Much More Than A Hospital

Dear friends,

Maybe you hadn´t noticed – although the Diospi Suyana hospital is thriving, the word “hospital“ has actually disappeared from the logo at the top of the page. This is to reflect the reality that Diospi Suyana now con-sists of several important fields of ministry. First we built the hospital with the dental

Everybody reads SOMOS – from the Government Minister to the girl at the hairdresser´s. Peru´s most po-pular weekly made Diospi Suyana known throughout the country with a report in 2006 and now, se-ven years on, reporter Gabriela Ma-chuca and photographer Lucero del Castillo spent a day at the hospital in preparation for a second report for SOMOS. Eleven Members of Staff Ex tend their Stay

An Enchanting Voice

Gynecologist Dr. Kathari-na Leeb (left) and dentist Dr. Marlen Luckow (right) are at this time in langu-age school preparing for service. ● Drs. Brady and their children Anna, Kon-stantin and Salome left Curahuasi at the end of January. The urologist and pediatrician had been pillars of the hospital since the begin-ning and as associate director Dr. David Brady had borne great responsibility. We extend our

heartfelt thanks to the family for their exemplary service.

Children from Curahuasi

No doubt one of the best items in the news-letter – eleven of our long-term members of staff want to extend their time of service by years. This illustrious group includes gyneco-logist Dr. Jens Haßfeld and his wife Damaris, nurse Claudia Nickel, radiographer Alexandra Kopp and teacher Lilli Warkentin, Marion Hof-mann from administration, computer specia-list Dominik Hüttner, technician Markus Rolli and his wife, teacher Julianna.

The three buildings with the 18 classrooms have their roofs on and the construction crew under Udo Klemenz is currently con-centrating on the science center and admi-nistration wing. When the dry season begins in April, the crew will pick up the tempo as there is so much still to be done before inau-guration in March 2014. The collection cam-paign on the “StayFriends“ website before Christmas raised $33,000 as over 16 million candles were lit across Europe for Diospi Su-yana.

Speaking Tour of Paraguay

The authorities were unwilling to allow a consi-derable quantity of donated supplies for our den-tal lab into the country due to allegedly missing use-by dates, jeopardizing almost $40,000 worth of new supplies. Two newspapers carried reports

on the blockade. The Panamerica TV station ran the story and the German embassy intervened, but it was the prayers and 2,600 emails from friends in 21 countries asking

Peru´s Minister of Health to release the con-tainer from Customs that brought the break- through and the supplies were allowed in.

From 16th to 21st February Dr. Klaus John spoke about the work of Diospi Suyana at several locations throughout Paraguay, in-cluding three German colonies in the Chaco and in Spanish-speaking congregations as well as giving TV and radio interviews.

The Fight for Container No. 32

When Damaris Hua-huachampi sings, many a hand furtively wipes away a tear. Her voice fills the audito-rium and every heart. The young woman from Cusco struggled for many years with the fact that her biological parents did not want her. Her adoptive parents taught her of the love of God that is there for every-one and so it is no surprise that Damaris sings of God´s faithfulness in Jesus Christ in all her songs. For her, faith is not a philo-sophy but her life´s foundation
