BIG NEWS FROM YOUR LTGDivisions 20 and 32,

Hello everyone! I will be serving you as the newly appointed 2014-15 LTG, taking over for the rest of the term in place of Dallas Phillips. Although it is a sudden change, I will do my best to serve our region to the fullest.

Although we are a very geographically challenged region — and divisions — I hope that this year we can change that and have better attendance in our activities. I hope to have record-breaking attendance at the Region Training Conference, as well as at Division Council Meetings and many of our service projects. Don’t forget our fundraiser for the Pediatric Trauma Program, the Awake-A-Thon. We’re also scheduled to work at the Redwood Empire Food Bank on a number of Saturdays.

I hope to get to know you all very well, and to help you in any way possible during the following months of my term.

FORT BRAGG BEACH CLEAN-UP

Overall, the annual Beach Clean-Up at Fort Bragg had a pretty good attendance (considering the distance most Key Clubbers had to drive) and was a fun, successful event. Although the car ride was long and tiring, the weather was nice and it was a great day to be out on the beach with other Key Clubbers. We cleaned up the litter strewn across the beach for a couple hours until we were satisfied with the result, and then it was time for lunch. We had a barbecue lunch, provided by the Fort Bragg Key Club. This was a nice chance to bond and chat with other Key Clubbers with common interests. Afterwards, we had our monthly Division Council Meeting that consisted of a discussion of upcoming events, important dates, and planning for the new school year. 

After the DCM we decided to have a sand castle competition to end the day. Much effort was put in by all teams, and finally Fort Bragg won!

It was overall a very fun and effective day of work. It was really nice to see both familiar and new faces, and to bring together opposite ends of the division for a common goal: service!

HOWARTH PARK CLEAN-UP AND PICNIC

This summer, for the first time, 28 Kiwanis and Key Club members gathered at Santa Rosa’s Howarth Park early on a Saturday morning. What was their goal? To clean the park, to form an important bond between Kiwanis and Key Club members, and to inform both parties about upcoming service projects. And let’s just say, the project was a smash hit! At the start of the day, both clubs spent an hour and a half picking up bottle caps, gum wrappers, cigarette butts, and other trash around the expansive park area. The adamant workers then put down their trash bags and picked up their cell phones...for a division bonding Selfie Scavenger hunt! Amazingly, this was a huge stepping stone in bringing together Kiwanis and Key Club, as they all ran around the park grounds frantic and excited. Afterwards, they settled down for a potluck and a Division Council Meeting to update all the members on upcoming events. Finally, a donation drawing was held to auction off gift baskets (provided by Kiwanis) and fundraise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program. It really turned out to be an incredibly productive event, that we will surely continue to hold in future years!

Hello everyone!

Jessica Barbosa and I have come up with some stellar plans for the division! We have been put in charge for a division-wide Eliminate Project push. Our main goals are to get people excited about the Eliminate Project while educating as many as possible. We want all of the clubs in Region 15 to know what Eliminate is all about! We’re planning on a reward system for clubs who reach certain monetary goals in addition to publishing a special Eliminate Newsletter once every two weeks recognizing what the clubs in our Region are doing for the cause.

We’re really hoping that we get clubs to do a One Dollar for Life (ODFL) campaign as well. What we really want to see is a chairperson from EACH CLUB that plans to spearhead Eliminate Project efforts. Now, this is a big commitment, but they won’t be alone in their efforts. We hope to have these spots filled by every club by October 11th. In order to make all of this happen, Jessica and I will be making weekly contact with Key Clubs and their sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs. It’s a large task at hand, but we feel that our plan of action will lead to success!

As many of you know, every October CNH Key Clubs from near and far flock to Six Flags in Vallejo for an event called Fall Rally North. This is a huge gathering of Key Clubbers, centered around gaining enthusiasm for service and progression towards a common district-wide goal. Also, at Fall Rally North, clubs bring all of the money they’ve been fundraising for the Pediatric Trauma Program (PTP) and donate it at one time together. This is a really big deal for Key Club, and we’ve made immense contributions to PTP in the past years.
