Objective & Mission Statement

“I enjoy supporting and working with vulnerable people and have done so for the past 20 years. Mainly whilst facilitating drug and alcohol issue based groups, working with families and young people and those who are socially

excluded. Teaching and helping people to deal with feelings & emotions”.

During the period 2002 – 2004 my colleague and I developed our own training & skills programme called, The Power of Example. This 21st Century approach deals with youths who have behavioural problems, people who suffer from addictions

and mental health issues, anti-social behaviour, parenting skills and unhealthy relationships. Our approach is recommended and supported by many organisations including Jordanhill University, South Lanarkshire College, Castle Craig

Hospital, The chartered institute of housing for Scotland & Turning point .

My colleague, Lorraine Buchanan, and I have written and had published our own book called “The Power of Example” based on our own life experiences. Our approach and book has given us our greatest achievement so far, being asked to

be part of the Diploma course at Jordanhill University.

Employment History 2000 - Present.

South Lanarkshire College.Principe responsibilities: Worked with 16 to 18 years & 18 to 25 year age groups. Counselled on getting back to work - New Deal clients. Training and group work on drugs and alcohol education:

confidence and motivation, assertiveness, anti – social behaviour and responsibility. Ongoing.

West Dunbartonshire Council.Principle responsibilities: Group work with socially excluded young people and individual counselling.

Jordanhill University.Principle responsibilities: Lectures to students (person Centred) on Diploma Course, based on own theory called The Power of Example.

East Dunbartonshire Council.Principle responsibilities: Community Education; counselling skills training for voluntary organisations.

Chartered Institute of Housing for Scotland.Principle responsibilities: All Drug & Alcohol training and conferences for institute..

North & South Lanarkshire Council - Careers Scotland.Consultant - PartiSIPate Pilot Project. Principle responibilities: Consultant for 6 projects throughout Lanarkshire, working with socially excluded individuals age 15 to 18. Group work, 1-1 counselling & family therapy and training.

Kirkmuirhill Community – Lanarkshire.Principle responsibilities: Talks and workshops to parents on addictions and life skills.

SWAN - Priesthill.Principle responsibilities: Group work on life skills with people from the community.

Self Employed Consultancy WorkConsultant Counsellor / Group Work / Training / Lectures & Interactive Talks / Seminars & Meditation.

'Just Like Us', Drop in Centre, Milton Glasgow. Current & Ongoing.http://www.justlikeus.co.ukCo - Founder. Drop in centre, working with people from North Glasgow communities, working with people with addictions and

mental health problems and learning difficulties. Group work, 1-1 support, arts and crafts, music and training.

Scottish Network of Family Support Groups. 1:1 counselling, talks and seminars, group work. Ongoing.

Talks to young people on territorialism and anti – social behaviours.

South Lanarkshire Council. Training for recovered addicts - Getting back to work.

Scottish Enterprise. Consultancy and training with various training organisations including Clydebank College.

Renfrewshire Council. Training on Anti - Social Behaviour for all housing staff.

Right Track Training. Training for all staff members on; Negotiation, conflict & resolution. Group work with young people dealing with

behaviours, confidence & motivation.

Falkirk Council. R.E.A.P Pilot Project; working with 14 yr olds with severe behavioural problems, group work & individual counselling.

Project was very successful.

Employment Enterprise, (Focus in Motherwell). Group work & talks with ex-offenders, addicts and long termed unemployed.

Forward Training. (5 projects) - Group work & talks with individuals age 16 to 18 years, dealing with behaviours & attitudes.

Ruchill youth drop in centre; Auchinairn Community Centre - youth work; Barnardos Possilpark; Befriending; Fairbridge Possilpark; Working with young people at risk; Castle Craig Rehabilitation Clinic - sharing & supporting; Alive & Kicking for the elderly - mini bus driver; St Vincent de Paul - helping & supporting the sick & terminally ill and driving mini bus; Lennox Castle Hospital - people with severe learning disabilities; Realise community care project for methadone users, Apex Scotland - working with offenders, ex-offenders and people at risk; Prospects Training Springburn - Senior Counsellor & Tutor with young people at risk. Assistant to chaplain at Stobhill hospital.
