Overtopping of dams can lead to failure, potentially causing significant downstream damage including loss of life and property. The HydroTurf® Advanced Revetment System is specifically designed to protect earthen embankment dams from overtopping. Many embankment dams have a high probability of failure due to inadequate height and insufficient spillway capacity. HydroTurf® has been comp-rehensively tested at Colorado State University (CSU). CSU’s laboratory has the largest flumes for hydraulic testing in the world. HydroTurf did not reach failure at a maximum steady state overtop velocity of 40 ft/s and for 13 hours in the wave overtop simulator being subjected to a 500-year hurricane event for the New Orleans region.
