selected as the Conference Logo.

Herald Tribune
Ritu Muralidharan student of Class XA won a consolation prize for a competition
held by The International Herald Tribune. The results were declared on the 18th of February at a ceremony at the American School of Bombay.
The topic: 'A Letter to a Leader addressing an issue of
National/International Importance'.

The International
Olympiad in
Linguistics ‐ USA
Sagar Sarda of Class 12 received an "Honourable Mention" at the International
Linguistics Olympiad, 2011, USA and was placed in the top 1/4th of students from
around the world that participated in the Olympiad. The International Olympiad in
Linguistics is an Olympiad consisting of approximately 100 of the best high school
linguists in the world. The Olympiad consists of one long 6‐hour paper with 5
problems, each in a different language. It is usually one that the candidate has
never even heard of, let alone has any knowledge of, and each problem tests a different aspect of linguistics.

amongst 110 teams from 25 nations.

Tanvi Potdar has been ranked third in India: On the basis of best 8 IGCSE subjects.
2 Indian Robotics
Olympiad 2011
Hemani Kalucha of IGCSE grade 9 won the IRO regional award in the Open
category. This team is also chosen from all 4 zones to represent India for the WRO
to be held in Abu Dhabi in November.
She and her team had made a 'Robotic Air‐hockey for the Blind'. This game consisted
of a puck tracking system through a vibrator attached to the glove which helped the visually impaired children play air‐hockey.
3 National Computing
Olympiad
The international Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is one of the most recognized
computer science competitions in the world. The Indian Computing olympiad (ICO)
is a nationwide competition modelled after the IOI that is used to select the team to represent India at the IOI.
Shantanu Jain was one of the 23 students in India to clear it. This has resulted in his
qualification for the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC), to
be held in June 2012. Four students from this training camp will be selected to
represent India at International Olympiad in Informatics. In addition, he will be one
of 23 representing India at the Asia‐Pacific Informatics Olympiad, to be held in May
2012.

4 Write & Read
Initiative for Young
Students
Budding writers from our school participated in "Write& Read" ‐ a collaborative
initiative, launched by HP's Imaging and Printing Group and Katha ‐ "a profit‐forall"
NGO, in the art of story writing. The two half day creative writing workshop
culminated with the submission of a short story by each participant. These short
stories were collected from six cities (the workshop travelled to Bangalore, Chennai,
Pune, Mumbai,
Kolkata and Delhi) and shortlisted 75 stories. Twenty five of these short stories were
picked by lyricist Prasoon Joshi and compiled into a book of short stories that was
distributed to local libraries and communities across India.
Two of our students were selected for this prestigious initiative:
Nandini Kejriwal Class VI A, her story, 'Beaten Black and Blue' was illustrated by
Urmila Shastriwala , Suhana Khan Class VI B, her story, 'Waiting to Bloom' was
illustrated by Teamea Costa .
5 Online Future Leader
Discovery Contest
The Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi, as part of Swami Vivekananda's
150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations, organized an ONLINE FUTURE
LEADER DISCOVERY CONTEST for school students across the country in which nearly
53,000 students from 9000 schools participated. Shubhangi Dutta of Class 7
qualified for the final stage for which 35 students were selected. She was awarded a certificate by Ramakrishna Mission, New
Delhi.

Programme
2012 Competition
50 students‐10 each from Classes ‐5‐9 were awarded the Hindustan Times
Scholarship for the year 2012 at Shanmukhanda Hall, Sion on 17th February. Each
of the winners took home Rs 50,000 along with a trophy and a certificate of merit
.The winners were selected from 42,547 applicants sent by 275 schools across the
city.
Three students from our school won the Hindustan Times Scholarship Programme
2012. They are: Suhana Khan from Class VI‐B, Beverly Lobo from Class VIII‐B and
Sarah Kagzi from Class V‐B.

Nehru Science Centre
Competition
A demonstration of Landscape painting was given by Ms. Bhavna Shah to the
various participating schools. The theme was 5 different seasons of
India‐ summer, winter, spring, autumn and monsoons. After the demonstration the
students were asked to paint any one season of their choice.
Jessica Parekh, Tanisha Narayan & Sanya Dalal won the First, Second and Third
prizes. Tanisha Nalvade & Jessica Parekh were awarded the First & Second place in
the Cartooning Competition while Suhana Khan received a Consolation prize.

Organized by World Wide Fund for Nature Environment Poetry Recitation
Competition in English held on 9th December 2011 Kashish
Khanchandani of Class 4 secured First Position during the State Level competition.
5 Mental
Arithmetic
Kaira Sheth, a student of Class 2 A has been declared the Maharashtra Champion in
Mental Arithmetic in the Under 7 category.
The competition was held in three centers, namely, Mumbai, Nagpur and Pune, in
which over 5500 children participated. She will now, in August participate in the
Nationals to be held in Chennai.

Photo Essay
Exposition
Four students of Class 9‐A and 10‐A participated in the inter ‐institutional photo
essay exposition based on the theme of Diversity held at the Singapore
International School Dahisar on the 8th of April 2011. The competition was titled
Freedom‐in ‐ Frames'. Each entry photo had to carry a 100 word synopsis to convey
the story. The participants were Astha Mehta, Ritu Murlidharan, Aanchal
Maheshwari and Rajoshi Ray bagged the first prize!

Cultural
Extravaganza
Over a 100 students from Dhirubhai Ambani International took part in the 2 day
cultural extravaganza held at H.R. College and sponsored by the Rotary Club of
Bombay.
Our school contingent participated in 14 events and the school stood 2nd among all
the schools that participated.
We were also awarded the ‘Most Popular School’ & ‘Best Upcoming school’.
The events participated in included: Olympic Bidding, Debate, Quiz, Sport, Painting,
Management Games, PPT, Choir Singing, 30 seconds to Fame,
Treasure Hunt, Creative Writing, Cuisine, Street Play, J.A.M., Fashion Show,
Mascot, Dance.

For Classes 3 and 4, Hindustan Times conducted a Student Recognition Programme,
on the line of the Scholarship Programme conducted for the students of classes 5
onwards.

Star
Correspondent
2011‐12
Pranav Mehta of Class 9 participated in the Times NIE Star Correspondent for the
year 2011‐12 contests. 850 students from schools all over Mumbai participated.
Out of the above, 55 students were shortlisted and called for an interview with
various editors and journalists. 30 students were honoured with the title 'Times NIE
Star Correspondent for 2011‐12'.

11 Junior Journo 3 a
program by DNA YA!!
Arya Kadakia selected for Junior Journo 3. Junior Journo 3 is a program by DNA YA
where out of 1000 students, 70 were selected to become Junior Journalists & got
the rare opportunity to get a glance at the media world as they went for workshops
of photography, environmental journalism, newspaper production and television
news. Each child was given assignments after their workshops and their work was
printed in the newspaper. After this six month program the Junior Journos received
their awards on 29th January at Jamnabai Narsee School and included awards like
‘Best Newshound’, ‘Best Photographer’ and ‘Children with Notable Journalist Skills’.

Awards Competition
Subrat Sharma of Class 10 A won the 3rd prize in Scholastic Writing awards
competition conducted across India. The prize winning entries are published in the
form of book and the book was launched at CROSSWORD. The title of his entry was
Miraculous Books
