Excelsior Corresondent JAMMU, May 31: Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda, today convened a virtual meet with persons with spinal cord injuries and special disabilities of Kashmir division to listen to their grievances so as to redress them and ensure the facili- ties reach at their doorsteps. During the meet, the partici- pants raised several issues and demands which were discussed threadbare. The issues and con- cerns highlighted included acces- sibilities like ramps and other spe- cial disabled friendly infrastruc- ture in all public and private build- ings besides educational institu- tions particularly with regard to books and other requisite necessi- ties. They urged the Secretary to intervene and ensure that the process for issuance of income certificates is simplified and they may be provided special ration cards. Besides, several other signifi- cant issues like provision of reha- bilitation homes/centers, disabled friendly public transport, avail- ability of ambulance and doctors on call, reservation in government jobs, customized wheel chairs, specific prosthetic aid were also brought to the notice of the Secretary. The participants requested for their involvement in all programs and measures being taken up by the government for their welfare and rehabilitation. After giving a patient hearing to the issues and demands raised by the participants, Sheetal Nanda assured them that all efforts would be initiated to ensure that their problems are mitigated and bene- fits reach the deserving and gen- uine persons. She assured them that other issues discussed in the meeting would be brought into the notice of higher authorities for early redressal. She affirmed that the Government is taking several innovative measures to make their lives comfortable and dignified with special focus on accessibili- ties and livelihood programs. Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, May 31: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan today emphasised on delivering all projects to pub- lic that are complete in every respect. He asked the depart- ments to ensure every allied facility is available at all the sports amenities constructed by them so that competitive national events are conducted in them. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary Youth Services & Sports, Alok Kumar; Director General, Youth Services & Sports (YS&S), Dr. Saleem Ur Rehman; Secretary Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul; OSD to Advisor, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak; Engineers of the execut- ing agencies and other officers of the sports departments. Advisor Khan directed both the J&K Sports Council and YS&S Department to create the facilities that are of specifications of international standard. He asked them to approve each of such facilities created by the administrative bodies like FIFA, FIH, etc. He further directed the authorities to upgrade all the facilities so that reputed sports events of nation could be con- ducted there. He impressed upon them to ensure having separate washrooms, fencing, parking, drinking water, watch and ward and other facilities available at each sports stadium for their proper upkeep and maintenance. The Advisor asked the DG YS&S to identify the coaching staff to cater to the outdoor and indoor sports stadia constructed across different districts of J&K. He further directed them to look into deputation of managerial staff to different sports facilities for managing the activities like booking, registration of players and proper utilisation of these facilities in each district. Moreover Advisor Khan asked them to make available the services of Physiotherapists and other turf maintenance curators at these state of art facilities for their optimum use and care. He asked them to create boarding & lodging facilities in each district for the players so that they don't have to travel much for partici- pating in the games held there. The Advisor further directed the authorities to identify a patch of land in consultation with divi- sional administration for creating mega sports complex in valley on the analogy of Khel Gaon Nagrota, Jammu. He directed the executing agencies to adhere to deadlines fixed for each project and asked the officers to monitor the deadlines regularly. The Advisor reviewed the progress and status of all the ongoing mega sports projects of J&K, sports projects taken up under PMDP, maintenance of sports infrastructure created to be completed in future. He asked them to clear the past liabilities where work has been completed satisfactorily and accelerate the pace on other ongoing works without compromising on the quality of work. Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, May 31: Acting tough against drug peddlers, dis- trict police Kathua have on the directives of SSP, Romesh Chander Kotwal recovered hero- in like contraband in the jurisdic- tion of Kathua Police Station from two ladies hailing from Punjab at present Chack Drab Khan, Kathua. The duo was arrested. Police said a team led by Inspector, Vijay Kumar, SHO Police Station (PS), Kathua under the supervision of DySP Headquarter Kathua, Shammi Kumar conducted a raid near Chack Drab Khan, Kathua and apprehended two suspected ladies namely Pooja, wife of Surjeet Lal and Shakuntla Devi, wife of Bui Lal both residents of Tadiwaal Punjab and at present Chak Drab Khan, district Kathua. On their frisking respective police team recovered 28 grams of heroin like contraband from their illegal possession. A case FIR No. 270/2021 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act stands registered in Kathua Police Station and further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, district police Kathua today recovered illicit liquor in the jurisdiction of Police Station(PS) Hiranagar and also arrested one person in this con- nection. Police said a team led by Inspector, Anil Kumar Sharma SHO PS Hiranagar during patrolling duty near PHC Dinga Amb apprehended one suspect namely Bittu Ram, son of Chanda Ram of Kooper Kamashi. On his physical check- ing, one bottle containing approximately 05 litres of illicit liquor was recovered from his possession and bootlegger was arrested on spot. Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: Sunil Dimple president Jammu West Assembly Movement today criti- cised Government for opening more wine shops instead of vacci- nation centres in Jammu. Addressing a press conference here, Sunil Dimple alleged that in spite of repeated requests to LG, Manoj Sinha and administration there is acute shortage of vaccina- tion centres for 18-45 age group. He said in most of the centres for 18 to 45 age -group there were no vaccinations and the youth are returning without getting the vac- cinations. He said the video recorded memorandum, was sent to the higher ups including Divisional Commissioner, DCs, and CMOs. Dimple alleged there are no vaccinations for the second dose for above 45 ages. He alleged the Government is opening more wine shops in the City of Temples than the required number of vaccination centres for the 18 to 45 age youths, in Jammu region. He said people are protesting against the opening of the wine shops, but the administration has turned a deaf ear. He alleged the liquor mafia is very active in this pandemic and people are in their houses due to lockdown. But liquor mafia is active in opening the wine shops in the Jammu city. DAILY EXCELSIOR, JAMMU TUESDAY, JUNE 1, 2021 (PAGE 7) Truck overturns, driver receives minor injuries Excelsior Correspondent SAMBA, May 31: Due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in the afternoon in Samba area, a truck bearing Registration Number, JK 08 K-6007 over- turned in the middle of the Highway near Main Chowk of the town here, today after the driver lost control over the vehi- cle. The accident took place near the Main Chowk on Jammu - Pathankot National Highway. The truck was loaded with bananas and was on way from Kathua towards Jammu. But after reaching Samba, the driver suddenly lost his balance due to heavy rains and thunderstorm and the vehicle turned turtle. The driver of the truck suf- fered minor injuries. However, the Samba police swung into action to resume the traffic on the Highway which got disrupted for some time due to accident. The police also reg- istered a case in this regard and has started further investigation. Purkhoo Camp inmates demand launch of sanitization drive Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: Migrants of Purkhoo Camp Phase IV have demanded holding of immediate sanitization drive in the camp in view of the increasing COVID Pandemic cases. In a statement issued through Shadi Lal Pandita they have made an appeal to relief authorities to take immediate steps in launching of a sanitization drive in the area so that the people will heave a sigh of relief. The camp inmates also expressed concern over the non availability of medicines in the camp dispensary and demand- ed that the staff be asked to be present during night hours also. Besides, they demanded renovation of community centers which are in dilapidated condition and installation of benches in the pub- lic park. The camp inmates also demanded that the Ashram be compensated for the trees which were cut in its premises. Woman dies in accident Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: A woman died in accident near Bawe Talab area here today. As per police sources, a woman was seriously injured when the scooty she was riding was hit by rashly and negligent- ly driven car near Bawe Talab here. The woman was immediate- ly rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, where doctors declared her as brought dead. The deceased was identified as Heena Sharma, daughter of Pyare Lal, a resident of Muthi Maira Jourian. After completing medical and legal formalities, the body of the deceased will be handed over to legal heirs. A case under FIR Number 79/2021 under relevant Sections has been registered at Police Station Kanachack and driver of the car identified as Khalid Mehmood, son of Khadim Hussain of Buffliaz, Taradawali Tehsil Surankote District Poonch. Further investigation into the case is going on. Speaking on the event, the DC Reasi said that the first instal- ment of Rs 1236000 has been dispersed to nearly 618 beneficiaries through bank invoice. Bail denied to 2 booked under POCSO Act Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua Jaffer Hussain Beigh today rejected the bail applications of Devinder Singh and Vinod Kumar, who were booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by Police Station Billawar. After hearing both the sides, the court observed, "Section 3 of POCSO Act deals with penetrative sexual assault and is punishable under Section 4 of the Act for which the accused are involved along with Section 17 of POCSO Act and unless contrary is proved by the accused it is presumed that the accused has committed the offences which have been established against them accused during the course of investigation". "The investigation is still in progress", the Court said while rejecting the bail applications. MP resident found hanging Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: A Madhya Pradesh resident was found hang- ing in his rental room near Krishna Colony in Akhnoor. As per police sources, a man identified as Davendra, son of Ache Lal, a resident of Isha Nagar, Chattarpur, Madhya Pradesh was found hanging in his rented room near Krishna Colony in Akhnoor. The body of the deceased has been shifted to mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for autopsy. Three drug peddlers arrested