Working Group. Committee of 6 faculty members convened to explore and propose supplemental

assessments of teaching. The products of this working group included a narrative summary, draft

language for the Faculty Handbook, self‐evaluation guidance and examples, and peer observation

guidance and examples. Further, the members of the working group piloted these procedures in their

own courses in Fall 2015. We recommended that the current perspective of largely summative

assessment (e.g., student evaluations and department head evaluation) be replaced by a perspective

of formative assessment, guided by multiple mechanisms of information‐generation and overall

reflection on the value we place on continuous improvement, June 2014.
