Partnership with March of Dimes
FBLA has partnered with MOD for almost 40 years!
Chapters have raised over $20 million
“Working together for stronger healthier babies
http://www.marchofdimes.com/mission.aspx
Why partner with March of Dimes?
MOD helps moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, we offer information and comfort to families. We research the problems that threaten our babies and work on preventing them.
An estimated 135 million babies have been saved by polio vaccines.
Infant deaths dues to respiratory distress syndrome have been cut in half.
2 ½ million very sick babies have been cared for in neonatal intensive care units since 2000 alone.

New Curriculum from MOD
Service Learning - Hands-on - Received a $500,000 grant from the March of Dimes to create this curriculum
Five modules designed to be implemented within the classroom or in a chapter training workshop
Free to all chapters
Curriculum
Designed as a tool for advisers to help students enhance the skills that they use as volunteers in WalkAmerica or to plan a fundraiser for the benefit of the March of Dimes
These activities will help students learn about organizing and executing an event, and guide business students/FBLA-PBL members as they learn about community service
Do a “Mission Moment”
Ring • Imagine a baby so small that this ring would
slide over the hand and arm or the foot and leg of a 15-week premature baby. This is a dramatic example of how tiny a preemie really is.
Premature Baby Diaper • This diaper is one that a premature baby would
wear. It is too small for even a beanie baby. Try to imagine the size of a full term baby diaper compared to this preemie diaper. The size difference will surprise you.
Watch “Fight for Preemies!”
Coffee Stirrer • This exercise illustrates how difficult it is for a
premature baby with underdeveloped lungs to breathe. Place the coffee stirrer in your mouth, hold your nose and try to breathe only through the tiny opening of the stirrer. Most folks will only be able to breathe this way for about 30 seconds, but imagine having to breathe like this for several months.
Spoon• Imagine needing a blood transfusion and all
the blood you needed could fit into a teaspoon. That is the reality for premature babies.
Lifesavers• Thanks for being a “lifesaver” for babies. (we
will give each person some lifesaver candies)
Won’t You be a Hero? By joining the March of Dimes and helping
to save babies you will be a hero
