Data Types in PerformanceBridge

1 Overview This document describes the data types used in each of the PerformanceBridge applications. The descriptions are at a high-level view, and do not intend to describe all modeled objects and structures persisted in the data management systems.

1.2 Data Types

Brief description of “what you get”:

1. Order Data – ORM : This is required for most apps, as it contains rich information about the patient and orders, as well as order status.

2. Patient Data – ADT : This is considered optional for most apps, but it allows for a more comprehensive record of information about a patient,

specifically allowing for patient record IDs to be correctly merged together.

3. Report Data – ORU : This data contains information about the radiology reports and results data. For some apps, such as Report Search, this is

required. For others, such as Productivity and Quality, its inclusion is optional, but allows for the calculation of metrics like Turn Around Time,

which is a useful measure for many customers.

4. Scheduling Data – SIU : contains lightweight information about scheduling data, which may be optionally leveraged by the Patient Flow application.

5. DICOM Data – contains information about exams, devices, and technicians. DICOM data can provide data at the Series-level, or Study-level.

1.3 Comparison of DICOM vs HL7 data

HL7 provides much more rich information about patient data and workflow information, while DICOM provides less of this information, but alternatively provides more rich information about acquisition, and protocols. HL7 may have an additional benefit of being more reliably “real-time” as compared to DICOM, which can be slower.

1.3.1 Metrics

The following chart offers a rough illustration of what data metrics are provided with DICOM or HL7, and which are provided by either form. There is an additional circle labeled “HL7 and DICOM”, which describes roughly the metrics that can be generated when both data types are used together.
