The RAWRing Wave: D20/32 Newsletter | Page 1 Hello Division 20 Tsunamis and D32 Dinosaurs! Greetings from my house where today [October 15, 2012] marks the 6th month serving you as your Lt. Governor! That is unBEElievable! I am so proud of all of you over what you have done in these past six months, and for all the great relationships that have been started. I am happy to say this division consists, not only of acquaintances, but of very good, close friends. There are some things that I still want to do for you before the bittersweet ending of my retirement at District Convention in March: 1. Get more people to come to Division Council Meetings 2. Do a division-wide fundraiser 3. Hold one division social 4. Develop more division unity I hope at this point in time you have trusted me as both your friend and your Lt. Governor. So, if you ever feel stressed, need to vent, or need help with your club work, don't hesitate to contact me. Seniors, as you approach the deadline for Senior Apps, don't overstress over your Key Club work. This is how I feel you should view things: 1. Family/friends 2. School. 3. Key Club 4. Infinity, (anything else you value). Remember that we have a Division Council Meeting on November 17th at the Windsor Grange Hall. This will be a DCM that is a joint one with our Kiwanis. This is a rare opportunity we have, so work with your Kiwanis in going, since they will be attending their DCM. One more important thing before I leave you; my time as Lt. Governor is nearing its end, so it is time to look for someone to lead this wonderful division in the coming year. I know the role of Lt. Governor looks intimidating, but in reality it's something that helped me grow as a person. I am a person who hates clichés, but this fact is true. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can run for Lt. Governor. If you have any questions about the time commitment, have questions, and want to know about other things regarding being an LTG, don't hesitate to contact me. I am more than willing to talk to you, one-on-one. If you are interested in learning more about the role of Lt. Governor, you can travel with me and Mrs. Cummins to Sacramento for a Candidates Training Conference on December 1 st . You will get an in-depth look at the life of a Lt. Governor. Remember, just because you go to CTC doesn't mean you’re officially running, it only means you want to know more about the job. So, Sophomores and Juniors, I hope to see you leading this division next year. Luckily for you, since I am a junior, you will still have me around. So if you were to be elected, you can come to me for any support you might need. Thank you for being such wonderful divisions these past six months. CLUB NEWS

Rancho Cotate

In the month of September, Rancho’s Key Club helped with a local event called the “Mutt Strutt”, which benefits the animal shelter. Over-all, with all the booths there, $14,000 was raised for the cause. Our Kiwanis had a booth, which sold hot dogs and ice cream. We gave $100 to the animal shelter and the extra money that Rancho’s Key Club raised was given to the PTP cause at Fall Rally. This was so successful that we’ve been invited to help at other functions along with our Kiwanis Club.

Cloverdale

We are always referring to the “Kiwanis Family”. We know this means Kiwanis & Key Club, but the Kiwanis Family also includes many other branches for other ages & groups. One of these branches is K-Kids. K-Kids is a club similar to Key Club, but for grade school age children. The Key Club and Kiwanis Club of Cloverdale are thrilled to announce that we will be starting a K-Kids Club at our local Washington Elementary School. K-Kids, like Key Club, is student-led, and provides wonderful service to the community, as well as to the members. We love Key Club and Kiwanis, and are looking forward to sharing that love with the 5th and 6th grade youth in our community. Since, we already have a 7th & 8th grade Builders Club, this means that the Kiwanis Family in Cloverdale will now allow someone to start their Kiwanis life from the age of 10 years……. and continue until who knows how long!

Piner On October 5th, 11 members from Piner High School's Key Club went out in the evening to volunteer for Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Cancer Society. We arrived at downtown Santa Rosa at 4:30, and started with prepping for the walk. Some of our volunteers supervised children in the 'Fun Zone', some supervised the memory wall that allowed those with lost loved ones to write a message, and some were in 'Advocacy', where volunteers walked around and signed walkers up for the e-mail list. As the night progressed, we switched gears and prepared for the walk. Red, gold, and white balloons were lit up everywhere; teams were wearing their special colors and holding their posters of dedication. Some volunteers went further down the road to hand out candy to the walkers, and some volunteers stayed at the finish, ready to cheer those who completed the “race”. When it came to an end, we all gathered around to clean up the chairs, tables and more, take pictures, and dance to a live band performance. When we had finished our work late, we all went to the candy shop to get some much needed frozen yogurt for a long night's work!

October DCM “Doctor Dolls”

During our October DCM,

our division spent some

time making “Doctor

Dolls”. This is a Children’s

Miracle Network

project. The dolls are

given to a children’s

hospital to be used to help

explain medical procedures

to patients who are about

to undergo something

stressful. The dolls can be

drawn on, and used to

help curb the fear a child

might have in advance of

an event like

surgery. Then, the

children can decorate the

dolls to look like

themselves, and use them

like a badge of courage to

show to others what

happened to them.

SURFING THE MILLONS

WAVES OF SERVICE AT

Fall

Rally

Fall Rally North was on October 27th, 2012. FRN was an

amazing experience filled with Key Club divisional spirit, meeting new

people, and most importantly, fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma

Program. It was a great way to meet and spend some time with people

from our division. We D32 Dinos definitely showed our Dino spirit

with our purple and yellow gear, loud cheers, and support for our

LTG, as he rocked the stage to get higher bids. At the rally, Division

32 was also able to bid money on a couple of different Lieutenant

Governors. The money that was used to bid on them, goes toward the

Pediatric Trauma Program cause. Overall, Fall Rally was a great

experience, which definitely rewarded Key Clubs throughout our

District for their hard work fundraising for PTP.
