Brookwood National Mock Election Day on October 25
We are all very excited for Brookwood’s first ever
National Mock Election for U.S. President and the Brookwood Grade Level Presidential Elections
to be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016
Before October 25, each homeroom classroom will hold their own Class President Election to determine who will run for Grade Level President. Grade Level Presidents (and possibly Vice Presidents) will have opportunities to meet with administration and leadership as part of “Brookwood’s Student Government”. All K-5 students will have an opportunity to use an online platform to vote in the National Mock Election for U.S. President and the Brookwood Grade Level Presidential Elections in one of our two polling locations. Students from the “Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Precincts” will vote in our Extra Music Room, while students from the “Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Precincts” will vote in our Multipurpose Room. Numbered “Voting Booths” will be set up in each polling location, but we need some help to run our elections! We would love for some grandparents/retirees/parents to volunteer their time to work in our voting rooms to help check students’ “IDs” (students will make these before voting) and to assist in voting. If you can volunteer your time, please sign up using this Sign-Up Genius link - Brookwood National Mock Election Day Volunteers. This will be a memorable real-life experience for our students. Thank you for all of your support! If you have any questions, please contact Rob Meinberg, Brookwood’s Instructional Coach @ [email protected].

5th Grade Yearbook Baby Ads
What better way to honor your student than with a yearbook baby ad in the yearbook? We are offering baby ads for
you to do for your 5th grade student this year!! ADS ARE DUE BY DECEMBER 2, 2016!!
Creating your ad is easy, and can be done from anywhere with the following online ad builder. Here’s how to create
the perfect message for your son or daughter!
Go to www.balfour.com
Enter your school name: Brookwood Elementary, Cumming, GA
On our school’s page, please click YEARBOOK.
In the Shop Categories, click YEARBOOK ADS.
Select the Business sized ad. The 2nd ad is the one you will want to submit (picture on the left and text on the
right). You will be able to submit one picture and enter your text as well with this ad.
Create an account. Your account will allow you to save your ad if you need to come back to it and complete it
in a future session. Be assured that your info won’t be used for anything other than logging into this site.
Enter your student’s name and click CREATE NEW AD.
Add pictures to your gallery by clicking UPLOAD PHOTOS. A file list will open and you can select the image to
upload. For best results, images should be medium to high quality (300ppi) and not larger than 8MB per
image. JPG, JPEG and PNG are suitable for use.
To insert an image into the image frame, simply drag it from the gallery onto the frame.
The text should be in Cochise font and should be no smaller than 8PT so that it will fit. You do not need to
change the font color or the background. Just type your text and make sure it fits in the box when you do
preview. If it does not, you can adjust the size, and if it still does not fit, you will have to delete some
text. This is very important!
When you have finished your ad, save it. Then click PREVIEW AD.

save a JPG preview to your computer.

Pathways2life
We are pleased to announce Pathways2life, intervention specialists (formerly known as Segue), is offering a 2-hour parent workshop designed to educate parents on the material their children are learning in the Health classroom. This allows for parents to be fully equipped and aware of possible questions and cultural issues, along with being knowledgeable in order to reinforce the prevention message at home. 6th-8th grade students will participate in a workshop in their Health classes during Red Ribbon Week on either October 26th or 27th. We look forward to seeing you at this candid conversation about issues our students may face. Feel free to invite other parents, even if they do not have students at Riverwatch. Topics will cover: Indicators of drug use, parenting tips, stress, risk factors and what is being seen in Forsyth County specifically.
When: Tuesday, October 18th Time: 6:30-8:30 pm Where: Riverwatch Cafeteria For: Parents Only (this is not a discussion for students)
