The  Industrial Plan  is a strategy of the Govern-ment of Catalonia, in collaboration with public and private universities, which aims to contribute to the competitiveness and internationalization of Catalonia, retain talent and provide doctorate students with the conditions to undertake R&D&I projects in a company.

As part of this plan, SUEZ Spain has incorpora-ted six industrial students, who will produce their PhD thesis in a technology company.

04 IMAGINE SILICON VALLEY2015 CREATING WITHOUT BOUNDARIES

Imagine Silicon Valley is a disruptive program to identify big challenges and to pursue solutions with a multidisciplinary team in Silicon Valley.

Coping the strategic challenge on New Uses of Water Assets in the Smart City Era, the emerging solution was DROPS.

DROPS, lost&found app, makes use of SUEZ Spain distribution and smart metering networks to deploy a powerful network to increase citizen safety and inclusion.

02 IMAGINE EXPRESS 20153 DISRUPTIVE PROJECTS IN 3 DAYS

After an in-depth evaluation of 105 ideas that came from the Call for Ideas, we selected 3 ideas to represent SUEZ in Imagine Express 2015. Imagine Express 2015 aimed to generate businesses in the Mobile sector and took place during 4-day trip by train to and from Barcelona-Paris-London.

‘Safe & Sound’ Project managed to convince the investor committee in London and won the award for the best idea in Water.

From the very beginning, this fi rst year has been focu-sed on the detection of several professionals among the organization to join the community and to explore new opportunities in the years to come.

New opportunities are opening up for robotics for industry. The use of robots have been proposed to support workers in inspection and maintenance ac-tivities.

Among all applications identifi ed, SUEZ initiative prioritized the use of underwater cleaning robots in drinking water tanks.

Robots are expected to positively impact this activity by allowing operation without interrupting the service, preventing workers accessing confi ned spaces and reducing time and resources as cleaning products.

ROBOTICSCOLLABORATIVE ROBOTS OFFER SAFELY WORKING ALONGSIDE HUMANS

OIA is an intelligent coaster that helps people to keep hydrated and to behave healthier at workplaces. Thus, OIA is the fi rst hydration solution focus on the increasingly signifi cant connected health market.

This easy-to-use coaster is connected to a free APP where users can check their hydration level throughout the day and compare it with the hydra-tion goal set by the APP regarding the user physical description. Colorful LEDs show different functions, as reminders.

Promoting healthy habits, Suez Spain extends the water concept as a vital factor for life.

OIASTAY WELL HYDRATED WITH OIA

On these connected world, lots of localization low cost solutions are being created, but until this moment no other solution is capable to localize objects outside Bluetooth Smartphone range.

From Imagine Silicon Valley 2015 Program, DROPS is the localization TAG that allows people to fi nd their most appreciated goods.

Thanks to water management asset distributed through the city, DROPs deploys an interconnected network to locate, fi nd and control personal goods.

Nothing will be lost again with DROPS.

CITYSENSIA offers air quality monitoring in real time and mobility for Smart cities.

It creates a great air quality database that combined with city data would help on the defi nition of urban plans and city management.

It is also designed for sensitive risk groups who can get alerts on their phones when air quality index is over healthy levels.

CitySensia is creating air quality maps for citizens and municipalities with the fi rst use case deployed this year in Barcelona in collaboration with the water utility.

SOCIAL INNOVATIONLEADING THE SOCIAL (BUSINESS) TURN

Social Innovation is one of the fastest growing trends, and its founded on the idea that social needs can be met while creating business and competitiveness at the same time with more effective, effi cient and sustainable solutions.

To promote the cultural change required to adopt the social innovation within SUEZ, a entrepreneurship team has been created: ChangeMaker Team.

In collaboration with world leading experts of Ashoka and DOT, we are working on the practical defi nition of our vision, model, structure, project management and active listening model to enable us to launch new sparking projects that integrates the social dimen-sion for the organic growth.

The confi ned spaces inspection drone offers safe alternative instead of manned solutions. Further-more, it can wiggle into confi ned spaces so small or diffi cult to access that other solutions can not compare.

The initiative was born from the idea of inspec-ting sewer networks with fl ying robots, since these environments are dangerous for humans, and sometimes present obstacles too complex for fl oating or ground vehicles.

Once the technology was developed, we realized that the world is full of inaccessible corners that our drone can access, and for industrial inspection this is a very valuable capability.

DRONESINSPECTION DRONE FOR INDOORS AND UNDERGROUND

PIXI allows consumers to know the water consump-tion of their home and compare it with similar house profi les, by using gamifi cation techniques.

It’s a fun tool where citizens can participate in challenges and forums to improve their house water consumption, get points and use them to get rewards or donate them for social initiatives.

As an advance app-solution, PIXI involves citizenship in the caring for environment and sustainability.
