contest played in the Times Union Center, 3-2. Despite a below .500 record, the Engineers have been very strong at home with a 6-2-2 record in their own building. Sophomore Ryan Haggerty leads the team with 10 goals and 18 points, while freshman goaltender Jason Kasdorf (4-2-2, .935%, 1.75 GAA) has come on recently to earn the nod as the team’s No. 1 netminder.

▶ LAST TIME AGAINST RPIThese two teams met back on Nov. 9 in Hanover with the Big Green putting on one of its most dominating displays of the season in routing the Engineers, 4-0. The shutout was the first of Morris’ collegiate career as he turned aside the 18 shots that made their way on the Dartmouth goal. Robinson, Tyler Sikura, Eric Neiley and Brad Schierhorn all scored in the winning effort.

▶ NBC IN NYFriday marks the fourth time the Green and White will have played a game on the NBC Sports Network since the channel was reincarnated last winter. The first college hockey game under the network’s new name was Dartmouth at RPI on Jan. 6. The Green won, 4-3.

▶ ON TVDartmouth is 1-1-1 in televised games this season. The Big Green tied Cornell (Time Warner), defeated Vermont (NBC Sports Network) and lost in OT at Quinnipiac (NESN) in those three tilts.

▶ 2ND CHANCE FOR EVERYTHINGDartmouth’s top three goals scorers this season have been Robinson (10) as well as Lindblad (9) and Sikura (9). But for just the second time this season, all three scored a goal in the same game Saturday night against Clarkson. The only other time all three have found the back of the net in the same game came back on Nov. 2 when all three recorded two markers in a 7-4 win over visiting Yale.

▶ SO LONG JANUARYThe Big Green’s 3-4-0 record in January is the only month this season in which the team has failed to post a winning record.

▶ PLAY IT LIKE THE FIRST 40Of the 12 ECAC Hockey teams, no other program has performed better offensively in the first two periods than Dartmouth (2.15 goals per game). However, despite the recent third-period success of the Clarkson game, the Green average just 1.05 goals per game in the third period or overtime this season, the sixth-best total in conference.

▶ SHOT BLOCKEDDartmouth and Union are tied for second among league teams with 295 blocked shots this season. Only Harvard’s 318 blocks rank higher than those of Friday’s opponents. The Big Green average 14.75 blocks per game, while the Dutchmen average 11.8.

▶ STRONG STANZAThe four goals in the third period against the Golden Knights was the best offensive frame all season for the Green. Three times previously Dartmouth had managed to score three in a period, including twice against Yale (1st and 2nd) on Nov. 2.

▶ VOTE FOR HOBEYFan voting recently opened for the 2013 Hobey Baker Award, given annually to college hockey’s best player. Dartmouth has two nominees on this season’s fan ballot as both Lindblad and Sikura make their first appearances.

Head Coach

BOB GAUDET ’81Now in his 16th season as head coach of the Dartmouth men’s ice hockey program, Bob Gaudet has firmly established himself in the lore of this century-old program. A 1981 Dartmouth graduate and four-year member of the varsity hockey team, Gaudet has made the Big Green one of the most consistent teams in both ECAC Hockey and the Ivy League during his time behind the bench.

In the last two seasons, Gaudet has reached several key milestones, earning his 200th win behind the Big Green bench in 2010-11 and eclipsing the 300-career win mark in the first game of 2011-12.

In 24 seasons as a head coach, including the last 15 at Dartmouth, Gaudet has worked with and developed some of the nation’s top talents. Eight former Dartmouth players suited up for NHL teams in 2010-11 alone and nine total in that time. Several more former student-athletes also played in other professional leagues in the last two years, including the KHL, AHL, ECHL and the CHL.

Entering the 2012-13 season, Gaudet ranks second all-time at Dartmouth with 219 wins, trailing only Big Green legend Eddie Jeremiah ’30, who racked up 308 victories in 26 seasons with the program. Gaudet’s .507 winning percentage (219-212-54) is the third-best mark at Dartmouth as well.

In 2010-11, Gaudet and the Big Green made huge strides to return to national prominence. Dartmouth finished the season ranked No. 15 in the nation after posting 19 wins and winning the ECAC Hockey Consolation Game in Atlantic City, N.J.

At Dartmouth, Gaudet guided the Big Green to seven straight winning seasons from the 2000-01 season to 2006-07 and had 20-win seasons in 2002-03 and 2004-05. The 20-13-2 record in 2004-05 marked the team’s fifth consecutive campaign above .500, the first time that had happened in school history. Gaudet has also led the Big Green to seven straight home playoff series, and in 2001, the program made its first trip to the ECAC semifinals in 20 years. He earned his 200th career win against St. Lawrence on Feb. 11, 2005 and has a Dartmouth record of 219-212-54 (Entering this year).