with cannabis, poppy straw Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 31: Padyarna and Ramsoo Police arrested three drug peddlers along with cannabis and poppy straw. According to SSP Kishtwar Shafqat Hussain Batt, a team from Police Post Padyarna led by SI Qasim laid a special checking point and intercepted a Mahindra Scorpio car bearing registration number JK02CH-7821. "During checking, police team recovered 40 grams cannabis from the possession of the two persons travelling in the car and arrested them", SSP said, adding that the arrested persons were identified as Imran Ahmed, son of Ghulam Nabi Dhobi of Lower Malipath and Imtiyaz Ahmed, son of Ghulam Rasool, a resident of Shaheedi Mohalla District Kishtwar. A case under FIR Number 120/2021 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and inves- tigation started, SSP added. Meanwhile, a team from Police Station Ramsoo led by ASI Javid Iqbal during checking intercepted a Xylo car bearing registration num- ber HR55S-3905. During checking, police team recovered 23 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was identified as Gurdeep Singh, son of Haryal Singh Rajput, a resident of Mahu, District Jalandhar Punjab. During preliminary question- ing, the driver confessed that he was illegally transporting the poppy straw from Kashmir to Jammu. A case under FIR Number 59/2021 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Ramsoo and investigation started. Traffic blocked as a portion of approach road to Asso Bridge sinks in Bani area on Monday. — Excelsior/Pardeep Approach road sinks, traffic suspended Excelsior Correspondent KATHUA, May 31: The traf- fic was suspended and long queues of vehicles were seen on the Bani-Sarthal- Bhaderwah road after the approach road connect- ing to Asso bridge on Sewa river got damaged due heavy rainfall in Bani this evening. The local peo- ple noticed the washing away of a big portion of road connected to Asso bridge just four kms from Bani due to heavy rainfall and flash floods and they immediately informed the Bani administration. After getting the information SDM Bani, Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Tehsildar Bani, Shiv Kumar and SHO Bani rushed to bridge site and took safety meas- ures. They found that the bridge across Sewa nallah at Asso on Bani Bhaderwah road about four km from Bani town had sunk and damaged due to heavy rainfall and loaded vehicles passing through this bridge. The Bani administration immediately suspended the traffic on bridge and stone blockage was raised at the entry of the bridge. The Border Road Organization (BRO) was also informed to immediately take necessary steps to restore the bridge for public movement. The local people with their luggage and family member start- ed movement on foot to reach their destinations. A big popula- tion on Bani-Sarthal and Bhaderwah road was badly affect- ed due to closer of bridge. As it will takes few days to make alter- native way out to restore the traf- fic on road. Addressing a zoom meeting of party activists today on the comple- tion of seven years of Modi Government in office, he said dur- ing the seven years of Narendra Modi in office the world has wit- nessed the historical decisions and bold steps taken by him in the larg- er national interests. He said the people of J&K have a reason of feeling more jubilant and joyful for the path braking and landmark constitutional decisions and political accomplishment by the Modi Government. During the drive, every nook and corner of the areas falling within the juris- diction of JMC shall be covered under the overall supervision of Dr Sanjogita Soodan, Health Officer, JMC. Thorough cleaning/desilting of the lanes/drains in all the areas was done today. Besides, sprinkling of lime was also done to beat the odour and foul smell. The farewell meeting was attended by more than 70 Principals from different Government colleges of Jammu Division. The speakers gave a brief account of the more than 35 years of glorious services ren- dered by Prof Peerzada. All the participants wished him a happy and healthy post superannuation life. Jagdish Singh Bali, who retired today as AEE from PDD Department, was given a w a r m farewell by Executive Engineer, TLMD-III Udhampur, JKPTCI, Power Development Department (PDD). During his service of 31 years, Bali served at various places including NHPC Limited, Uri project and JKPDC Grid sta- tions of Janipur, Canal and Pounichak. All his colleagues wished him a happy and prosper- ous retired life. A warm farewell was accord- ed to Naib- Tehsildar, Chanderkot, Saifullah Shah, who retired today after attain- ing superan- nuation. He served the Revenue Department for more than 35 years. Retirees accorded warm send off Deliver sports projects complete in all respects to public: Advisor Khan Man dies of lightning at Latti Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, May 31: A vil- lager died because of lightning in Latti area of district Udhampur, here today. The deceased was identified as Sansar Chand (50), son of Farnghu, resident of Latti. He was moving near Koi Nallah while going to his home in the evening around 5.30 pm when the tragedy struck. Amidst thundershower, he was hit by a strong beam of light from the sky and reportedly died on the spot. SAMBA, May 31: Due toheavy rainfall and thunderstormin the afternoon in Samba area, atruck bearing RegistrationNumber, JK 08 K-6007 over-turned in the middle of theHighway near Main Chowk ofthe town here, today after thedriver lost control over the vehi-cle.

The accident took place nearthe Main Chowk on Jammu -Pathankot National Highway.The truck was loaded withbananas and was on way fromKathua towards Jammu. Butafter reaching Samba, the driversuddenly lost his balance due toheavy rains and thunderstormand the vehicle turned turtle.
