The DALLAS ALUMNAE NEWS is the official newsletter of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. Published monthly, DALLAS ALUMNAE NEWS communicates the programmatic
thrusts of the Sorority as well as Chapter’s programs, initiatives, events, and announcements. All articles and
photos are to be submitted by Executive Board members and Committee Chairs. Send all articles, photographs

Message from the Chapter President
s we come to the end of 2013 and our sorority’s centennial
celebration we enthusiastically leap forward into year one hundred
and one of our spectacular sisterhood. What a year it has been as
we shared with this nation how proud we are of a Sorority
shaped to its purpose and built on Christian principles. Let us
use our past as a springboard to the future and continue the legacy we
have been bestowed. Let our love for Delta exude as bold and strong as
that deep crimson the twenty-two chose to represent this body. It is so
exciting to be a part of a living, growing, organization rich with love and
history.
As the 45th President of this chapter I am strengthened to endure the labor that
must be absorbed by the deeds of those set before me. Overwhelmingly as a
chapter we have recently decided to bring new members into this illustrious society.
I beseech each of you as you make recommendations and write letters of interest that you allow your servants
heart to dictate your decisions. Many are called but few are chosen. Delta Sigma Theta is a lifetime
commitment. Your decision will contribute to the next one hundred years of our sorority. Make it a good one.
Romans 12:6-8 reads 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is
prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then
teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it
diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. We need servants in this sisterhood. We need women with a
purpose that is greater than themselves; with a desire to see generations of women grow progressively in this
world as a whole and individually. We need women like you.
The ceasing of the centennial brings about the dawn of the New Year! 2014... new beginnings, new ambitions,
new ideas, new members and new life to Delta. Let us honor our founders in a way that will continue to bless
this organization for years to come. By selecting those who will continue to honor our legacy, who will com-
mit to servicing our communities and who will dedicate themselves to Delta with a lifetime of commitment.
Let’s get busy Dallas Alumnae!

Membership Services
When you think of the Membership Services Committee, please remember “it’s all about
you.” We exist to serve you, with sisterly devotion, and we hope you will not forget this.
Our services include our comfort and care outreach for the sick, shut-in and bereaved. We
want to support you as you face the most challenging events in life and commemorate your
professional or personal accomplishments.
We announced the reclamation program at the September meeting. We want you to seek out
90 inactive Sorors, and invite them to “Reflect, Renew and Return” to Delta Sigma Theta Inc.
by affiliating with this chapter. Our accomplishments during these 90 years are unparalleled,
and our reputation should attract many inactive Sorors. Please extend an opportunity to serve our
community through membership in Dallas Alumnae Chapter to each and every inactive
Soror you meet.
Reclaiming Sorors can also be rewarding. The chapter member who accumulates the highest
total number of points through reclamation and program activities will be deemed the “Chapter
Member of the Year”, and awarded $250 for chapter dues (2014-2015). Each participant will
receive 100 points for each reclaimed Soror referred by the chapter member. You will receive 50
points for each visiting Soror you bring to a chapter meeting. 25 points will be awarded for each
Five Point Program event and/or community service program attended by a chapter member. If a
chapter member brings a visiting Soror to a Five Point Program, 10 points will be awarded.
Please take the time to send a friendship card or note to a shut-in Soror, particularly if your
birthday occurs in October. The committee is aware of the following Sorors who are homebound:
Maxine Thornton Reese, Tommie Nell Canaday, DeArtis Stinson, Mary Louise Williams, Bobbie
Lander and Marilyn Mask.
Sharing good times with Sorors is the greatest joy. This is the stuff that makes life worthwhile.
