Cyberbullies Are Everywhere
BY: KYLE FRITZ
The Ethical Questions of Cyberbullying
Should people be able to say anything to whomever they want?
How far is too far? Do cyberbullies need to be punished?
The Facts
People want to share their lives with each other Nobody is sure if threats are true No one likes being harassed
What Needs to be Done to Minimize Cyberbullying
Social platforms need an easy to use block button Shouldn’t be a punishment for freedom of speech But, everyone has the inherent right not to be
harassed
The Problem Right Now
Non-technical users have a more difficult time blocking cyberbullies
Block button is hidden on platforms like Facebook
A New Law
Require huge social platforms like Facebook/Twitter to have a large block button
in plain sight Explain what it does in non-technical terms
Pros
Anyone can block whoever at their discretion Overall, people would be more polite so that
others won’t block them No one is punished for freedom of speech
Cons
People could accidentally block someone To Solve: Notification after you click block asking if
you’re sure
Cons Continued
Bullies have ability to make more accounts To Solve: require phone verification If a number is verified, that number cannot be
verified by a different account
Goodness/Harm Ratio
Users decide who they converse with Lives are tougher for cyberbullies causing
problems People w/o intent to harass aren’t punished, just
blocked from another user Everyone can draw their own line
