    Dear Key Clubbers,

Fall is coming, which means colder weather, thicker scarves, and pretty leaves. But moreimportantly, it means countless fall festivals to serveat and Trick or Treat for UNICEF. This year, we wantto raise more money than ever before for ELIMINATEand the adorable Trick or Treat boxes are a greatway to do that! $5 equals one physical hour. Think about how many lives we are changing with thismoney! Its truly inspirational and wonderful thework we do. In just two days, I raised over $20 for ELIMINATE. I am making a greater change than Iever thought I could. I challenge all of yall to raiseas much money as you can to save mothers andtheir babies. What could go to a greater cause? For the month of October, we have many awesomeevents for members to participate in! This includesthe Adam Elementary Festival, Saint Maximilian FallFestival, Color Fest, Houston Italian Festival, and

much more! As a freshman, I loved serving at thefall festivals at the elementary schools because itcreated such a great interaction with thecommunity. October is a great month for thankingthe community by giving by through volunteering.

    Yours in Service,

    FALL into Service with Articles!

Approximately two weeks ago, I volunteered atmy first event as a freshman, Shop Til You Drop. Iabsolutely fell in love with volunteering after participatingin this event. I found out about so many different aspectsand cultures in our community and it was a great to beable to help out the vendors who had prepared and put inso much hard work. It was a wonderful event because themajority of the shops are local and a lot of themerchandise and products were handmade. Also, aportion of the products were customized for thecustomers and I think this was another great aspect of thisevent. There were many things there that are usually hardto find elsewhere. This really shows a large sense of

community and our community members comingtogether. Another great thing about this event was thatproceeds benefitted the Cy-Fair Womens Club ScholarshipFund and many other local Houston charities. Not onlythat, I also met a lot of people and made new friends, including people from other high schools.

At Shop Til You Drop, I saw and helped a lot ofvendors who had handmade home dcor and jewelrypieces. You could definitely tell that they had spent a lot oftime, effort and passion into creating their merchandise. The hard work that these vendors had dedicated to theirbusiness and products is incredible, so I was really glad to

be able to help them out. I volunteered the afternoon shift,so the other volunteers and I spent a large chunk of ourtime there helping take apart the shops. We helped thevendors pack up their products, take down their shopgrids (for hanging merchandise) and take down shelves, tables, signs, etc. Then, we carried out, or pushed out on acart, all of the merchandise and setup outside to the BerryCenter curb and parking lot. There, we helped vendorsstock their belongings into their cars. It was great to helpthem out so they were able to relax a little after a long dayof working. After all the vendors had their merchandisepacked away in their vehicles, the volunteers and I set outto clean up the Berry Center. We removed all thesectioning tape off of the ground, and picked up a lot ofexcess trash. Overall, the volunteers spent the majority oftheir time cleaning up the event and Berry Center entirelybefore signing out.

This was the very first Key Club event Ive been toand I thoroughly enjoyed it. I even surprised myself withhow much fun I had at Shop Til You Drop. Im excited tovolunteer at a lot of events this year and I cannot wait forthe next annual Shop Til You Drop!

Volunteer Til You Drop!By Winnie Lu, Freshman Rep

As a new member of Key Club, I was amazed to findout what Key club is actually about. All I knew was thatmembers volunteered. But for what? Isnt Key Club justlike any club in school? I asked to myself. The answer is

no.I was surprised to find out to find out about the

variety of volunteer works. From libraries to internationalcampaigns, the amount you can do is grand. Just doing tinyprojects can impact the world in such a positive light. I amlooking forward to do the Eliminate Project. Billons ofpeople have so little resources, and it only takes about a$1.50 for vaccinations. My lunch cost more than a babys

life. Another thing I didnt know about Key Club is itsprocedures. When I first heard about Key Club Hours, Iwas really overwhelmed. It sounded very intimidating, andI was kind of discouraged. But with the encouragement offriends, I joined and am so glad I did. I think, to attractmore members, Key Club officers should explain it insimple terms and explain that it isnt that bad in terms ofrequirements to be a member. Only after the secondmeeting did I understand and relaxed a little.

As a new officer, I am looking forward to learningnew things and teaching new things to fellow officers. Not

only does Key Club enhance your work ethics, itstrengthens your leadership skills. It allows students totake charge and change their community. Students cancome up with new ideas and explore different ways tofulfill the plan whatever it may be. When you are a leader, you must learn to work with fellow classmates. That maybe difficult for many people, because it requires you tocompromise even though you may not like it. And you mayhave to find the courage to speak up when you dont agreeabout something. I will, through my experiences, find theequilibrium between those two and advice with othersbefore I complete an action.

So as a new member and officer, I am glad to be apart of an organization that helps the lives of so manypeople around the world. I am waiting for new friendshipsto spurt from this club and develop into a long lastingrelationship past the club and high school. I appreciateopportunity of being part of the contribution to mycommunity.

Governors Project Spotlight Have you ever wanted to take a stand against something soprevalent in schools that it affects one in seven studentsevery year? Well, now you have your chance! This year, thegovernors project theme is anti-bullying, and we can do ourpart by wearing a blue shirt this Monday, October 7. I knowits also Hawaiian day, BUT if you wear a blue shirt and someleis and sandals, you can be stylish AND help bring awarenessabout bullying and its effects on high schoolers.

Bullying is a serious issue, and together, we can all raiseawareness and make bullying so pass.
