PREPARING FOR NEXT SUNDAY: Beloved of the Master

Sadly, it may take a tragedy to remind us that we belong to God. We fill our lives with ac-tivities. We rely on our own strength. We depend on other people. We forget sometimes the God who made us, who loves us, and who will one day call us home. When life is going well, we think of ourselves as our own masters. We have freedoms and choices. We make decisions about our families, our work, and our play.

But every so often, we discover we are not the masters. We do not have complete control over our health. We cannot determine what another driver will do. We cannot stop ene-mies of the state from acting irrationally and irreverently. We cannot control everything. St. Paul tells the Romans, “None of us lives for oneself, and no one dies for oneself. … whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.” Sometimes this does not sink in until a tragedy touches our lives. When we suddenly real-ize we are not in control, we wake up to our dependence on God. God governs creation and redemption and all that lies in the middle. Although we are not masters, we are not slaves either. We are the beloved of God. God does everything for us in love, and all that we do in life is in response to the love we receive. Yes, we live. Yes, we shall die. Yes, we belong to God.

PREPARING FOR NEXT SUNDAY:

Letting Go of Anger

The oddest thing about being angry is that it feels good. Anger takes our opinions, our feelings, and our actions and unites them in one interrelationship. When we get good and angry at somebody, it feels so good that it is hard to change. Anger locks us up. It makes us afraid to let go. The longer we hold the anger the harder it is ever to change. How else can we explain the comment by Sirach: “Wrath and anger are hateful things, yet the sinner hugs them tight”? When you forgive someone, you are the one who becomes free. When you with-hold forgiveness, you hurt yourself, not just the other. Often the person against whom we hold the anger pays little atten-tion to our feelings. But the feelings re-main strong within us, eating away at our ability to find peace. Granting forgiveness does not have to mean approving of what an offender did. It does not mean you have to be best friends. It just means letting go of the hate. If you quit letting the offender con-trol your feelings, you can regain some peace and enjoy the mercy of God. Who have you not forgiven? Why? By remaining angry, are you helping anyone?

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT FCC:

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2021: FACEBOOK UPDATES: Please continue to refer to our parish Facebook page for important information concerning: mass intentions, direct transfer donations, and our religious educa-tion program. It is your best source for up-to-date information.

ABOUT MASS In an effort to allow more people access to Mass, we are now offering ticket-ed masses on Sunday, Wednesday evening and special feast days. You can access the FCC Facebook page to log on to Eventbrite to book your ticket. The number of attendees is lim-ited to 24. These masses will also be livestreamed on our YouTube channel. Please follow the guidelines for entrance into the church, participation in mass, and safe practices during mass. Please adhere to the social distancing guidelines.

AVAILABILITY OF PRIESTS: With the situation around the outbreak of the COVID – 19 and the measures taken by Tokyo diocese not have masses, the priests at the Chapel Center are sorry about constraints faced by our parishioners. We would like our parishioners to know that while these measures are taken to protect our elderly and young parishioners, Priests are available to any parishioner who would need a priest for confessions or spiritual direc-tion.

MASS INTENTIONS: If you are offering a mass intention for a loved-one. Please be sure to email Lessie at [email protected] to insure that your intention is logged into our calen-dar. Even if you give your intention envelope to the receptionist, be sure to notify Lessie. All intentions should be paid for before the date of the mass intention to avoid double-bookings.

PRAY FOR PEOPLE INFECTED: Please continue to pray for people all over the world who have been affected by the spread of infection that they may be healed. Also pray for scien-tists, doctors, healthcare staff and the government so that they may work collectively and guided by the Holy Spirit to bring healing to others and a solution to end this disease.

MEAL PRAYERS

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the

Lord, my Spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” Fa-ther, as we share this meal, make us aware that we are called to proclaim your greatness. We ask

this through Christ our Lord.

Father, all praise and all glory is yours. You

gave Mary, the virgin Mother of your Son, to the Church as a model of virtue and a living example of faith. As this meal on her feast comes to an end, may we give You thanks by living Mary’s faith in her Son. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY

WALK LIGHTLY

Each leaf, each petal, each grain, each person sings your praises, Creator God.

Each creature on the earth, all the mountains and great seas show your glory,

Spirit of love. And yet the hand of greed has patented and plun-

dered your splendour, has taken and not shared your gift,

has lived as owner of the earth, not guest. And so the ice is cracked, the rivers dry,

the valleys flooded and the snow caps melt.

Gentle God, show us how to step gently, how to live simply, how to walk lightly

with respect and love for all that you have made.

Amen. - Linda Jones/CAFOD, UK

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2021: This year we have decided to offer our RE program online due to the corona vi-rus through online classes and our website. For students receiving sacraments, there will be one online class for 2nd graders and 3rd graders who will be receiving the sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion next year, and another class for older students who are receiving only Confirmation next year. All second-grade students are eligible for Confir-mation and First Communion. We do not administer First Communion on-ly. There will be a parents’ meeting on September 6 via Zoom. Please see our Facebook page for logon information. Online classes will start on September 13. For all our other students there will be a lectionary-based program located on this website. Each week a teacher will post a video explaining the gospel reading for that week. Then, there will be discussion questions and links to activities for parents and students to do together. This is a good chance for parents to explore the Gospels on their own and then share their thoughts and feelings with their children. The activities range from simple writing exercises to arts and crafts which can be done easily at home. If your child is receiving sacraments and needs to participate in an online class, you will need to register your child for religious education. ONLY children receiv-ing sacraments will be accepted into online classes. You can register them in 2 ways: If your child was registered in our RE program last year, then please send their name, grade in school, age/date of birth, and which sacraments they will be re-ceiving to Lessie at [email protected] If you are new to our program, then please fill out a religious education registra-tion form. You may print a copy from the picture below or obtain one from the reception desk.