The Big Green has won two titles under Gaudet. In 2007 Dartmouth captured a share of its first Ivy title since Gaudet was in net in 1980. The 2005-06 season gave Dartmouth

its first-ever ECACHL title. Gaudet was also named ECAC Hockey’s Coach of the Year, making him the second coach to earn the award with two separate teams. He was also a finalist for the Division I Coach of the Year Award. Gaudet has now had two Ivy League Players of the Year, Mike Ouellette earned the honor in 2005-06 while David Jones was given the title in 2006-07. Jones was also an All-America, giving Gaudet four back-to-back players to earn that distinction.

After nine successful seasons behind the Brown University bench from 1988-97, Gaudet returned to Hanover for the 1997-98 campaign.

Gaudet took over Brown’s coaching reins in 1988 and immediately went about transforming the Bears from a perennial cellar-dweller into one of the ECAC’s top programs. During his tenure, Brown steadily climbed in the league standings, from 12th in ’89 to eighth in ’90 and ’91, fifth in ’92, third in ’93, fourth in ’94 and all the way to second in ’95. Since his return in 1997, Gaudet began the same process at Dartmouth. The Big Green finished 11th his first two years, eighth in 2000, fifth in ’01, third in ’05 and was tied for first in 2006-07.

In the summer of 1990, Gaudet served as the assistant coach of the East Team in the Olympic Sports Festival, held in Minneapolis. In 1994, he served again as head coach of the East Team, and also coached the East All-Star Team in the East-West Shrine College Hockey Classic. Gaudet spent the summer of 1998 behind the bench of the New England Select 16-Team at USA Hockey’s Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Gaudet and his wife Lynne, also a 1981 Dartmouth graduate, reside in Etna, N.H., and have three children: sons Joe and Jim and daughter Kelly. Eldest son Joe graduated from Dartmouth in 2010, while Jim earned his degree from the College in 2012. Both Joe and Jim played four seasons with the Big Green with each serving as an alternate captain in their final seasons with the team. Kelly is a senior at Hanover High School in 2012-13 where she is the starting goalie and co-captain of the girl’s ice hockey team.

goalies this season and trails just Quinnipiac’s Eric Hartzell for the best figure by an ECAC Hockey netminder.

▶ PLAY THEM ALL AGAINST THE SAINTSSophomore defenseman Andy Simpson has two career goals to his credit with both coming at the expense of SLU goalie Matt Weninger. In the most recent meeting, Simpson’s no-look, last-second shot from the halfboards through a screen found space and redirected off the Saints’ goalie with just 1.4 seconds remaining in the first period. Simpson’s only other goal came in Game 2 of last season’s first-round match-up between the two teams on March 3, 2012.

▶ SPECIAL TEAMS STANDOUTSUnion boasts the best power play (26.3%; 31-118) and the second best penalty kill (91.2%; 93-102) in the nation coming into Friday night’s match-up. This marks the second time this season that the Big Green have squared off with a team that had the top PP unit at the time. Bentley was leading the nation with the man-advantage when the two played on Dec. 1, but was held to an 0-for-6 showing that night in Hanover.

▶ BG PKDartmouth’s PK has been above 90.0% all season and currently ranks fourth in the country at 90.5% (67-74). The Union-Dartmouth match-up is one of three between teams currently ranked in the top-10 in PK this weekend as Miami (6th) and Alaska (8th) square off as well as Notre Dame (9th) and Ohio State (10th).

▶ LOVEJOY = WINSJunior Nick Lovejoy was reinserted back into the team’s defensive rotation for the Clarkson game, his 10th appearance of the season. Dartmouth is 6-2-2 when Lovejoy plays, a winning percentage of .700, the highest figure for any one player (other than Morris) with at least five games played. He has yet to record a point in any of his appearances, but provides a physical presence in the defensive zone.

▶ TONS OF SHOTSThe 49 shots on goal Saturday night against Clarkson were 12 more than the next highest total in a single game this season (37 vs. Yale – Nov. 2). The last time the Big Green had more than 40 SOG in a contest came at Cornell in Game 1 of last season’s quarterfinals when they also posted 49 shots on goal in 77:40 of action (2OT).

▶ GOOD LUCK CHARMSince joining the team, Dartmouth is 1-0-0 with Caleb Nelson in the building. The Team IMPACT addition to the Big Green’s roster was on-hand for the 5-1 win over visiting Clarkson.

▶ POTENT IN PROVIDENCEKnocking off the Bears in their home rink is nothing new to the Green and White. Dartmouth has not lost at Meehan to any opponent since Feb. 22, 2007, a streak of 5-0-1 in that time (Oct. 26, 2012 – T, 2-2 vs. Yale).
