve Made Up

FrAnCiS ChAn And PrESTOn SPrinKlE

In this respectful response to the recent media storm, Francis Chan and Preston Sprinkle address the deepest questions readers have about eternal destiny. Does God’s love mean there is no hell? Will people have a chance after they die to believe in Jesus and go to heaven? What if I just don’t want to believe in hell?

Erasing Hell is not a book about who is saying what. It’s a book about what God says. It’s not a book about theological issues. It’s a book about people’s eternal destinies. It’s not a book about being “right.” It’s a book about the character of God. This is a rich opportunity for readers to let God’s Word answer their questions as they embrace the truth.

T h E A U T h O r SA pastor, international speaker, and church planter, Francis Chan is the author of Crazy Love, which has sold 1.6 million copies, and Forgotten God. Chan is also on the board of World Impact and Children’s Hunger Fund.

With a PhD in New Testament, Preston Sprinkle is a professor and writer. Chan and Sprinkle live with their families in California.

FrAnCiS ChAn WiTh MArK BEUvinG

Chan’s new thoughts and reflections on God’s love in Living Crazy Love will help readers embrace God’s intense, relentless love and watch that love transform every aspect of their being. This ten-week in-depth study of God’s character can stand alone or be used as a companion to Crazy Love. Designed for individuals or small-groups, this study includes weekend retreat options and tips for small-group leaders.

However readers choose to use this book, Francis Chan’s thought-provoking teaching will help them pursue God as they never have before, digging deep into their thoughts and beliefs about the love of God and how that love should impact their lives. Readers will discover a dynamic, effective tool for developing leadership skills, all built on the solid foundation of God’s Word.

T h E A U T h O rDr. Hans Finzel is an author, consultant, and expert in the field of leadership. He is the president and CEO of WorldVenture, an international leadership development organization. THE JESUS LIFEEight Ways to rediscover Authentic Christianity

STEPhEn W. SMiTh

In his follow-up to The Lazarus Life, author Stephen W. Smith encourages believers to wholly embrace authentic Christianity.

Aspiring to live daily like Christ is no easy feat. Believers are surrounded by a loud, chaotic culture that is the very opposite of such a life. To walk in the way of Jesus, readers must intentionally choose to not walk in the ways of the world. Featuring a distinct, fresh voice, The Jesus Life shares how Christians have lost their way; how to reconnect with core values such as community, family, and quiet living; and how they can take a proactive approach in personal ministry. Each chapter features an enhanced study guide, which can be used in small group, class, or personal study.

T h E A U T h O rStephen W. Smith is the co-founder and spiritual director of Potter’s Inn, a ministry devoted to spiritual formation and the care of the soul. He is the author of six books, including The Lazarus Life, Living the Lazarus Life, Soul Custody, and Soul Shaping. Stephen and his wife, Gwen, reside in Colorado.

TAMMy MAlTBy WiTh AnnE ChriSTiAn BUChAnAn

For anyone who feels invisible, or unappreciated, here’s an invitation to rediscover the biblical God who sees them.

Tammy Maltby wants women to know their lives matter. She invites readers to explore the real-life implications of knowing God sees them, loves them passionately, and is intimately involved with every aspect of their lives. And He wants them to see Him and to partner with Him in bringing about His kingdom. When women take this reality to heart, they live more honestly, confidently, and fearlessly—because everything looks different once they really see the God who sees them.

T h E A U T h O rTammy Maltby’s multifaceted ministry can be summed up in one word: encouragement. Through her books, speaking events, and broadcasts, this Emmy-winning TV cohost encourages women to live more beautifully and transparently. THE APOSTLEA life of Paul

JOhn POllOCK

The drama of a novel meets biblical scholarship in Christian biographer John Pollock’s classic work about one of the most transformative persons in history: the apostle Paul.

The Apostle masterfully combines careful adherence to biblical text, detailed research, and a storyteller’s gift to create a book equally relevant for both casual readers fascinated by Paul’s life and serious biblical scholars. Pollock begins his fast-moving narrative with Stephen’s death and follows Paul through his conversion, missionary journeys, and eventual execution. Many will enjoy it simply as a satisfying and insightful true-life story, although maps and a study guide allow for deeper exploration. The Apostle was originally published in 1969, and this new edition marks the first significant revision for many years.

T h E A U T h O rJohn Pollock is one of today’s preeminent Christian biographers. Over four million copies of his books have been sold in English alone, works that cover the lives of Hudson Taylor, William Wilberforce, and John Wesley. He also wrote The Master: A Life of Jesus. He serves as Billy Graham’s official biographer. John and his wife, Anne, have traveled widely in many parts of the world for the purposes of research. They live in the southwest of England, where they love to walk both mountain and moor.

THE SILENT SHEPHERDThe Care, Comfort, and Correction of the holy Spirit

JOhn MACArThUr, Jr.The Holy Spirit’s role in the Christian life is often misunderstood. Some believers focus solely on spiritual gifts, while others avoid the subject altogether. Yet the truth is that the Holy Spirit is indispensable to, and readily at work in, the heart and life of every Christian. Based on solid scriptural truths, The Silent Shepherd shares how God’s Spirit can guide, lead, and empower every believer.

BASIC.CommunionFrAnCiS ChAn

Communion powerfully concludes the seven-part BASIC film

series featuring Francis Chan.

What were God’s intentions for communion? Jesus clearly tells us to “do this” so we remember Him and the sacrifice He made for us. But is there more to it than that? Why was the first communion an intimate gathering with Jesus’s twelve disciples, instead of the multitudes following Him? Why did early believers go from home to home for the Lord’s Supper? Because biblical church is about true community; it’s an intimate, full-time commitment with fellow believers to fear, follow, be filled, fellowship, teach, pray, and remember. Together. Because we are church.

