Livestock ID's
ALL livestock ID's are due to the Extension Office by May 1st! This is for everything that isn't required to go to a market livestock weigh-in. ID forms are available at the Extension Office, or on the Marion County 4-H webpage at: www.extension.iastate.edu/marion/4h or from your leader. Please fill out the forms completely. Missing information could prevent your livestock from being eligible for the fair! May 1st is the last day to turn them in, we will gladly except them before the deadline!
Goat/Sheep Weigh-In
Goat and Sheep weigh-in is scheduled for May 7th at the Marion County Fairgrounds in the sheep barn from 8:00-11:00a.m. You must bring the following livestock to this weigh-in:
● All Market Goats
● All Market and Performance Lambs
All members that signed up for goats and/or sheep on their enrollment forms will receive a packet of information a couple of weeks before weigh-in. If you are not sure if you signed up for market goats and/or sheep contact the Ex-tension Office or watch the Marion County 4-H Website for Goat/Sheep Weigh-in Information: www.extension.iastate.edu/marion/4h
State Fair Swine Protocol
Again this year there will be no regional weigh-ins. You will be required to tag your
swine with a special DNA tag. These tags are available at the Extension Office at a
cost of $10 per tag. The tags need to be used with a special tagger. We have two
taggers available at the Extension Office for check-out. You may check the tagger out
for a total of three days. Please call ahead to be sure that they tagger is available
before you stop in. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office.
Your tags need to be in your hog’s ears and the DNA portion of the tag returned to the
Extension Office by no later than May 1st. You will need to verify your animal’s
information on 4honline prior to May 15th to be IDed for the State Fair.

2016 State 4-H Camps at the Iowa 4-H Center
Young people have three special-themed 4-H camps designed especially for them. Three statewide camps will be held at the
Iowa 4-H Center near Madrid. Adventures in nature are only part of the experiences young people will have at our 4 or 5 night 4-H
STEM Summer Camps. 4-H STEM Camps offer a hands-on approach to developing the excitement and skills necessary for youth to
succeed in a safe and fun setting. The 4-H Camp Program starts youth on the path to becoming informed citizens and the next generation of
scientists and engineers that we need for our communities to thrive. Using our research based Experiential Learning Model in a safe outdoor
setting allows youth to connect what they are learning to their daily lives.
The dates and themes of the three camps are:
June 5-9—STEM Survival Camp (5th—7th Grades); Would you know what to do if a zombie apocalypse were to actually happen?
What about a natural disaster of epic proportions? We have just the place to learn the skills you may need.
June 26-30—Science Explorers Camp (5th—7th Grades); Do you enjoy taking things apart? Do you like to take a close look at the
world around you? Explore nature and history in central Iowa. Come and find out how local plants thrive, how birds fly, why Iowa soil is
black, and how people have lived on the land. By the end of this week you will have a better understanding of how the world works. July
June 21-27—Design Condensed (10th –12th Grades) This immersive experience will help you get a sense of what it is like to be in
college. Days will be spent at the College of Design on the Iowa State campus, engaging in a series of college-structured courses. Students
will explore the principles of 2D and 3D space as they apply to the design of interior spaces, architectural forms and product designs. You
will work with drawing, rendering and modeling to communicate visual information about the built and natural environment.
June 21-27—DaVinCi -- Design of Aerospace Vehicles for (in) Class Integration (
Financial assistance for youth to attend 4-H camps at the Iowa 4-H Center is available from the Iowa 4-H Foundation https://