T h E A U T h O r >Francis Chan is founding pastor of Cornerstone Church in Simi

Valley, California. He is the founder of Eternity Bible College

and sits on the board of Children’s Hunger Fund. He is also

the New York Times best-selling author of Crazy Love, which has

sold more than 1 million copies, Forgotten God, Remembering the Forgotten God, and the children’s books Halfway Herbert and The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village. Francis and his family make

their home in southern California.

SIGNS - FILM ONE: EARTHThe SiGnS Series

ErWin rAPhAEl MCMAnUS

The first film in Erwin Raphael McManus’s highly creative film series Signs, Earth explores the contrast between spiritual barrenness and God’s promise that He is doing a new thing for His creation.

A barren field. A stark landscape. As the poet Solomon said, “There is nothing new under the sun.” McManus at once resonated with the loneliness of Solomon’s words. He wondered what good could come from the emptiness of the world. Then he looked more closely. He saw sprouts cracking dirt. He saw God breathing warmth into dust. And he saw earth transform from darkness to a source of life.

Rich in Scripture, story, and powerful imagery, Earth and its upcoming sequels—Fire, Wind, Wood, and Water, all filmed in Hawaii—will change forever the way viewers see earth’s elements and the God who created them.

T h E A U T h O rErwin Raphael McManus is an artist, filmmaker, author, storyteller, activist, and innovator. For over 30 years he has specialized in the field of creativity, innovation, human uniqueness, and discovering and maximizing personal genius. He is the creative force behind McManus Studios and principle visionary and primary communicator for Mosaic in Los Angeles. He is the author of many books including An Unstoppable Force and Chasing Daylight. He and his wife, Kim, live in Los Angeles have two children, Aaron and Mariah, and a foster daughter, Paty.

Ed’s Story SeriesEd dOBSOn

Ed’s Story is a 7-part short film series featuring pastor and author Ed Dobson. Suffering is everywhere and it changes us, for better or worse. Ed’s Story is our story. Diagnosed with ALS and given a short time to live, Ed wrestles with the issues suffering raises: worry, identity, forgiveness, gratitude, and healing. What emerges in this 7-film series is his discovery that there is always hope.

T h E A U T h O rEd Dobson, pastor emeritus of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, serves as an advisory editor for Christianity Today and consulting editor for Leadership. He holds an earned doctorate from the University of Virginia, was named “Pastor of the Year” by Moody Bible Institute, and is author of numerous books including the best-selling The Year of Living Like Jesus, and Prayers and Promises When Facing a Life-Threatening Illness. He lives with his family in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

iT Ain’T OvEr In It Ain’t Over, the first film in the Ed’s Story series, Ed Dobson reminds us that life isn’t over yet and that we don’t have to feel overwhelmed by the struggles we’re facing today. Difficult news can sometimes make us feel like our lives are over. Ed shows us that we don’t know the future, and that things may turn out quite differently from what we expect. COnSidEr ThE BirdSSometimes we worry too much about the future. Ed stopped making plans more than two weeks out after his ALS diagnosis. Why? Tomorrow is not guaranteed—for any of us. When we worry about tomorrow, we often miss out on the beauty, richness, and fulfillment of today. Could living for today be what’s best for us, and could it even free us from the worries of tomorrow? BE ThErEWhen those close to us suffer, it’s only natural to want to help. But what do you say when someone’s life falls apart and suffering becomes their reality? How can you show you care? The people who comforted Ed most were the ones who just showed up and didn’t say a word. Perhaps just being present can bring more comfort, peace, and a sense of God’s presence than words ever could. ATTAChEdWhen we meet someone, one of the first questions we ask is, “So, what do you do?” It’s easy to become wrapped up in a career or job. But who are we outside of our work? What

happens when that job is no longer there? Are we still ourselves? A pastor for many years, Ed struggled to adjust to a life without the pulpit. But he eventually discovered there is much more to who we are than what we do. FOrGivEnESSWhen Ed was told his life would be over in a few short years, he found his priorities drastically rearranged. Things that used to be important became mildly relevant, while things that didn’t seem to matter were now all that did. Ed realized this probably meant he could have done certain things better. As he asked those around him for forgiveness, perhaps he also helped them to see what is truly important in his life.

GrATEFUlMany people start each day with a list of things to accomplish. But it’s possible to get caught up in this list; to anticipate how things will go and actually feel entitled to each of our days. As if they are owed to us. It wasn’t until Ed was forced to slow down that he truly began to see all that he has been given. hEAlinGTragedy reminds us what little control we have over life; we are always at the mercy of something other than ourselves. As Ed shares, perhaps acknowledging this lack of control is the key to really understanding the notion of healing.

RELENTLESS PURSUITA novelSecrets of roux river Bayou

KAThy hErMAn

Rich with the Cajun flavors of south Louisiana, this final book in the Secrets of Roux River Bayou Series is a story of what it means to find true peace in an uncertain world.

Sax Landry left home at seventeen to escape his father’s abuse, leaving his mother and sister to fend for themselves. Now, twenty-eight years later, both parents are dead, and guilt compels him to find his sister and make peace. His search leads to Les Barbes, Louisiana, where authorities fear a bio-terrorist has injected cyanide into juice cartons and fresh produce at the grocery store. People are dead. It’s not safe. Sax stays, fearing death less than living another day without peace. A divine appointment is about to change all that—forever.

Every time you purchase a resource from David C Cook, you are not only

meeting a personal need in your life or in the life of someone else—you’re also

making it possible for a teacher in India, a child in Haiti, or a mother in Ukraine

to have a better future. For generations, David C Cook has used the money it

makes from selling discipleship resources to fund the creation and distribution

of resources for leaders in developing countries around the world. For more
